*The Art of End Time Preaching: Class Introduction

In this 10-part workshop we will discuss the art of end time preaching.
Before we begin, I want to explain HOW this class came together.
When I first was asked to teach this subject, I never really gave much attention to it.
I had preached many times, but never sat down to think as to the process of the experience.
Nor have I ever had the opportunity to take a homiletic class before.

And so, I was a very hesitant to say yes in teaching a class like this. (felt inadequate)
But by faith I agreed & began to study and prepare.
RESULT?—I have been blessed beyond words can describe!

In preparation, I began reading multiple books, gathering information, learning from the
experts, and doing my own reflection on this subject.

And it has helped me to become more aware and conscience of the…

-Purpose of preaching
-Power of preaching.
-Process of preaching
-Presentation of preaching.
-Possession of preaching.
-Privilege of preaching.

And as a result, I’ve seen personal improvement not just in the content,
But also in the delivery of my preaching. And for that I’m eternally grateful!
I anticipate that YOU TOO will have the same experience!

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course has been prepared for both for the inexperienced introvert & the expert orator!
No one needs to feel out of place in this class.
I promise: Everyone will get a lot out of this course!

HOW MANY HAVE PREACHED A SERMON BEFORE?

HOW MANY HAVE NEVER PREACHED BEFORE?
HOW MANY ARE 16 OR YOUNGER?

You already have an advantage over me.

*I preached my first sermon when I was 16 (just after being converted).
PT: Looking back, I feel like I was the least likely candidate to preach.
I don’t know what my pastor was thinking when he gave me the pulpit on Sabbath morn.

There was so many factors going against me…
§ Didn’t grow up in church so my Bible knowledge was extremely limited.
§ *I did a lot of DRUGS & burnt up a lot of BRAINCELLS
§ I did very poor in school. I wasn’t the most academic.
§ Grew up as only child in broken home with extreme communication dysfunction.
§ Growing up I was extremely shy, self-conscious, timid, & introverted.
§ Socially awkward: Did not have good social/communication skills.
§ Furthermore, ENGLISH is my 2nd LANGUAGE!
§ No one ever sat me down and gave me instructions as to how to do it!

FIRST PUBLIC PRAYER—My voice was literally shaking!

FIRST SERMON—It was TERRIBLE!

Despite all these factors, God CALLED me to preach!

Though I feel unworthy & at times unqualified to preach, I am confident in His calling!
For God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called!
And this same calling is placed on each us in one way or another…

THE CALL

*Jn.15:16—“You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ORDAINED you, that
ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye
shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (This verse is personal to me!)

God chose us before we chose Him!

We have been ordained & arranged,
appointed & anointed,
consecrated & called,
designated & designed,
called & installed

To GO, and bear fruit!

Fruit that doesn’t spoil!
Ordained to success and not failure, victory and not defeat, to win and not lose!
All who have COME are now called to GO!

*“ALL to whom the heavenly inspiration has come are put in trust with the gospel.
All who receive the life of Christ are ORDAINED to work for the salvation of their
fellow men.”—DA 822

You don’t need to wait for ecclesiastical ordination to begin working for God!
Nor do you need a title, position, or a paycheck!

 God can USE YOU exactly where you’re at RIGHT NOW!
Receiving Christ IS you ORDINATION!
Your baptism was your ordination ceremony!

If you have COME, then you are called to GO!

Recipients of the message are automatically enrolled, to be participants in the mission!
The work of God will not be finished from the top down but from the bottom up!
The work will never be finished by adding members.
But rather by multiplying messengers!
This is what TMI is all about!

*JERICO

The OT story of Jericho provides many precious lessons. One of which is this…
It was only when ALL of God’s people shouted that the walls came crumbling down!
When everyone used their VOICE, it was then that the LOUD CRY was heard!
This was the beginning of their conquest of Canaan & entrance to promised land!
I submit that one of the reasons we have not yet conquered the Promise Land,
Is that only the preachers are blowing the trumpet, & many of God’s people are silent!
God wants to use your VOICE to bring the walls of BABYLON down!

