Liquid Permeability of Porous Media
1.0Summary This experiment is conducted to determine the liquid permeability of porous media.
The apparatus used in the experiment is the liquid permeameter. The liquid used in this
experiment is water. Three membrane samples of different thickness (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 cm) are used
as the porous media. The determination of the permeability is carried out using elevated pressure
test. Each sample is tested for 5 times at different values of pressure gradient which are 5, 10, 15,
20 and 30 psi. In order to obtain more accurate data, ensure that the membrane samples to be test is
fixed tightly and covers the o ring of the sample chamber completely. Values of volumetric flow
rates are obtained from the apparatus itself. For pressure gradient of 5... Show more content on

The change in pressure that occurs during the flow is ∆P and the volumetric flow rate (q) is the
amount of fluid that can flow through the medium over a period of time with respect to the ∆P.
Permeability (k) is related to all the components by the Darcy s equation. Darcy s equation:
q=kA∆PµL ..... (1) The SI unit for permeability, k is m2. Permeability is also measured in Darcy,
D. 1 D is approximately 10 12m2. Factors affecting permeability are membrane solubility,
pressure, concentration and temperature of the molecules or solutes. Permeability is also
affected by size of the molecules of the fluids that passing through the medium. Darcy s equation
is valid for any Newtonian fluids and is only applicable for laminar flow. The laminar flow is
always achieved by groundwater but not always achieved by gas flows. Laminar flow can be
determined by computing the Reynolds number of the flow. Re= ρvDµ 5.0 Apparatus i. Liquid

Guts Book Report

Book Report:
Guts by: Gary Paulsen
General Information
If I could rename this book, I would probably call it Close Calls because Gary Paulsen, the main
character, has survived countless dangerous situations that should have ended with his death. The
main setting, where most of those incidents have occurred, is the woods of Minnesota and
occasionally Alaska. To me, it feels that Paulsen is just as amazed at his multiple survivals as his
readers will be. There s also a sort of pride that he seems to take in his knowledge of the potential
threats of the wilderness and also his creation of the character Brian in many ... Show more content

Without this character, it would be a completely different story. I honestly believe that one of the
reasons why this book has been so successful is because people love hearing/reading about dangerous
situations that have miraculous endings.

