Theseus As A Hero
Myths contain many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary
person? Many conveys that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the
struggles of being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the
book Mythology by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require the help from others, but more
often than not, they are fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes
might easily gain credits for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a
hero. A true hero should not be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same
time, these heroes must be like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who was successful in his heroic
journey. Heros need sidekicks, whom they rely on for multiple things, but end up with all the credit;
just like how Theseus obtains all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost
all the credits for Athena s work. Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinthwhere the
Minotaur stays. She would bring about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens
and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton 207). The only reason Theseus was able to slaughter the
Minotaur and escape the maze was because of Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island.
Even if she dies because of a disease, he should have at least inform the people of Athens that she
was a huge reason for
Plate Tectonics And Its Impact On The Earth
Plate tectonics occur not only just on Earth, but on other planets in the galaxy as well, such as
Venus, Mars, and ancient Mercury. Since there are several planets in the Milky Way that have plate
tectonics, it is questionable about if size is a key factor in the likelihood of tectonics on foreign
planets. Vol canoes, mountains, ocean ridges, earthquakes, and tsunamis all would not be possible
without the movement of the Earths tectonic plates. Dependent upon heat for movement, tectonic
plates are one of the victims of Earth s active life. Since the Earth is not static in movement,
landforms are moved and shifted slowly but surely each day. It is questionable if hydration and planet
size are significant factors in the likelihood of plate tectonicson super Earths.

Tectonism is the moving and deformity of the exterior layer of a planet caused by heat loss. The
constant movement of molten lava in the planet s interior causes plate tectonics, and some planets
in modernity still have active tectonics, such as Earth, Mars, and Venus. As for Mercury and the
Moon, the two have been tectonically active in the past, but still have features on their surfaces
which exemplify plate tectonics to have once existed (USRA, 2009). Scientists are starting to study
the hypothesis that the size of a planet and the amount of water it possesses affects the likelihood of
plate tectonics on a planet, including planets like super Earths. A super Earth is a foreign planet that
is ab normally larger
A Interview With A Band 2 Mla Position At Microbiology...
On Wednesday 16th November 2016 at 09:30am, I was interviewed in Lorraine Bolton s office
(Head BMS), for a Band 2 MLA position in Microbiology department at Royal Preston Hospital.
The panel members included Dawn Dixon (Senior Band 8 Team Leader), and Caroline Stubbs
(Senior Band 7 BMS). This was my 4th interview for a Band 2 MLA position within the
Microbiology department at Royal Preston Hospital. I was initially invited to attend the interview on
Friday 11th November, but I was on annual leave on holiday abroad from Thursday 3rd November
and was due to return on Sunday 13th November. Before I went on holiday, on Wednesday 2nd
November I enquired about the interview date with Joan Bibby (Vacancy Administrator) who
mentioned that she is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I immediately contacted Helen Williams (UNISON representative) and Paul Wilkinson (Band 8
Manager) via my personal Email and notified her of my situation, and how desperate I am not to
miss out on this opportunity. I also mentioned how I am fully trained on all the benches in
Virology, and feel more than competent to undertake this job role. On several occasions, I have
received positive feedback from my Senior Colleagues and Manger Paul Wilkinson with regards to
my practical laboratory work.
On the day of my interview, I was anxious because of the contact I made with UNISON to re
arrange the interview date for me. On the conclusion of the interview, I was asked whether I have
any problems working during the hours of 8am till 8pm. I replied absolutely not. Dawn further
investigated asking if I previously volunteered to work those hours. She then exclaimed that
someone has told them I cannot work those hours. I then explained that there was one occasion
where I was asked whether I can come in at 08:00am till 16:30pm, but due to my ill health I was not
able to do so. My normal working hours were 9:30am till 6pm.
The incident I was referred to in the interview occurred back in September where my Line
Manager Louise asked me if I could come into work Early on the 27th and 29th of September. This
was immediately after I returned to work from being off due to sickness, where I was only just
recovering from a
Christian Moral Vision Of Communication
4.4.3. Moral Vision of Communication
Christian moral vision of communication one is standing in the field of moral theology looking at
the horizon of communication. Accordingly, the focus of a Christian moral vision of communication
is twofold. It addresses the moral dimensions of communication practise and policy making within
the Church; and it addresses the ethical issues affecting human communications in general. That
communication is a basic human right and, as such, the Christian seeks to establish a pattern of
communication in which the free, creative expressions of the person is recognised, respected and
invited. It is recognition that every person is an active participant in building a culture. In this
instance, the Christian Churches
The Wild Things Are By Maurice Sendak
Over the course of Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, Max, the protagonist, displays
in many ways that he is influenced by his mother. The story begins with Max misbehaving in a
wolf suit and getting punished by her for it. After being sent to his room, his mind conjured a
place where he could experience what it s like to be in control. Max himself is a wild thing, and
when he arrives at the island with the other wild things, he wants to understand why he was
punished so he tames them. Max is made king by the wild things and then uses his newfound
authority to punish them when all they did was obeyed his order to party . Max starts to regret
his decision to leave home when he starts feeling lonely after having banished the wild things, and
returns home to his mother. The narrator of Sendak s Where the Wild Things Are starts by
telling the reader about the consequences Max faces from misbehaving. Sendak writes the
following, Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind and another and his mother
called him WILD THING! and Max said I LL EAT YOU UP (line 1). This implies that Max doesn t
feel that he himself can make mischief , he feels he has to put on a mask to do so. If he wants to
express himself or release stress, he has to be someone or something else, so as to not disappoint
his mother. When his mother calls him WILD THING! he embraces this persona she s given him
by saying I LL EAT YOU UP! . She then decides to send him to bed hungry after
Television vs. Reality
It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network s
primetime hit Ally McBeal . Suddenly, just after the program resumes after a painstakingly long
commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a
night of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the
floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3,
CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called Some of My Best Friends . Almost immediately
after you and your familybegin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin
kissing and embracing each other. Upset by all of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive
relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to
leave. In reality, most people like to believe that sex is a sign of love and, although there are also
many exceptions to this rule, many still try and live by it. Today there are also many fears about
AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases being spread. The characters on Friends seem to be
completely immune and ignorant of sexually transmitted diseases while having sex with many
different partners. Finally, another aspect that is falsely portrayed in this show is homosexuality. It
seems that almost everywhere the main characters go there are homosexuals that are either hanging
around the main characters or are attracted to them. In reality, the homosexual population only makes
up around 10 12% of the U.S. population, so it would be unlikely that the main characters would run
into that many homosexuals in the small areas where they live.

