The Book Make Lemonade By Virginia Euwer Wolff The...
Environment Effect In life many experience hardship. We live in a world where for some have to
work so hard everyday just to survive society. In the book Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer
Wolff the environment isn t stable for a lot of people. There is poverty and crime surrounding the
area and this makes it hard on everyone to be, and feel secure in their own environment. Throughout
the book Jolly s and LaVaughn s environment changes involuntarily. Once they both accept what they
can and cannot control their environments effect begins to be positive.
Before the book takes place both Jolly and LaVaughn had a different environment growing up.
Their environment shaped them to be the people we met in the beginning of the book. In the
beginning of the book LaVaughn shares a memory from when she was little with her mom. In
this memory when LaVaughn asked her mom if she could go to college her mom said, Nobody in
this building... ever went to college, nobody in my family... somebody got to be the first right?
From this moment on LaVaughn s main priority was to get good grades so that she could get into
college, and LaVaughn s mom s priority was to make sure LaVaughn worked hard for good grades.
This moment and the impact of this moment shaped who LaVaughn is in the beginning of the
book. Also when talking about her life now and as a child LaVaughns says, ... we pay our rent
exactly on time and we have insurance benefits from her (LaVaughn s mom) job and we go to the

(5) Printing The earliest printing in China was the block printing method in the first Century B.C.,
where the individual sheets of paper were pressed against wooden blocks that had text and
illustrations carved into them. This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies, this
technology played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named Bi
Sheng made movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each type
was carved with one character and the types could be set independently according to contents of
different articles. After printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved technology is
called movable type printing. (LAN, 2008) (6) Row Planting

The Chinese also invented the way to grow crops by placing them in rows sometime in the 6th
century BC. This allowed the crops to grow faster and stronger. This was not instituted in the
western world for another 2200 years. Master Lu wrote in the Spring and Autumn Annals : If the
crops are grown in rows they will mature rapidly because they will not interfere with each other s
growth. The horizontal rows must be well drawn, the vertical rows made with skill, for if the lines
are straight the wind will pass gently through. This text was compiled around 240 BC. (Stevenh,

Can Money Buy Happiness Essay
Can money buy everything, including money?
Some people think that money can buy everything. Does that include happiness? Can money really
buy happiness? Different people have different opinion about this as well as the definition of
happiness that varies through people. According to the dictionary, happiness is the state of being
happy. Happiness is not just a state of mind but it is a state of emotion. Martin Seligman, the father
of positive psychology, theorises that while 60% of happiness is determined by our genetics and
environments, the remaining 40 % is up to us. Psychologists have researched that when you are
happy, certain hormones are release. The feelings we experience are nothing more than chemical
reactions taking place in our body. So do you think money can be used to make this reaction
happen? Can money really buy happiness? This world is full of wealthy people, such as the royal
and billionaire. The question is, are they always happy? We cannot deny the fact that money is
needed in order for us to be able to satisfy our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time I go shopping, it never fails to bring happiness to me. However, it is just short term
happiness. What really makes me happy is when I get to stay with my family and friends, this
happiness cannot be bought from any place but it need to be built within. It is the kind of
happiness that lingers for long time. In conclusion, happiness can happen in thousands of ways. It
is just whether you want happiness to last for a long time or just a short period. Think of what
makes you happy., our doubts about happiness cannot be answered abstractly. Not even the best
theories can make you happy; you have to test it yourself. However, to me, I don t think I can buy
feelings and certainly cannot force a chemical reaction to take place in my body. Neither can it force
hormones of happiness to be
Child Soldiers Persuasive Essay
Worldwide, the use of child soldiers is a huge issue. Today, there are over 300,000 child soldiers
worldwide. Every one of these soldiers are heavily armed and dangerous. They have been
becoming a threat to America and the world. No matter their age, they have done terrible thing in
behalf of terrible causes. Even as America continues to bring these kids to back in hope to rescue
them, most if not all attempts to civilize them have failed. These kids have been swindled, drugged
and brainwashed. There is simply no hope for them to return to their right mind.
Even though kids under the age of 12 can t be held accountable for crimes and actions, what these
child soldiers are doing would cause a lifetime sentence in prison for any adult. Child soldiers have
been involved in the most brutal acts. In an article that discusses the issue it says, In Sierra Leone,
child soldiers have committed acts of rape, mutilations and mass killings of civilians. This is just
only one of the many times child soldiers would do such a thing as this. Nobody in their right mind
would participate in such act. Such things are inhuman and whoever is caught in the act, no matter
the age, should be stopped or even put to death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whoever says such a thing is wrong. Many if not most of these children occupy command positions
and are responsible for organizing or ordering commision war crimes and human right abuses. Many
also join according to their free will because some terrorist groups offer money. Or one may join to
avenge a lost family member or friend. These children knew exactly what they were doing and
should not be excused from their actions simply because they were too young to take responsibility

The Media’s Negative Influence on Society
The Media s Negative Influence on Society There is a lot of controversy about how the media
affects people, but in my opinion I think the influence we get is more negative than positive. The
media is one of the things that impact people the most because in today s society it is impossible to
ignore. It influences the ways in which we dress, speak, act and think. Media is fed to us through
movies, television, radio, social media, music, and magazines. I believe mass mediais pressuring the
way womanand girls want to look, twists reality, and is sexist towards woman without people even
realizing. I think the most dominant affect the media has is on young women. The number one
message the media sends is that all females must be skinny to... Show more content on

