Spinning and Weaving Process

The document outlines the spinning and weaving process of cotton, detailing the steps from ginning to weaving. It describes the types of spinning (hand and machine), the various processes involved in transforming cotton fibers into yarn, and the motions used in weaving. Additionally, it covers dyeing and seizing processes that prepare yarn for weaving into fabric.

Introduction: cotton is a naturally extracted plant fiber from the cotton plant cotton is a soft,
floppy, staple fiber widely used to produce cloths.

What is spinning: Spinning is the process in which the fibers are converted into yarn by using
different machine.

Types of spinning: Basically two types of spinning.

1. Hand spinning

2. Machine spinning

1. Hand spinning: In this method fiber is converted into yarn by a hook and this yarn is converted
into fabric by the help of a spinning wheels.

2. Machine spinning: In this method different machine are used to convert the fibers into yarn. In
this machine the material is drifted, twisted and winded up to a suitable package.

Spinning process flowchart

Ginning process: Ginning is a process in which the cotton fibers are separated from the cotton
seeds.

Blow Room: The section where the supplied compressed cotton bale turns into a uniform lap of
particular length by opening, cleaning, blending or mixing.

Generally bale having weight 200-300kg.

Carding: In this process in which micro dust is removing, parallelize the fiber and the then fiber is
converted into sliver with nominal twist.

Combing: If we need coarser yarn then we don’t use combing. If we need fine yarn then we need
coming process. In this process sliver is converted into lap and then lap is fitted into comber
machine. In comber machine short fiber is removed and produced longer fiber
Draw frame: Generally draw frame process is done after carding if we don’t need fine yarn. In
draw frame process sliver is feed than passing through the roller and drawing should be done. In
draw frame mixing and blending is also done.

Roving frame: In roving frame sliver is feed and sliver is converted into roving. Roving having
thickness is less than sliver and length is increased due to drafting.
Ring frame machine: roving feed to ring frame machine again drafting and twisting is done and
after that roving is converted into ring bobbin.

Winding process: To transfer ring bobbin into cone or cheese. This can be conventally used for
weaving process.
Seizing/Dyeing process: The adhesive coating applied is on the warp yarn surface before
weaving process. In dyeing process coloring agent is applied on the surface of the yarn.
Weaving process: In weaving process warp and weft are interlaced with each other at right
angle to form a fabric or cloth. Weaving process should be done on loom.

Motion in Weaving: Basically three type of motion is done in weaving.

 Primary motion
 Secondary motion
 Auxiliary motion

Primary Motion: Primary Motion also having three parts.

 Shedding motion
 Picking motion
 Beat-up motion

Secondary Motion: secondary Motion also having two parts.

 Let off motion

 Take-up motion
Auxiliary Motion : Auxiliary Motion also having three parts.

 Warp stop motion

 Weft stop motion
 Warp protector motion
