Colombia And The Revolutionary Armed Forces Of Colombia
In Colombia, a historic peace accord has been brokered between the government and the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that is set to end half a century of conflict
between the state and the terrorist organization. The FARC rebels have long been a powerful
member of the cocaine trade in Colombiaand beyond, aiding in the development and exportation of
the drug to the United States. With the alliance between the FARC rebels and the Colombian
government pending, the FARC will be demilitarized and integrated back into Colombian society
for the first time in more than 50 years. Upon this historic event, roughly 60% of Colombia s coca,
the plant used to produce cocaine, will be relinquished from the hold of the rebels. The... Show more

government intervened in the situation, authorizing Plan Colombia, a $1.3 billion aid package
intended to reinforce the Colombian government and build up their military. With this support,
anti drug programs were initiated that slowed the FARC profits from the drug trade, today
leaving the FARC controlling 60% of the world s coca crops and earning anywhere from $200
million up to $1 billion annually from the drug trade. The current peace accord talks began on
February 23, 2012, when delegates from both the FARC and the Colombian government started
meeting covertly in Havana, Cuba. Following the formation of the Havana Accord on August 26
of that same year, formal peace negotiations began on September 4. This accord makes clear six
focal points: (1) integrated agricultural development policy, (2) political participation for the FARC,
(3) end of the conflict Disarmament, (4) solution to the problem of illicit drugs, (5) victims, and (6)
implementation, verification, and ratification by the Colombian People. For the purposes of this
paper, agenda points 1 and 4 will be most heavily referenced and analyzed. Agenda Item 1 was
agreed upon on May 26, 2013. The Rural Reform Agreement focuses on the people, the small
producer, land access and distribution, the fight against poverty, stimuli to agricultural and livestock
production and the reactivation of the rural economy. The success of this endeavor is critical to

The Comparison of the Road and Into the Wild Essay
The Comparisons of the Boys

Two popular novels that are read in English literature today are Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Both these books share three valuable comparisons. One being that
both protagonists go on a self evolving and physical journey, another that both the fathers in the
novel share demanding relationships with their sons, and the lessons that both boys learned. A
journey does not have to be simply walking through the woods. It can actually be a person going
through an internal transformation. In Into the Wild and The Road Chris McCandles and the young
boy go through their own transformations on their journey. The young boys matures over the course
of his journey with his changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents can have influencing decisions on children when they are still at a small age of being
dependent on others. All throughout The Road the father constantly tells his son the next route on
the journey, who to and to not trust, and decisions he must make. Ever since the day where the
whole world diminished the father began to map out of the route the two men would take leaving
his son with no room for his input. The father would never let his son be an open minded
individual and get to know people for who they are. A prime example of this is when the men
stumble open a poor, old, dirty man sitting on the ground of their path with hardly any clothing on
and his bone deteriorating. The father believes the vagabond is trying to steal food and the son
believes he truly just needs help. The boy finds it in his heard to give the man a jar of peaches
but his father is very hesitant and insist that the boy must not continue speaking to the homeless
man and too specifically not ask him to dinner. The young boy crushed by his fathers ignorance
and crude behavior begins to see a change in his father and really trust if his father is trying to
protect the both of them or just scared of getting to know people. At the end of the story when the
father passes away he passes on the torch to his son to be able to make executive decisions and all of

Examples Of Conformism In The Stranger
TOPIC #2
THE STRANGER LAP
AP Literature

PERIOD 1

Wolves roam around nature indifferent from its surroundings until a full moon rises above and
manipulates it. Triggered by the full moon the wolf lets out its inner beast and howls. Humans are
triggered by many things in nature, like the wolf who is manipulated by the full moon most humans
are manipulated by the bright suns. The sun in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus is an
advisory for the indifference of the protagonist Meursault.
The indifference of Meursault was devastating to the structure of societal conformity making it a
habit of ostracizing him throughout the novel and only when the sun rises the truth is revealed.
Since the beginning of the novel it was evident that Meursault was uncertain about the world he lives
in, his attitude showed that he was detached from the world that he didn t even know when his
mother died. Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don t know. (Camus 3). However, when
exposed to the sun, Meursault grew more irritated and indifferent than he already was. It was
obvious that Meursault had trouble with adjusting to the heat and bright lights. As the sun and the
heat grew stronger and more overpowering, it became more manipulative. But today with the sun
bearing down, making the whole landscape shimmer with heat, it was inhuman and oppressive.
(Camus 15). Meursault was walking in the sun when going to bury his mother. All the heat and all

