Health Science Personal Statement
Health science classes have greatly impacted my high school experience, as well as my life. As a
freshman, not knowing what my life would hold, I chose the health science pathway. Upon entering
the Introduction To Health Sciences classroom, my interest began to blossom, becoming more of a
passion. I learned the basics, such as how one small mistake on the part of the healthprofessional
could be fatal to a patient. I proceeded to Diagnostic Medicine, where I learned about specific
specialties. There, I dove deeper, receiving hands on experience with the dissection of a cow
eyeball to better understand the anatomy of an eye. This was a fascinating experience to me, being
able to visually and physically explore the science of anatomy. Most recently,... Show more content

I feel as if the camp would be a great exploratory experience for me, as it provides such
opportunities as lectures, job shadowing, and field trips. The camp takes place the summer prior
to my Senior year, a time of difficult but extremely crucial decisions. The ETSU medical camp
would be a great assistance in my decision making process. It will provide insight and hands on
experience with health careers, helping me to focus on a specific entity. It would also provide me
with on campus college experience. I would have the opportunity to reside on the ETSU campus for
a week, getting a look at campus life as well as ETSU in particular as a prospective
Theseus And The Minotaur
There are many examples of heroes throughout history and in story books that convey great
messages, but what makes your leaders heroes? There are many attributes that make a hero but
there are three main areas. To be a hero, one must be willing to make many sacrifices, be humble
and not expect anything from the actions, and make positive changes. To be a hero means to sacrifice
something for someone else no matter the circumstances or dangers. An example of this is in the
myth Theseus and the Minotaur. It gives a great example of sacrifice and heroism. Powerful king
Minos of Crete demands Athenian women and men every year to feed to the Minotaur. When
Theseus heard about this, he was not happy. He took the place of one of the sacrificed men and
went to the labyrinth of the Minotaur to try and kill the beast himself. Theseus then expressed his
feelings of frustration by saying saying, When it is time to send the next tribute, I will go as one
of them and I vow that it is the last time the Minotaur will be fed with the flesh of any of our
people. Theseus was strong and was willing to put himself in danger for the safety of his people.
Not many people have the courage to sacrifice themselves. Parents make sacrifices every day.
Think of how hard mothers or fathers works to make money, to keep the kids happy, to feed them,
to clean up after everyone, to get their kids where they what to go. My mom makes sacrifices
everyday. She takes my brother dance right after a long
Reflection On Calcium
I have learned from the computer analysis project that my intake in calcium is low, and my intake
in sodium is high. My DRI reports showed me that I am receiving only 31% of the recommended
daily value for calcium intake. An appropriate amount of calcium is 1300 mg, but I consumed only
409 mg. My DRI reports also showed me that I consumed above the recommended range for sodium.
A deficiency of calcium has serious effects just as a toxicity of sodium does. After reviewing my
reports, I learned that I need to change my diet and be more cautious about the amounts of calcium
and sodium that I consume.
In nutrition class, I learned that calcium is a mineral that an individual needs in order to maintain
healthy bones. If an individual does not consume enough calcium than he or she is will be at risk
of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a lack of calcium in bones which is a loss of total bone mass, not
just minerals. Bones become weak and very brittle. This leads to fractures of the weight bearing
bones, such as those in the hips and spines. To prevent osteoporosis, I need to consume the daily
recommended value of calcium. Calcium is primarily found in dairy products such as cheese and
milk. Throughout September 30th to October 2nd, I did not consume enough dairy products. Out of
the 1300mg recommended value for calcium, I only consumed 409 mg. I ate American processed
cheese, scrambled eggs and mashed potato which were prepared with milk, but that was not enough
to meet the
Discourse Analysis of Internet News
Discourse Analysis of Internet News I. Introduction Inherited the idea of situational context from
Malinwoski, Halliday abstracts the theory as semiotic construct, which consists of field, tenor and
mode. Any alteration of these three elements may produce different styles of discourse. By change
of the field, it can be news about politics, economy, sports, etc; by change of the tenor, it transforms
into news reports, editorials and column writings; by change of the mode, it turns out to be
newspaper news, broadcasting news, TV news and internet news. As we know, human language
changes under the influence of various social and situational factors. Today thanks to the
popularization of internet, people can get much more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And new information does not exist in the aforementioned as well as the context of communication.
Let s take an example of internet news (titled Deadly Strain of Bird Flu Found in India) to see how
its information distributes in the discourse. New 1 - New 1 Given 2 - New 2 Given 3 - New 3
Given 4 - New 4 New 5 - New 5 Given 6 - New 6 New 7 - Given 7 New 8 - New 8 New 9