But where do you start?

*Act.1:8—“But you shall receive POWER when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be WITNESSES to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to
the end of the earth.”

The principle in this passage is simply this…

Be faithful in the little things & do the duty that lies nearest!
Have a faithful regard for the one soul audience!
Start close and work your way out.

PT: HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY…

§ *My journey in evangelism began the moment I was baptized!
§ Bible studies every day in Public High School.
§ Knock on every door in my community!
§ Made sure all had an opportunity to hear!
As I moved forward & made myself available to God,
He confirmed His call by giving me fruit in my labors & enlarging my territory…
*Since then I’ve had the opportunity to preach over 70 evangelistic meetings.
Countless revivals in almost 40 different countries around the world!

*From the tiny islands of the south pacific
*To the remote Maasai villages of the African plains
*To the secular European cities of France, Germany, & England.
*To the massive convention centers of southeast Asia
*The sports arenas of Papua New Guinea & the *stadiums of Fiji.
*To various University campuses of higher learning,
*Even besides Norwegian campfires under the shining light of the midnight sun.
*In the open fields of Kenya, the *large tents of Ethiopia, *field stages of Micronesia.
*Even upon the sacred stage of the GC session!

I did not pursue these places.

It is God who placed me there.
Sometimes I think: How in the world did I get here?!

*By God’s grace we’ve seen over 1,500 people baptized!

Including many in my own FAMILY!

GOD CAN & WANTS TO USE YOU IN THE SAME WAY!

**“You may say, I am not a minister and therefore cannot preach the truth. You may not be
a minister in the generally accepted sense of the word. You may never be called to stand
in the desk. Nevertheless you CAN be a minister for Christ. If you will watch for the
opportunities that present themselves for speaking a word to this soul and to that, God
will speak through you to win hearts to Him.”—HP 320

This CALL doesn’t necessarily mean that you will stand behind the sacred desk.
But your PULPIT is the person that God places in your path!

God is not limited by our weaknesses nor is He dependent upon our strengths.
ALL HE NEEDS IS A WILLING HEART
Everyone who truly KNOWS JESUS,
Will want to MAKE HIM KNOWN to others!

*1Cor.1:27—“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
& God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.”
§ The weaker the vessel the more glory God gets!
§ If God can use a DONKEY to correct to Balaam, a ROOSTER to rebuke Peter,
and a WHALE to humble Jonah, then surely, He can use an ex DRUGGIE like me!

If He can use me, He can use ANYBODY!

Notice what the Lord wants to make out of us…

*Isa.41:15—"Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou
shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.”

When we place our lives in God’s hands, He will make us a sharp instrument!
He will use us to THRASH the mountains of error and the hills of deceit.
There is no mountain too big that cannot be conquered!

Ok, you say. So God calls me. He can use me.

But what do I need to do? What is my part?

OUR PART: CULTIVATE VOICE

*“Young men and young women, has God placed in your hearts a desire to do service
for Him? Then by all means cultivate the voice to the utmost of your ability so that you can
make plain the precious truth to others.”—CM 70

God wants us to be intentional & deliberate in cultivating our ability to speak!

We want to be sharp instruments in the hands of the heavenly harvester!

What do you think is the BEST WAY TO LEARN how to preach?

Read a manual on preaching, right?

*What is the best way to learn how to SWIM?—Get in the water!

Nothing is more valuable & more affordable than practical experience.
Nothing taught in a classroom can take the place of this!
So where do we get this experience?
From the one soul audience!

But I also encourage you to ask you Pastor for an opportunity to preach.
If he’s a good pastor, he will not only give you an opportunity,
But also provide some guidance & training.

Everything I’ve learned (up to being asked to do this workshop) has been by observation &
experience! NOTHING can take the place of EXPERIENCE!

However, God has given us a wealth of information on this topic that will help us all
become more conscious & intentional in cultivating this gift to the best of our ability!

