Key Schemes Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015

1. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)


Launched on: 9 May 2015
Objective: To provide accidental insurance coverage at an affordable premium.
Key Features:
- Coverage: INR 2 lakh for accidental death/disability, INR 1 lakh for partial disability.
- Premium: Just INR 12 per year.
- Eligibility: People aged 18-70 with a bank account.
- Enrollment: Through participating banks or post offices.

2. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)


Launched on: 9 May 2015
Objective: To provide life insurance coverage at a low cost.
Key Features:
- Coverage: INR 2 lakh in case of death (any cause).
- Premium: INR 330 per year.
- Eligibility: 18-50 years (can continue till age 55 with renewal).
- Mode: Auto-debit from bank account.

3. Atal Pension Yojana (APY)


Launched on: 9 May 2015
Objective: To provide pension security for the unorganized sector.
Key Features:
- Pension Amount: INR 1,000 to INR 5,000 per month (based on contribution).
- Eligibility: Indian citizens aged 18-40.
- Government Contribution: Co-contribution of 50% or INR 1,000 per year (for 5 years) for eligible
subscribers.

4. Smart Cities Mission


Launched on: 25 June 2015
Objective: To develop 100 smart cities with sustainable infrastructure.
Key Features:
- Funding: INR 48,000 crore allocated (Central Govt. provides INR 100 crore per city per year).
- Focus Areas: IT connectivity, urban mobility, sanitation, and e-governance.
- Implementation: Through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs).
5. AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation)
Launched on: 25 June 2015
Objective: To improve basic urban infrastructure in 500 cities.
Key Features:
- Focus Areas: Water supply, sewage, urban transport, and green spaces.
- Funding: INR 50,000 crore over 5 years.
- Target: Ensure tap water and sewerage connections for all households.

6. Digital India
Launched on: 1 July 2015
Objective: To transform India into a digitally empowered society.
Key Features:
- Pillars: Broadband connectivity, e-governance, digital literacy.
- Major Initiatives:
- Aadhaar-linked services.
- DigiLocker for digital documents.
- BharatNet for rural internet connectivity.

7. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - Urban


Launched on: 25 June 2015
Objective: 'Housing for All' by 2022 in urban areas.
Key Features:
- Beneficiaries: EWS/LIG/MIG categories.
- Subsidy: Up to INR 2.67 lakh for EWS under Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).
- Target: 1.12 crore houses by 2022.

8. Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)


Launched on: 1 May 2016 (but announced in 2015)
Objective: Provide free LPG connections to women from BPL families.
Key Features:
- Target: 8 crore connections by 2020 (later expanded).
- Subsidy: INR 1,600 per connection.

9. Start-Up India
Launched on: 16 January 2016 (Announced in 2015)
Objective: To promote entrepreneurship and innovation.
Key Features:
- Tax exemptions for 3 years.
- INR 10,000 crore fund for start-ups.
- Simplified compliance and patent filing.
