Flavo s Home By Gordon Parks
It keeps growing, spreading like cancer, human excrement clogged the sewer, a large hole served as a
toilet, the children ate with their fingers, desperate criminals hid in the night, long lines waited at the
sole water spigot, others waited at the only toilet in the entire mountainside, throughout the place
came wailing of hunger and hurt, povertyis everything but a laughing matter. Photographer and
writer, Gordon Parks, in his essay, Flavio s Home reveals the struggles of families in poverty in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil, highlighting a social political concern faced in many countries. Parks essay,
originally published in Voices in the Mirror during the 1990 s, adopts an evocative tone in order to
appeal to the incognizant rich to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By appealing to the reader s emotions, Parks uses pathos to encourage the reader to want to stop
such tragedies from occurring. Parks is also credible, by being a well known photographic essayist
who has grown up knowing the struggle of poverty and racism himself. Parks gains impact by
mentioning in detail the way that Flavio s family lives, and what a usual day consists of, for his
family. Though he offers no solutions, just the presentation of the struggles of one child, Parks
emphasizes specifically how the rich ignore the plight of these impoverished people, facing the other
direction by comparing the lifestyle in Parks hotel, and Flavio s home.
Evidently, Parks builds a strong interpretation of the rising population of poverty, bringing a new
perspective and meaning to the reader. The use of distinct details lets the reader imagine exactly
what wants to be visualized by Parks, describing grimy walls that had large gaps, and floors, rotting
under layers of grease and dirt (Parks 2). Since Flavio s parents are away for most of the day, he is
left with chores to do until dark when he finally came back, his body sagging, ready to end the
day (Parks 2). Parks word choice creates immediacy, as if the reader were in Flavio s shoes,
constantly struggling to support a family. This lets readers obtain a greater meaning of poverty, that
can be reestablished and shared
The Pros And Cons Of Public Forums
The auditorium should be treated not as a limited public forum, but instead as a designated public
forum. First, the difference between the four distinct forums in which speech is regulated must be
established. The Cornelius Court established the first three forums. Cornelius v. NAACP Legal Def.

As advocated in the Lamb argument, because of the many similarities that the group shares it is
clear that the district has opened the School up to a wide variety of communicative purposes. The
amount of examples the Church can offer, or the amount of exceptions the School can make is
immaterial. What matters is that the Church shares traits with accepted groups; therefore the School
does not have a valid reason to maintain a limited public forum. This makes the School a designated
public forum. Now the same rules that govern traditional public forums
Who Is Bilbo Baggins In The Hobbit
Bilbo Baggins is introduced as a hobbit that is warm welcoming and whole hearted however he is
not one to enjoy adventures. He would rather hang out all day in his hobbit hole than embark on
an adventure. As Bilbo s history is explained we come to learn that there are two sides to him: a
Took and a Baggins. These two sides are what seem to effect his decisions, however in this novel,
the Took side wins. Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the
great mountains, and hear the pine trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a
sword instead of a walking stick (Tolkien 15). This is the moment where Bilbo Bagginsbegins his
adventures and battles. J.R.R. Tolkien portrays a sense of adventure through the fantasy of the novel.

Brought together by wizard Gandalf are the 13 dwarfs. They need Bilbo s help to regain their
fortress in the Lonely Mountain as well as their treasure that dragon Smaug has stolen. Initially,
Bilbo doesn t think that he is good enough for the title burglar but as he encounters obstructions
along the way to Smaug s cave he proves himself otherwise. In a fantasizing fashion, Tolkien takes
the reader on Bilbo s adventure in route to Smaug. Encountering the trolls, the elves, Goblins,
giant spiders, the dragon, and the Battle of Five Armies . Tolkien using fantasy creatures and
events to carry along the story and adventures keeps the readers intrigued and excited. As a reader,
you feel as if you are with Bilbo and the dwarfs on their quest. The idea of fantasizing the novel
corresponds with the idea of Bilbo being considered an epic hero because he defeated epic battles
and larger than life events making him honored in a fashion like no
Drupal Coding Standards Essay
Drupal Coding Standards Drupal coding standards are independent of the version number, type
and are always concurrent . All new code should follow current standards, regardless of initial
type. Availed code found in an older version always needs updating, but it does not certainly have
to be. Especially for larger code bases (like Drupal core), updating the code of a previous version
for your instant standards is too difficult a task. However, the code in current versions follows
certain implementable standards. Do not squeeze coding standards updates/clean ups into otherwise
unrelated coding methods. Only touch code lines are always relevant. To update existing code for
your accessed standards, create separate and devoted issues as well... Show more content on

Daphne Berdahl s Film Good Bye, Lenin !
Upon its emergence, Good Bye, Lenin! was characterised by a so called renaissance of GDR
Heimat feeling, as presented by Daphne Berdahl, writing on late 1990s trend of recuperation and
reproduction of Ostalgic GDR products, which she argues revealed complex relations between
personal histories, disadvantage, dispossession and the betrayal of promises. Whereas these
complexities are echoed in the film, one could argue that it has a more expanded function as well
as could be perceived in a globally charged context. Good Bye, Lenin! is set in the East Germany,
around the time of the fall of Berlin Walland circles around the Kerner family, comprising of a
twenty year old Alex, his older sister Ariane and their mother Christiana. One night,... Show more

Secondly, the production of an imaginary Heimat is embedded with the harmonious family
affiliations that produce an imagined community, which, in turn, has the capacity to resist.
Certain critics referred to this merging of aspects of social and political reality as well as
personal escapes of that reality, as a psychotic substitution of actual experiences with a dark
conspirational vision: the creation of a delusionary homeland . However, it could be argued that it
is the master narrative of unified German Heimat produced by the state, which is embedded with
the delusional quality, as it fails to acknowledge the multiplicity of experiences. Good Bye, Lenin!
, on the other hand, openly underlines the ability that mediascapes have to produce an array of
realities, merging imaginary aspects with the truth. This is especially evident in a series of fake
news reports, devised by Alex and his friend, as responses to his mother being accidently exposed
to Western innovations. For instance, a giant Coca Cola advert that Alex s mother sees through her
bedroom window, is described as an outcome of a recent discovery that the brand was, in fact, a
Socialist invention. Similarly, when Christiana catches a glimpse of the abundance of Western cars
in the traffic,
Confidentiality In Social Work
Confidentiality
To ensure confidentiality and to protect the client s personal information the interview between the
client and I was conducted in a private room at Catholic Charities. Before conducting the interview I
addressed confidentiality and assure the client that our conversation will remain confidential with the
exceptions of child abuse, and if the client makes a serious threat to harm himself or another person.
I explained confidentiality to the client verbally and visually. I handed the client a consent form and
gave him a few minutes to read through it and sign. After he read the confidentiality form the client
