GUIDE IN UNDERSTANDING THE RESULTS:
APM results are represented in terms of Percentile Rank (PR). The descriptive categories as
compared to norm group data are as follows:
Exceptional – PR is ≥ 99%
Superior – PR range is 90% – 98%
Above Average - PR range is 75% – 89%
Average - PR range is 25% – 74%
Below Average - PR range is 10% – 24%
Low - PR range is ≤ 9%
Mean and standard deviation (SD) values for college students, categorized by sex, are utilized for
converting raw scores into percentile ranks:
Australian University Student Time Limit Mean SD
Male 23.27 5.02
40 minutes
Female 22.75 4.63
Yates & Forbes, 1967
* Raw Score is an original datum that has not been transformed. This may include, for example, the
original result obtained by a student on a test (i.e., the number of correctly answered items) as
opposed to that score after transformation to a standard score or percentile rank or the like.
** Mean is the average score. It tells you about the typical value in a set of numbers.
*** Standard Deviation (SD) are measures of how spread out the scores are from the mean. A small
SD means the scores are close to the average. A large SD means the scores are more spread out.
**** Percentile is the value of a variable below which a certain percentage of scores fall. For example,
the 20th percentile is the value (or score) below which 20 percent of the scores may be found. The
term percentile and the related term percentile rank are often used in the reporting of scores from
in comparison with the scores of a sample group/group of examinees. For example, if a score is in the
86th percentile, it is higher than 85% of the other scores.

INTRODUCTION:
This report is a confidential summary based on responses to Raven’s Advanced Progressive
Matrices (APM). This instrument assesses fluid intelligence, measuring an individual's ability to
recognize patterns, solve abstract problems, and think logically without relying on prior knowledge.
The APM is widely used for educational placement, employment selection, and cognitive research to
better understand intellectual functioning in high-ability individuals.
I. PROFILE & INTERPRETATION:
Raw Score Percentile Rank Qualitative Description
36 99.3 Exceptional
II. GENERAL VERBAL INTERPRETATION:
PERFORMACE LEVEL INTERPRETATIONS
The individual demonstrates exceptional abstract reasoning ability and strong
problem-solving skills. This level is common in highly intelligent individuals,
Exceptional (Very Superior)
researchers, and professionals in cognitively demanding fields.
The individual has high fluid intelligence, strong pattern recognition, and
Superior
problem-solving skills. They can excel in complex analytical tasks.
The individual performs better than most peers and has strong logical
Above Average reasoning. They are likely to do well in academic and professional settings
requiring analytical thinking.
The individual has a typical reasoning ability. Their problem-solving and
Average
pattern-recognition skills are within the normal range.
The individual may experience difficulty with abstract reasoning tasks. They
Below Average
may require more time or practice to develop problem-solving strategies.
The individual has significant challenges with abstract reasoning and pattern
Low (Well Below Average)
recognition. They may benefit from targeted cognitive training.
Note:
The following results are based on the student's current mental functioning status. Further training
and development may hone the above-mentioned skills.