Blues Music Is Still Based On Emotional Pain
In the beginning of its existence, blues music was a way of expressing ones feelings that they
were not allowed to speak about in mixed company. This was music that expressed from the heart
and soul of painful experiences that continued on throughout the course of living in a divided,
unequal society. Blues music is still based on emotional pain, still the most wonderful way to
express tears and heartache in a catchy sounding musical format. This is the music that touches
people in a deeper manner and helps appease the pain that one has endured. Every blues song
produced is a symbol of past experiences of the writer of the song and its performer. This allows
each song to be uniquely impactful. Many blues songs used racial inequality as a common theme
because many black Americans were suffering from this in their daily lives. The following songs
were structured to help raise support to put an end to the racial inequality that occurred. First, we
talk about James Brown s Say it Loud ( I m Black and I m Proud) . As the title suggests, this song
is about black pride. Brown was a leader in the black community, and encouraged his people to
stand up for their rights. The 60 s were a tumultuous time for race relations in America, and this
song became an anthem for the black power movement. I feel this song is a representation of blues
music because James Brown uses this song for a more than just entertainment. He uses it as an
inspiration to help black Americans to rise out of
Wireless Security Limited ( Zsl ) Is A Home And Commercial...
Zenith Security Limited (ZSL) is a home and commercial security company founded with the
sole purpose of providing security services in Halifax. In order to continue the company s
expansion, ZSL is planning on expanding into Ontario and Quebec. Unlike atlantics Canada
where Zenith owns and operates all of its locations in the other provinces its purpose is to become
a franchiser and thus allow local entrepreneurs to purchase rights to be Zenith security provider in
their communities. In order to ease the strategic shift Paolo Santiago the sole shareholder of the
company has hired Jason Armand early in the fiscal year as the manager of the 2 provinces. Jason s
inclusion in the project has so far led to the opening of 15 franchises throughout Ontario and Quebec
during the year. Furthermore 5 locations have also been opened and are operated by the company
alone.
Issues
There are several issues associated with the company after analyzing the case. Zenith Security
Limited, as was previously mentioned expanded throughout Canada. Because the company switched
to franchising, there are issues attached to revenue recognition. The group agrees with the $225 000
cost of acquiring a franchise, however, the installments for collection poses a problem for the
company. Only $75 000 is collected within six months of signing the franchise agreement. This
leaves a bulk of the cash ($150 000) to be collected a year and half later. This is a problem
particularly because Zenith has no
Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
My favorite piece is Symphonie Fantastique by the composer Hector Berlioz. This is my favorite
piece because I love how it really tells a story through music. You can feel the emotions he puts
into every single sound. Frankly, I enjoy this the most, because it is the only orchestra song I have
listened to that I could see the picture running through my head. Therefore throughout this essay I
will show you an in depth look into the piece Symphonie Fantastique and illustrate why it is my
favorite. Hector was born in 1803 in La Cotes St Andre, a small town near the French alps. Hector
began using instruments at the age of twelve, however he was a very isolated and lonely teen. He
went to school to first become a doctor, but then he realized that was not his passion and switched to
music. Furthermore Hector Berliozbecame known as the father of modern orchestration. During the
writing of Symphonie Fantastique he was inspired very inspired by Beethoven s work and began
writing symphonies because of him. This piece was originally written when Berlioz saw an actress
in a Shakespeare play and fell in love with her. He became obsessive and wrote this to get her
attention and hopefully steal her heart.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symphony describes his obsession and dreams, tantrums and moments of tenderness, and visions
of suicide and murder, ecstasy and despair. The symphony does have a program because there s five
different movements, and they all tie into his journey to pursue the woman from the shakespeare
play. Symphonie Fantastique does not have lyrics, however they are not necessary because the story
is told through the emotions and the music in the piece. It is a romantic symphony because the form
is first movement as sonata allegro form, second movement as thematic development, third
movement as minuet trio, and fourth movement as sonata
Why Is The Upper Class Bad
In 1789, the French experienced a revolution by the peasants due to unfair tax practices. The
wealthiest 2% of the country was not getting taxed whatsoever and the other 98% of the country,
which was poor, had to support the great tax burden that had arisen due to immense spending by the
government, which was for the most part controlled completely by the top 2%.
Many aristocrats had to either flee the country or be beheaded. A similar event occurred in Russia in
1917, giving rise to a communist government that would reign for 74 years. During this time, all
wealth and property were owned by the government, causing class to vanish. Both of these events
caused great pain and suffering for the rich and wealthy, whom the peasants were mad at.
However, is the Upper Class actually bad? Why do the lower classes constantly strive to eliminate
them? One reason for this anger from the lower class is because the Upper Class has a lot of power
and influence over society despite their small numbers. Starting in 2011, a protest movement known

As Fitzgerald put it, they smash up things and creatures and retreat back into their money,
(Fitzgerald 191). Some do not pay their taxes. Others are involved in scandal and cheat money from
people. However, this does not apply to the majority of the wealthy, who are law abiding, productive
citizens. Many have built their fortunes up themselves and should not have what they have worked
so hard for be taken away from them. In short, the wealthy should be left alone.
Without the wealthy, , society would falter because the rich give a standard for us to strive for, get
things done with their broad executive power, and supply necessary capital to keep the economy
going. We need the rich to supply numerous jobs and create a system of advancement. In order to do
that, we should stop trying to tax them so much in order to redistribute wealth. The Upper Class is
unjustly attacked by the lower
How To Build A Fence Analysis
In the play Fences, everyone had their different perspective on how to build a fence. To me it is
actually not a fence. A fence i Fs either to keep someone in or to keep something out. Cory wants
to build a fence to keep his daddy in the house because he is heavily on his back about things.
Wilson said Troy says the garbage sitting in there overflowing you aint done none of your chorus .
Troy is saying that the only thing cory wants to do is play football. He wants too keep Cory in.
Wilson states, All they wants is money . Cory wants to get a scholarship to go play football in
college but his dad wants him to get a job. Lyons wants to build a fence troy with a gate to push
Troy out the house. Lyons is 34 years old and he is one of troys
Dr. Johnson s Death Of Death For The Cold Blooded Atrocity
In March 1906, Tennessee native Ed Johnson was sentenced to death for the rape of eighteen year
old Nevada Taylor. Mr. Johnson supposedly choked the victim with a leather strap and subsequently
sexually assaulted her. When testifying, the woman only had one adjective to describe the
perpetrator, a word that damned the twenty six year old to a guilty verdict; black. Although he had
never been in possession of a leather strap, had a sound alibi verified by countless testimonies, and
the rape victim never definitively identified Mr. Johnson during the trial, the all white jury came to
the conclusion that the African American man was undeniably responsible for the cold blooded
atrocity. A day later, while sitting in his cell, a mob of white men dragged Ed Johnson out of the
jailhouse, paraded him around the streets, and ultimately hanged the guiltless man at Walnut Street
Bridge. The men then began to fire round after round at his lifeless body for the amusement of
townsfolk who had gathered to watch the lynching, until, one stray bullet severed the rope, (Yellin
1). As the bloody corpse fell to the ground to the delight of the white children, one of the men put the
barrel of his gun to Mr. Johnson s head and fired five times, (Yellin 1). The men faced no charges and
nearly one hundred years later the Supreme Court found the viciously murdered man innocent.
Unfortunately, when it comes to promoting justice for non white Americans, the United States