Wealthier Is Wrong
73,000 people sit on waiting lists for a kidney 18 of them will die tomorrow and 6,000 more
patients join the list every year (Monti, 2013, p. 1). To get needed organs, many people have
proposed the idea of selling organs to persuade the general public to give organs instead of donating
and make the availability greater. Currently in America, the only way to obtain an organis to have it
donated by someone who is a match, which greatly revolves around family members and friends. If a
family member is not a match, then the patient gets put on a waiting list that may take months to
fulfill. This has turned wealthier patients to buying illegal organs off the black market. Furthermore,
it creates an unfair advantage for the wealthier patients... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wealthier people have more opportunities using their money. For example, Marchione (2015)
states, Wealthy people can better afford the tests and travel to get on more than one transplant
center s lists (p.5). These events are something that an individual in the lower class can not do.
Even if a poor patient has a more serious condition, the wealthier patient can take the availability
of that organ away. Also, according to Marchione (2015), Multiple listed patients are more likely
to get a transplant and less likely to die, a recent study shows (p.1). This is stating that patients
who are on more lists are getting their needed organs, making the organs availability for the less
fortunate go down. Selling organs also creates an unfair advantage because it can destroy
altruism. Altruism is the medical term meaning to promote someone else s success, when an
individual is at risk of their own wellbeing. According to Ireland (2008), Studies suggest that a
profit based system will destroy altruism and reduce the number of kidneys for the poor from live
donors and cadavers (p. 1). This makes the act of being selfless and caring go away from the
process of organ donation. It creates an advantage for the wealthy because a lower class individual
is only selling the organ for money. Therefore, this builds another circumstance for the poor when
wanting to sell organs to needy patients. The underprivileged sellers
Model Reuse With Bike Rental Station
Model Reuse with Bike Rental Station Data Authors: 1.Arun Bala Subramaniyan, M.S. Industrial
Engineering, Arizona State University. 2. Dr. Rong Pan, Associate Professor of Industrial
Engineering, Arizona State University. Introduction and Motivation Bike Rental Stations are a
good business in places with large number of tourists and also the native people rent bikes for
their day to day work. In this project, the bike rental station located in Valencia, the third largest
city of Spain is considered. The bike rental company would like to predict the number of bikes
available in each station three hours in advance. There are atleast two uses for such prediction. At
first, a user plans to rent (or return) a bike in 3 hours time and wants to... Show more content on

This process is continued for selecting the best model for all the new stations (201 to 275). The R
software package is used for this purpose. The extracted best models for the new stations are
stored in .csv file. In some cases, the prediction result is negative or it exceeds the maximum limit
of the bikes that can be parked in a station. This can be overcome by adding a constraint such that
whenever the result is negative, the value is reset to zero and whenever the result exceeds the
maximum limit, the value is reset to the number of docks at the particular station. So, this helps in
reducing the error value. Prediction Using the extracted models, the number of bikes at the new
stations is predicted. The same constraints are applied to avoid negative values and over fitting.
The R software is used for predicting the number of bikes. The results of this prediction are stored
in .csv file. Other Methods tried for prediction Instead of reusing the trained models, new models
were built with the given deployment data for stations 201 to 275. Some of the methods used are
given below. Ordinary Least Squares Method After collecting and cleaning the data, the first model
was built using all the regressors under consideration. A thorough analysis of this full model,
including residual analysis and multicollinearity check was done. The best subset regression was
also tried. The normal probability
Ricciotto Canudo s The Birth Of The Seventh Art
For 121 years, film has been an art form which combines architecture, music, painting, sculpture,
poetry and dance according to Ricciotto Canudo s The Birth of the Seventh Art. It is the best way
and latest method for artists to create and share their imagination. I love sharing my imagination in
my films, not only owing to the fact that I am good at telling stories, but I am also a man with the
ambition to change peoples aesthetic view with experimental films. As my passion lies in film
making, I have made several shorts that I wrote, directed, produced and filmed.

