Copy, Change Movement Types
In this step, you can
o change the setting of existing movement types
o define new movement types
When you enter a goods movement, you must always enter the movement type. The
movement type has important control functions in Inventory Management. It is essential for
o updating the quantity fields
o updating the stock and consumption accounts
o selection of the fields used for entering documents
o printing goods receipt/issue slips
At the end of this document, a short description of the movement types defined in the Standard
configuration is contained under Further information.
Note
You have already completed the settings of the existing movement types in other steps. This
means that, normally, you do not need to maintain the existing movement types.
The various control indicators for the movement types are divided into several views in this step
(for example, entry control, posting control). You can find the relevant control indicators in each
view.
As some control indicators do not only depend on the movoment type, but also on other
parameters (for example, debit/credit indicator, special stock indicator, indicator for updating
quantities and values), you may find several entries for a movement type for certain views.
These entries are necessary to cover all possible data constellations in the system.
Standard Settings
In the standard system, movement types are preset for all transactions/events.
Recommendations
SAP recommends that you accept the settings defined in the standard system. In this case, no
action is required on your part.
However, if you have to define new movement types, it is recommended that you create these
movement types with reference to an existing movement type. In doing so, you do not have to
manually maintain the control indicators.
Activities
Check whether you can use the preset movement types.

CAUTION
Movement types have an important control function. In particular, they play a major role in
updating the stock quantity and stock value in the material master record. Changing some of
the indicators (such as the quantity string or value string) is considered a modification. Please
note that update errors resulting from incorrect settings for a movement type are
modification-based errors and as such cannot be corrected by the SAP Hotline.

Below is a short description of standard movement types. The reversal movement type is

Goods receipt for stock transport order On goods receipt, the transferred quantity is transferred
from stock in transit to unrestricted-use stock, quality inspection stock, or blocked stock in the
receiving plant.
Goods receipt for cross-company-code stock transport order with transfer of title at goods receipt:
In transaction VLPOD (Proof of Delivery - Change Outbound Delivery), you post the material
from the valuated stock in transit of the issuing plant to the unrestricted use stock of the receiving
plant. In this process, movement type 685 (Stock transfer from issuing valuated
cross-company-code stock in transit) is used for the issuing side and movement type 101 for the
receiving side.
Possible special stock indicators:
- Issuing side (movement type 685): T (mandatory indicator; Stock Transfer or Outbound
Delivery via Issuing Stock in Transit)
- Receiving side (movement type 101): E, Q, <leer>
Goods receipt to valuated GR blocked stock for the stock transfer with transfer of title at goods
issue process:
In transaction VL02N (Change Outbound Delivery), you post the material from the unrestricted
use stock of the issuing plant to the valuated stock in transit of the receiving plant. In this process,
movement type 683 (Stock transfer to receiving valuated cross-company-code stock in transit) is
used for the issuing side and movement type 107 for the receiving side.
Possible special stock indicators:

receiving plant. In this process, movement type 685 (Stock transfer from issuing valuated

Goods receipt from valuated GR blocked stock for the stock transfer with transfer of title at goods
issue process and for the stock transfer with transfer of title during transit process:
To complete these processes, go to transaction MIGO (Goods Receipt) and use movement type 109
to post the material from the valuated stock in transit of the receiving plant to the unrestricted use
stock of the receiving plant.
Depending on your process, you can post with reference to the outbound or inbound delivery.

Note:
To start a return stock transfer in transaction MIGO, post the goods receipt for the normal
outbound delivery with movement type 109. In the case of a return delivery for a purchase order
item that is flagged as a return item, the system finds movement type 169 (Goods Receipt, Return

post the material from the unrestricted use stock of the originally receiving plant to the valuated

When you do this, the system uses movement type 161 for the originally receiving side, and
movement type 695 (Stock Transfer, Return to Originally Issuing Valuated Cross-Company-Code

167 Goods Receipt, Return from Valuated Goods Receipt Blocked Stock
The sequence of movement types in the cross-company-code process corresponds to that in the

Note:
- You specify the transfer of title for stock transfer processes by assigning an order type in the
corresponding purchase order. The order type corresponds to the document type which must
be assigned, based on the issuing plant, to a delivery type in Customizing. Using
Customizing for item category determination in the delivery, the system finds the item
categories, and thereby the corresponding schedule line categories. The process is
controlled based on the schedule line category and the movement types assigned there.
- For each process with a defined transfer of title, you must first create a delivery (transaction
VL10B (Purchase Order, Fast Display) under Program -> Execute; you can set up this
program to run periodically).
For each purchase order item that you have flagged as a return item, the system creates a
return delivery.
685 Stock transfer from issuing valuated cross-company-code stock in transit (CST)