A teenager s main source of information about sex comes from what they pick up in the media. In
television shows, music videos and video games, dressing skimpy, hooking up, and casual sex is
totally normal. The problem is that there is rarely any mention of protection or STDs. This makes
people in real life forget about those things, which leads to unexpected pregnancies and the spread
of STDs. After the media demands you to be thin, it also wants you to be provocative and sexual,
which I think is completely unrealistic. The media expresses an image, behavior, and lifestyle
that are unrealistic for many people. ANAD says that the perfect body portrayed in
advertisements is possessed naturally by only 5% of American girls. What many people do not
understand, is that celebrities, models, and even News Reporters and broadcasters will not go on
screen without altering their natural appearance. From head to toe, they need to look good. Their
hair is styled by professionals and artists do their makeup. Their clothing is chosen by stylists and
what some people may not know is that many clothes you see celebrities wear, they do not even
own. To the people on the other side of the camera, they seem to look perfect all the time, which
makes them believe it is attainable. The average person does not have all these luxury services, and
when they realize it is impossible to look flawless all the time, it
Political Parties And The Republican Party Platform
Generally speaking, anyone who lives in the United States of America knows that there are two
main political parties the Republicans and the Democrats. Having two main parties has its
advantages and, of course, its disadvantages. For example, in By the People James E. Monroe and
Rogan Kersh (301) point out having this type of system creates predictability and stability.
However, they also declare (301) it can lead to a gridlock. This is not a new concept either as there
has been a divide since the beginning of both parties. The two parties more often than not disagree
on various issues, while rarely agreeing on what is best for the country.
Democrats and Republicans highly differ when comparing views on climate change. The Democrats
accept human role in climate change while many Republicans question if climate change is even
real. In the 2016 Democratic Party Platform (27), they state in the first 100 days of the next
administration, the president will convene a summit of the words best engineers, climate scientists,
policy experts, activists, and indigenous communities to chart a course to solve the climate crisis.
This is highlighted previously when President Obama, a Democrat, traveled to Paris for a convention
about climate change where he met other leaders around the world to make a plan to help fix the
issues surrounding climate change. This shows the basic principles of the Democratic Party as
internationalist and having the large government as it states in the

was currently outside of his window for qualifications of flight. He was overdue for this Part 135

poor documentation the owner/operator had let the unqualified pilot fly. The pilot had
experience flying this particular make and model of aircraft prior to the day of the accident;
however, it was unclear wither or not the pilot had experience flying in mountainous areas
because the pilot s logbook was never found. Furthermore, the pilot failed to follow proper
procedures by filing a IFR or VFR flight plan, acquiring a weather report, by failing to do a proper
weight and balance of the aircraft, and he failed to secure the cargo properly. Zonk employee s
failed the pilot by failing to inquire about the pilot s personal life that was obviously affecting his
professional life. Procedures should have been followed to take the pilot out of service until a
proper determination could be made about his ability to perform his duties properly. The HFACS

Re:Demand Response Programs for MISO and ERCOT

Introduction

This memo provides details on behind the meter generation (BTMG), and demand response program
for Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Electric Reliability Council of Texas
(ERCOT). Demand response is the change in electric usage by the end user from their normal
consumption patterns in response to changes in the price of electricity over time, or to incentive
payments designed to induce lower electricity use at times of high wholesale market prices or when
system reliability is at risk . Demand response can be provided by either by continuously
controllable loads or with BTMG. A market participant is compensated by Independent System
Operator s (ISO s) for providing demand response. The following information gives details on the
demand response program categories and behind the meter (BTM) generators participating in these
programs.

MISO

MISO manages a multi state region with an annual peak load of 105,000 MW. It designs and
implements wholesale markets for the Midwest region and produces an annual system planning
report. MISO issues a document on demand response entitled, Business Practices Manual: Demand
Response. This document provides with the information needed to understand the purpose and
application of Demand Response within MISO region. MISO has three demand response programs

The Film Gladiator
In the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott, the director makes use of various filmic techniques in
order to enunciate the overall narrative. This essay will analyse the directors use of coloured
lighting, various camera shots and angles, sounds as well as character portrayal and costumes as
these elements play a major role in ensuring the authenticity of the opening scene.

At the beginning of the film the audience is introduced to the Universal and DreamWorks logos
which are in a sepia colour followed by historical information which indicates that the beginning of
the film is set in the past. However, when the opening scene begins, the director makes use of gold
lighting which is used as a symbol of both peace and the wealth of the Roman Empire. The director
then makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The frame cuts to a cold and dark battlefield in which the director has used a close up of Maximus
s face in order to reveal the emotions of a tired soldier, however, Maximus catches a glimpse of a
Red Robin which often symbolises the return of warmth after a long cold haul and the red breast
signifies the forthcoming of bloodshed. As Maximus moves towards his army there is a long shot
which displays him walking alone thus introducing the theme of isolation. Moreover, this frame
allows the audience to discover that Maximus is a man of importance through the use of his
costume, Maximus s armour is far bigger than the other characters as well as has different insignias
weaved into it. As the battle draws near, a high angle long shot is used to display the mighty
Roman army, wearing blood red capes to further emphasise the forthcoming of bloodshed.
Furthermore, the opposing army s armour is rather contrasting to that of the Roman Empire as they
are dressed in rugged cloth which suggests that they are not nearly as superior as the Romans who
wear a steel