Comparing Plant Organs And Their Nutrients
Comparing Plant Organs and their Nutrients
Abstract: In this experiment, we wanted to determine the starch and glucose content of different
plant parts including: fruits, stems, leaves, and roots. To do this, we tested a food in each of these
categories with Lugol s and Benedict s solutions after being heated in a hot water bath. The color of
each solution would then be compared to the Lugol s and benedict s indicators to determine how
much starch and glucose is in each. We believed that fruits would have the most starch and glucose
out of the plant parts because of its role in plant reproduction (seed dispersal). Through the
experiment, we discovered that the fruit does have the most glucose, but the roots have the most
starch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, there is glucose that is considered a simple sugar or a monosaccharide due to its
structure (Georgia State University). Most foods made of glucose molecules are used as sources
of energy for animals as ATP (Georgia State University). Both these sugars are in our diets, yet
they are quiet different in chemical structure and physical form. This is why a substance that
contains starch, does not always contains glucose (Shorter KR). To test for these two
carbohydrates, two different tests were developed: Lugol s and Benedict s. Lugol s indicates
whether or not a substance contains starch, and if so, how much (Shorter KR). This is determined
based on a color scale (5 different shades), from amber to a bluish black (Shorter KR). The farther
down the scale, the more starch the substance contains. Likewise, the Benedict s solution indicates
the amount of starch as the 8 color shades (light blue to dark green) progress (Shorter KR).
Hypothesis:
➢If Lugol s solution is used to test different types of plant parts, then there will be more starch in
the fruits (reproductive parts) than stems, because fruits are where seed dispersal is located which is
a process that requires sugar.
➢If Benedict s solution was added to solutions of water and plant parts, then there would be more
glucose found in the fruits rather than the stems because of the function of the fruit during seed
dispersal requires sugar which is glucose makes up.

Benoni Executive Summary
The Benoni Mine Incident is a situation that encompasses an episodic case of illegal mining that
took place in South Africa. A rescue operation was set in motion in February of 2014 at an
abandoned mine shaft near Johannesburg in attempt to rescue a number of illegal mine workers.
It was first thought they were trapped due to a rockslide, but was later revealed that a rival crew
of illegal miners had trapped them in there. In the beginning reports first suggested that there were
200 trapped and were later estimated to it actually being 30. After several miners were rescued,
word had gotten back to the rest of the miners below that they were being arrested and the remaining
illegal workers refused to leave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
South Africa s Chamber of Mines, an industry association, estimates that South Africa loses about 5%
of its potential annual mineral production to illegal mining, the los production estimates at $2 billion.
There are few machines that can do the work of a miner so it mainly dependent on human
physical labor and of course it comes with many dangerous risks. The majority of the illegal
miners make up of immigrants from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho or other central and
southern African nations that come to South Africa in hopes of hitting the jackpot or at least
make a living for their families. Some of the miners who are South African work for legit
companies in the day and at night do a little side work under the table off the books which is
illegal. One of the main causes of the increase in illegal miners is that it takes a long while to
receive a legal permit from the government to work legally, thus many of these individuals don t
have the luxury or time to wait around as they need money desperately. Mining companies in the
country face a lot of pressure globally and locally, globally stagnant or falling commodity prices, and
growing nationalism over a nation s extractive resources. The companies face an uncertain regulatory
environment, rising demands by government, potential labor unrest and shrinking margins. Local
police are normally sent out to regulate in the mining areas, but are often outnumbered and
outmatched by the heavily armed
