Grade 3 Science Lesson Plan
Quarter: 1
Content: Science in Our Daily Life
Time Duration: 45 minutes
I. Content Standards
Learners understand that science is important in understanding
how the natural world works.
II. Learning Competency
The learner identifies objects, activities, or natural events
observed in their local environment that can be explained by science.
III. Performance Standard
By the end of the quarter, learners:
Demonstrate simple science processes to explore common local
materials, their physical properties, and uses.
Participate in guided science activities, including simple
measurements using units such as millimeters, centimeters, and
meters.
Demonstrate safe handling procedures when using equipment
and materials.
IV. Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:
Identify examples of objects and events in daily life that
involve science (e.g., melting ice, plant growth, rain).
Explain in simple terms how science helps us understand and
use these things.
Apply knowledge by proposing how recyclable materials can be
turned into useful objects.
V. Materials Needed
Pictures or real objects from the environment (e.g., water
bottle, fan, plant, soap, etc.)
Chart paper and markers
Recyclable materials (e.g., plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, old
clothes)
Glue, scissors, tape
Rulers or measuring tapes
VI. Procedure
A. Introduction (Engage - 10 mins)
Ask: "What do you see around you every day? What do you use
at home or in school?"
Show pictures or real objects (e.g., broom, sunlight, plant, fan,
soap).
Ask: "How do you think science helps us with these things?"
Briefly explain: Science helps us understand how things work
and how to use materials safely and wisely.
B. Instruction/Explore (15 mins)
Discuss common local materials (plastic, metal, plant fibers,
paper).
Talk about their physical properties (hard/soft, flexible/rigid,
waterproof, absorbent).
Give examples of how we use them daily (plastic for bottles,
metal for tools).
Ask: “Can we use these again instead of throwing them away?
How?”
C. Guided Practice/Explain (10 mins)
Show simple examples of items made from recycled materials.
In groups, learners brainstorm ideas for a product they could
make using recyclable materials available at home or school.
Groups draw a design or explain their idea.
D. Independent Practice/Elaborate (15 mins)
Learners begin constructing their product using available
recyclable materials.
Emphasize safety when handling scissors and other tools.
Ask students to measure at least one part of their product
using a ruler or measuring tape (in cm or mm).
E. Assessment/Evaluate (5 mins)

VII. Conclusion (Wrap-Up - 5 mins)
Recap: “Today we learned how science helps us understand and
use things around us.”
Ask: “Why is it important to reuse materials?”
Encourage students to share their product ideas with their
families and improve them at home.
VIII. Extension Activity (Optional)
For homework: Ask students to complete or improve their
recycled product at home with family support and bring it to school
for a mini “Recycled Invention Exhibit.”
