Reasons for choosing to study in the UK
I started researching for abroad universities from counties like the UK, the USA, Australia and Canada. Out of all these countries
I found few interesting facts about the UK as a study destination. I found that the UK has a reputation across the globe as a
country of learning and acquire academic excellence. Moreover, I realized in my research that studying with the UK universities
are carefree for international students as the universities here are inspected regularly by the Quality Assurance Agency for
Higher Education (QAA), now this gives me assurance of the excellent standards in teaching and so learning. Furthermore,
‘Teaching Excellence Framework’ is a body which rates the university for their excellence which is again a very assured thing for
a student. The practical approach in the teaching methodology adds learning experience that make real difference in achieving
learning goal for an international student. The best part for me is in my country I’ll have an upper edge in the local market with
having a bachelors’ qualification from a country like the UK.
I compared other countries like the USA and Australia where in I have an opportunity to opt for an undergraduate course which
is Bachelor of Engineering with specialization mechanical engineering. However, the tuition fees are high compared to the UK
universities, moreover, I found that in the USA it is very tough to shortlist the universities in terms of ranking and other
parameters. Also, there is no assurance of the authentication of all the range of universities. In Australia, I found that tuition
fees are very high, and the options are limited in terms of applying to the ranked universities. I did detailed research for Canada
as well, however, I found very disappointing fact that in Canada college offers only diploma and advance diploma courses and
it is highly competitive to get admission into universities due to limited seats for international students. I did not decide to study
further in India itself as I want to have an international qualification which can add a weightage to my profile, knowledge and
overall profile.
Reasons for choosing to study at the University of Wolverhampton:
I am keen to study with University of Wolverhampton for multiple reasons. One of the main reasons to finalize University of
Wolverhampton as I found my choice of program which is Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) Mechanical Engineering and the
university has been awarded four stars in the latest QS Stars international rating system. According to Times Higher Education
ranking it is at ranked 801 in World University Rankings. Moreover, university is one of top 128 in country as per UK University
Rankings 2021 which any of the university has having in India where I can get an admission. The location of the university is very
much interesting wherein I can experience English culture and it is connected with all the major cities of the UK such as
Birmingham 18 mins; Manchester 70 mins; London 98 mins. It offers very low cost of living which is very beneficial for the
international students. University has proven academic excellence more than a century now. Apart from it I viewed many
YouTube videos to understand the experience of study with the university as well as living in the city. I am also having an
opportunity to experience the multicultural environment. There are many testimonials of the student on the university website
which gave me clear picture about my academic journey at University of Wolverhampton. University is multiple campus and
equipped with all the facilities for the students to make the student academic journey smoother and fruitful.
Reasons for choosing this course – BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
This course is an obvious choice for me as I have done Diploma in same discipline. The main aim to pursue bachelor’s degree is
a core requirement of the degree to progress in the career. The course with this university provides a thorough engineering
education which covers all the engineering aspects such as design, engineering mathematics and its application, the core
concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, structural dynamics, materials, and the behavior of fluids. These are the subjects which
I am keen to learn. I have found out that there are other subjects such as principles of control systems, advanced materials and
manufacturing processes including Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM)/ 3D-printing of plastics and metals. Combination of such
subjects I did not find at any other university including the Indian Engineering universities. During the program student will be
have access to use computer facilitated modelling, design, and analysis software to confirm product designs which I found
unique and impressive. The program also allows to carry out laboratory work and develop the upgraded production knowledge
to build unique design. As I progress in a second year and third year subjects become more unique and interesting such as
Materials science and manufacturing, Solid Mechanics, thermodynamics and fluids, aerodynamic design and CFD, machine
design and reliability, structural mechanics, and stress analysis. I am very much eager to involve myself in the projects which are
compulsory as a part of the subjects such as industrial design project, enterprise group innovation project and individual
innovation project. I am confident on the learning outcome of the subjects which would equip me with complete and specialized
skills as an outcome of hard trainings in all aspects of Mechanical Engineering. In the industry there are number of companies
who is not hiring diploma holders as their designation requirement is a bachelor holder. As such, having bachelor’s degree is
very important because it will add qualification as well in-depth learning of Mechanical discipline which ultimately helps me to
become a more knowledgeable and qualified engineer. Having learnt such subject from highly qualified faculties will be an
added advantage for me.
Overall, I will have an advantage to having International bachelor’s degree when it comes to add qualification, learning and to
gain an international exposure. I am sure it will pay off against my investment of time and money.
Future Goal:
My ambition is to make a constructive and commendable contribution to the society at large through knowledge acquired in
my field of specialization. I would like to make my knowledge work to make a difference in life for the common man in India
and generate employment and wealth in society.
As knowledge is something, which always needs to be kept updated, I will be heading to my immediate goal to complete my
bachelor’s degree with flying colors and full of academic learning. I really felt bachelor’s degree is very much important to have
career and designation growth. My main advantage of having international qualification would be that I will have an upper age
in the local industry. Moreover, I will be well versed with latest skills. Cross-culture exposure will help me to make myself more
flexible and adjustable with different types of clients in the industry.
I am really looking forward to work with some brands with having an international bachelor’s degree. Such as L & T, Bombardier,
Fag India Pvt. Ltd., Siemens, ABB etc. These all companies are in my own state- Gujarat. I am even open to work any state within
India if right position and remuneration is offered. I look forward to work for designations like Quality engineer, Executive
Engineer, Senior Engineer, Engineering leader etc. where I can grow tremendously and can help my country to grow. I at least
can expect yearly salary of INR 6 to 8 Lakh with having added qualification and skill which are not very commonly available in
Indian market. Furthermore, India is a developing country where engineering industry is growing speedily, and I am strongly
willing to contribute to the engineering industry in India. As per one of the Article the mechanical and manufacturing industry
in India is likely to be on fourth on the world level by 2020 after Germany, and Japan. Being an Indian, it would be a great
opportunity for me and my career to grow in India than any other country.
I have also read one article where it was mentioned that “Indian Engineering sector has witnessed a remarkable growth over
the last few years driven by increased investments in infrastructure and industrial production. The engineering sector, being
closely associated with the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors, is of strategic importance to India’s economy.” I did further
research in this and found that Government is also making lots of investment to grow the industry. Currently even our prime
minister has given the national goals “Say no to Chinese products’ and ‘Make in India’ to increase our own production and to
support local products. Looking at all the possible growth of Engineering industry I do not see any better option for me than
India to grow my career as I am acquainted with the Indian engineering industry and I have good network here along with my
family support.
With a bright future in a comfort zone back in India, I have very strong and valid point to come back to India is my parents. My
parents have supported all of us in every single step of our life right from the school to career. I know there will be a time in
near future where they at least need a social and moral support from my end as well. Financially there are strong and earning
well, so they might not need any financial support from me, but at the same time money is not everything. As such, I love our
Indian culture, traditions, social system where the extended family is there in good and tough time. I have experience all these
and I want to continue with this. I am satisfied that my career goals and social goals does not contradict which makes my
personal, profession, family, and social life easy with smooth equation.
Although I believe that there is no substitute for hard work and strong knowledge. After, self-realization, I have developed a
keen desire to pursue my graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering in your reputed University, which will provide me an
opportunity to work with most modern and sophisticated equipment and intellectual environment by which I would be able to
realize my dreams of exploring and contributing new vistas in the chosen field.