Once Upon a Time in Boyhood was the beginning of my film career. It s during the first year of

First, the critical thinking courses in both history of cinema and tradition on film making has
been attached a great importance in SFAI s curricula which is vital for me to create an
experimental film. All great experimental works or theories are based on older ones, for example,
David Lynch s film style was obviously affected by the European Avant grade Film Movement,
specifically surrealism. Emphasizing the randomness in dream and the interpretation of dreams
became a significant feature of Lynch s work. Thus, it is important to learn from classic theorists
to find my own style. Secondly, courses at SFAI are based on enabling student understanding
toward the fundamental process of film, especially in a very unique Wet Lab offering students
with 16mm and Super 8mm which will not only teach me the digital production process, but also
the traditional ones. As an independent filmmaker, I participate in every aspect of my own work
from screenplay writing to the background editing and Da Vinci Resolve. Although participation
on every aspect of film production does help me learn a lot, professional training on handling
basic concepts of film photography and storytelling strategies will definitely enable me to become
an expert in filmmaking. As a Chinese student, I have never taken a film class, and I have learned
all of my skills from books or websites; I am eager to seek specialised education at
Differences Between Minority And Minority Groups
Abstract

This study explores the relationships between majority and minority groups and their awareness of
blatant and subtle prejudice, by priming either common or dual identity. It was hypothesized that due
to their marginalization, minority groups will be more aware of both subtle and blatant prejudice
and that those primed with dual identity will show a similar heightened awareness. The results
demonstrated that majority groups were more aware of both types of prejudice, contradicting many
previous results in this area. This study was conducted on an Australian population, making it
unique, and possibly explaining the contrary results. However, it has also been suggested that the
social stigma surrounding racism in our society has increased the awareness by majority groups, as
they strive to be politically correct and avoid judgment by their peers. Another worthy discussion
point is the internalization of prejudice by minority groups living in a majority dominated society.

How Common and Dual Identity Can Influence Majority and Minority Awareness of Subtle and
Blatant Prejudice

In modern society, prejudiced ideas and values are present amongst majority dominated societies
(Banaji Devos, 2005). Minority groups, and individuals with a heightened sense of cultural
affiliation to their ethnicity, have been shown to be more aware of subtle prejudice than majority
groups (Operario Fiske, 2001). Previous research in the area of racial prejudice has also
The Ideas And Institutions Of Colonial Modernity
The ideas and institutions of colonial modernity were brought to India from outside that is by the
agents of European, especially British imperialism. This was in sharp contrast to the primarily or
largely internal or indigenous processes through which Europe itself had launched its project of
enlightenment and modernity. The claim of monopoly and expertise over modernity was used as
justification by the colonial powers to fulfil its imperial ambitions. The colonial rule reflected
dichotomies at two different levels. Firstly, liberty that was held to be the most sacred value of
the enlightenment project was being curtailed through the process of colonialism another product
of the same project. Further, the same argument of modernity which was being used to enlarge
civil liberties in west was used to deny basic rights to the colonial masses. This was also reflected
in the case of freedom of expression. The people who celebrated and claimed freedom of
expression and press as sacred in their own societies, under the garb of imperial rulers became its
ardent critique in the colonies, restricting both free expression and freedom of press for their own
benefits. For many, British India was a contradictory political formation. In Henry Maine s words, it
was a most extraordinary experiment involving the virtually despotic government of a dependency
by a free people. These dichotomies produced a new context through the interaction of east and west
which is clearly
The Unitarian Universalist Meeting House
On October 12th 2014 I ventured into the Unitarian Universalist meeting house, which is located
at 501 South High Street in West Chester, PA. I was greeted at the door by openly gay Reverend
Bill Zelazny, who was wearing a tallis like prayer shawl which was a colorful tapestry with no
discernable symbols on it. His head was uncovered. Reverend Bill was very welcoming and
agreed to meet with me after the service, which I was invited to stay for. I had never been to a
religious service in a denomination other than Judaism in my life, so I was very excited to have
the opportunity to experience the Unitarian faith close up. What first struck me was the utter lack
of religious symbols in the actual meeting room. The walls were adorned with what looked to be
homemade quilts and tapestries of varying designs. Some were just colorful squares in a pattern,
while another seemed to depict scenes of African life and dance. There were two identical
tapestries at the front of the room, displaying colored curved candles in a rainbow pattern
surrounding a dove in flight. The tapestry looked to be imitating a feeling of stained glass. Next
to the pulpit were two woven signs that hung down from tables. One said Coexist and the other
said Peace . The only place I saw any recognizable religious symbol was in the corner of the room,
where a quilt had several panels of different religious symbols. It included a cross, the Star of David,
the Islamic star and crescent, the Yin and Yang, as