It is generally believed that the given information should be put at the starting point of an utterance
(theme), and then follows the new (rheme). However, this rule is not so tough for the example
shown at above. At the theme position, 7 sentences begin with new information (63.6%), and 2
sentences have rhemes with given information (18%). The result confirms that internet news is a
kind of discourse that is highly packed with relative information. Readers may have a relatively large

Argumentative Essay On Survivor Tsunami
On paper, survivor guilt seems to be a completely irrational concept. Why should you feel guilty if
someone died and you survived if you had absolutely nothing to do with their death, or if you tried
to save someone s life but you physically couldn t? Without context, it almost seems silly.
However, in the real world, people will form strong emotional bonds with each other and will feel
responsible for their friends and family if all goes wrong, even if you had nothing to do with what
has occurred. Similarly, if someone you have strong emotional connections with dies from an
incident and you do, the resulting regret, grief, and guiltis known as survivor guilt. In The Seventh
Man by Haruki Murakami, a tsunami strikes the narrator s hometown, during which he and his
friend K., while in the tranquil eye of the storm, go to the beach they spend lots of time together
to assess the damage from the first half of the storm. While there, a loud noise is heard by the
narrator, and sees a gargantuan wave speeding toward the shore, and tries to pry K. out of the path
of destruction, alas, he was too invested in an object upon the sand. The narrator speeds away from
the wave in an attempt to save his own life, and soon sees K. inside the second wave after being
swept away in the first. Throughout the rest of the narrator s life, he deals with horrible nightmares
and a guilty conscience as a consequence of his traumatic childhood event and tries to rid himself of
this pain, eventually
Essay on Analysis of The Metamorphosis
Analysis of The Metamorphosis
This story The Metamorphosis is about Gregor, a workaholic, who is changed into an insect and
must then deal with his present reality. The hardest part of being an insect for him was the alienation
from his family, which eventually leads to his death. In reading the short story The Metamorphosis,
(1971),one can realize how small the difference is between Magical Realism and Fantastic. This
literature written by the Austrian, Franz Kafka, is often debated over.
The magical elements in this story are obvious like they should be in fantastic literature. It is not
often that humans are turned into insects. Another magical element that is not as clear is the
unconditional love that Gregor had for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After someone accepts what he or she have become, that someone and his or her family must deal
with it. The rest of the story depicts one s life after this turning point.
Like in all fantastic literature, the relationship between the magical element and the rest of the
world causes a huge problem. The world as the characters know it does a 180 degree turn around
that Rabkin mentions. The family was completely dependent on Gregor before the metamorphosis.
Now Mr. Samsa has a job as a bank guard, Mrs. Samsa sews underwear, and Grete is a saleslady,
and the family has nothing to do with Gregor. They turned on him when he needed them. This
feeling of worthlessness kills him.
Kafka uses defamiliarization in his fantastic story even though it is a characteristic of magical
realism. Magic Realists use defamiliarization to radically emphasize common elements of reality
(Simpkins 150). Kafka uses defamiliarization through telling the story of Gregor. Gregor, a
workaholic, who always tries to do what is best for his family makes himself miserable in a job that
he hates. He always puts others first. This approach eventually leads to his loneliness when his
family finds out what he has become due to his job. Everyone in this story goes through his or her
own metamorphosis. Through defamiliarization, Kafka examines life,
Auto Racing Drivers Persuasive Essay
1. The occupation in question is that of a Race Car driver, or auto racing driver, or motorist, or a
whole host of unnecessary names made by those who fly the EU flag. My interest in the field
stems from, well I don t exactly know. Though nothing is more satisfying than watching a good
race or being part of one yourself, maybe that helps clear up the source of my interest. So naturally
racing is what I had to make this career research paper about, so without further ado let s get into
it. To those unaware, racing demands much more than driving fast to win. As far as responsibilities
go there are quite a few, to say the least. 2. They include getting around the track as fast as possible,
knowing how and when to properly accelerate/decelerate,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s definitely a big risk, but it comes with an equally as big pay and recognition. 10. First, the
fame, everyone (in America) has surely heard of Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. these are
people who are the best of the best in their sport and have the skills to prove it, (Shmoop.com).
Then, internationally names like Nico Rosberg or Ken Block can be appreciated. 13. Secondly,
the fortune, well as with any field, racing salaries are vastly different. Beginners might bring home
150 to 300 thousand, but the best get paid up to 30 million a year, (Allaboutcareers.com). 12.
Third, the family, this can vary from person to person. For example, your wife/husband needs to
understand the risk involved and, be willing to work with the ever changing schedules. Though if
you could get past those two things, racing would be a really entertaining career for your spouse to