*Art is an expression of creative skill, craft, technique, & ability.

*The EARTH is the ARTwork of the MASTER DESIGNER.
But how did He create the heavens & the earth?—BY HIS WORD!

*Ps.33:6—"By the WORD of the LORD were the heavens made;

and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”

By the POWER of the SPOKEN word, God created something visible & tangible,
To illustrate, demonstrate, and illuminate that which is invisible & eternal!
And NOW by the means of PREACHING He calls us to do the same!
Especially in the CONTEXT of the final end time message for the last days!

This course was created, in order to break down everyone we need to know about how this
happens practically. There will be a total of 12 presentations including this introduction.

*PART #2—THEOLOGY: The Power Of The Tower

§ We will lay the foundation by discussing the Biblical definition of preaching.
§ What is preaching? What isn’t preaching?
§ We will also explore the power, purpose, and possession of preaching!
§ And WHY God choose preaching as His primary method to reach the lost.

*PART #3—PURPOSE: Foolishness Of Preaching & Wisdom Of God

§ We will explore the wisdom of God in the foolishness of preaching.
§ We will examine some of the challenges & difficulties of preaching.
§ How to overcome the obstacles of human ignorance, sinfulness, comprehension, attention.
§ A study that will show how God reveals His power through weakness!

*PART #4—QUALIFICATIONS: The Make Up Of The Messenger

§ We will discuss WHO should preach?
§ What is the SOURCE of the Preacher’s POWER?
§ 7 essential characteristics & qualities of a proficient preacher.

*PART #5—CONTENT: The Matter Of The Message

§ We will discuss WHAT should we Preach?
§ The content of our communication & the substance of the sermon.
§ We will highlight 8 features that every sermon should be measured by.
§ Foundation, focus, framework, function, flow, friction, filled, finished.

*PART #6—OBJECTIVE: The Message Of The Master
§ Examine the greatest sermon that has ever been heard by the Prince of all preachers!
§ We will sit at the feet of Jesus to listen & dissect His sermon on the mount.
§ Not only what He said, by why He said it in the order & structure that He did.
§ We will learn how to preach like Jesus preached!
§ Anyone want to preach like Jesus?

*PART #7—APPROACH: The Sermon Of The Serpent

§ It was in context of speech that Jesus said, “Be wise as serpents & harmless as doves.”
§ In the sermon of the serpent we will gain insight into the wisdom of tactfulness.
§ A compelling sermon with do 4 sequential things: captivate, convince, convict, convert!

*PART #8—ORGANIZATION: The Managing Of The Material

§ Preaching is the path that Truth travels from mind of God to hearts of men.
§ What happens along this path is very important for the preacher to understand.
§ This presentation will cover HOW to construct a sermon from start to finish.
§ 13 specific steps of gathering & organizing the content for the sermon.

*PART #9—DELIVERY: The Mechanisms Of The Method

§ In preaching, it’s not only about WHAT we say. But HOW we say it.
§ How do we present truth in a captivating way that people will remember?
§ This presentation will cover the TOOLS of creative writing, language, & speech.
§ We will deal with timing, intonation, emphasis, enthusiasm, enunciation, & much more.
§ We will also discuss some effective tools of visual communication.

*PART #10—APPEAL: The Motivation Of The Masses

§ This presentation will deal with what motivates the masses to CHOOSE Christ.
§ We will discuss the science of conviction & the art of the appeal.
§ 14 potent principles that a powerful appeal will have to be effective.

*PART #11—REFLECTION: Memories of the Miracles & Privilege of Preaching

This will be an inspiring presentation where I will share personal experiences that
I’ve had in preaching around the world. True stories of the miracle working
power of God to change the life!

*PART #12—DEMONSTRATION: Great In The Sight Of The Lord

§ This is a SERMON that will hopefully illustrate everything that will be covered.
§ We will look at the first forerunner, John the Baptist.
§ His life is a shadowy TYPE of the final forerunners of the last days.
§ Through his life we will see what makes us “Great in the sight of the Lord”