The next show that I have researched is the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond . Even
though this show falls into the same category as Friends , the shows are very different. One
difference is that the main character in Everybody Loves Raymond is married. On Friends , all of
the main characters are single, and they have sexual relations more frequently. Everybody Loves
Raymond does not present as much sex as most sitcoms
Being Small Research Paper
Being small is a blessing in disguise. As John Wooden once said, It s not how big you are, it s how
big you play John won ten NCAA basketball championships in twelve years and is considered the
best coach in NCAA basketball history. Because I am small and play sports, I have learned a very
valuable lesson about hard work. I have never been tall or even average height. The average height
is around 5 5 and I am 4 11 . I am at a bigger disadvantage in sports where the average height is 5 8 .
This puts me at an extreme disadvantage. But out of this disadvantage I learned that if I work
hard anything is possible. I learned my lesson in 3rd grade when I was still very small for my age. I
tried out for the basketballtravel team and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But just like basketball I am super small and not the strongest. The main reason I made the team
was because only about 8 kids tried out and we had to find kids to come play with us. I realized
fast that baseball would be hard and challenging. I had to be either a lead off hitter or the last guy
in the order because I couldn t hit the ball hard enough to be a power hitter. I also had to work
harder in the field because I couldn t throw the ball nearly as far or hard as most kids. This was a
big challenge for me that I had to overcome. So I started working, I also wanted to be a pitcher
too, so I had to learn how to do that as well. I would throw on one day the next day would be
hitting then the last day was pitching. Throwing, hitting, pitching, over and over again for the
last month and half of summer. Then by the end of summer I had the skills necessary to compete
with the larger kids my age and have a chance to play the positions I wanted in catcher and
shortstop. This made me extremely happy, but our record did not. We only won 6 out of about
30 games. The next year we were better and we continued to improve as a team every year and we
are now winning about 66% of our games. This has taught me that hard work by myself and as a
team can greatly change how well we do with
Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Humans live and develop in societies with rules, order and government, but humans are not
perfect, they have many deficiencies so do the societies they live in. When a group of schoolboys
land on a tropical island, Ralph takes on the role of leader by bringing all of the boys together and
organizing them. He first explains There aren t any grownups. We shall have to look after
ourselves. (p.33), this brings up the question if the boys will have prosperity or will they succumb
to the evil on the island. At first the young boys start being successful and civilized but chaos soon
overruns them and evil starts to lurk over the island. William Goldings effective use of symbolism
helps emphasize and tie together the relationship between the evil in society and in humannature. The
fictional story of the group of British schoolboys stranded on an island and the decisions they
make, relates back to our society and the decisions we might make in a difficult situation. Lord of
The Flies is Golding s attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature.
The use of symbols in the novel to represent the flaws of human nature, helps create this theme. The
conch is one of the main objects the boys use and has a very strong evolution throughout the novel.
Likewise, painted faces are used as a method to show the change in human nature throughout a long
period of time. Another object that is persistent throughout the novel are Piggy s glasses, they are

Essay On Gatsby And Janie
Social Mobility For Gatsby vs Janie Upon first glance, Gatsby from Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby, and Janie from Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God seem very different. Gatsby a
wealthy white man seemingly has all the ability in the world to gain money and status. Whereas
Janie appears to have very little social mobility, as she is a black woman living in the South.
However, upon closer inspection it is clear that they have similar hopes and dreams, and that
within their communities, their ability to move up is different than how it appears. Janie can
easily move up since her money and light skin is all she needs to gain respect, and Gatsby struggles
to really gain status since he faces the barrier of being new money vs old... Show more content on

They both experience a feeling of separation from their communities, due to envy in Janie s case,
and for Gatsby a social hierarchy. Gatsby is compelled to move up and achieve his dreams, even
though he is judged for how he does it, Certainly not for a common swindler who d have to steal
the ring he put on her finger, (Fitzgerald, pg 140). Janie, however, is pressured to pick between
survival through wealth, or true happiness. She has a lot more pressure to move up, from her
family, and because she has light skin and is seen as a rare beauty. It is almost seen as a crime for
her not to try and gain status and not separate herself: A can t stand em mahself. Nother thing, I
hates tuh see folks lak me and you mixed up wid em. Us oughta class off, (Hurston, pg 141). On
the other hand, Gatsby s attempts to become financially and socially equal to his neighbors are
frowned upon and seen as misguided and disrespectful. They are both judged for pursuing their
happiness, in opposite ways. Though they come from very different worlds, Janie and Gatsby both
stand out as wealthy. They have been lucky enough to move up to this position of wealth while
others are stuck in poverty. Janie especially has a comfortable lifestyle, which though it is humble,
is the envy of others. Gatsby seems to have immeasurable wealth, but he is still often looked down
upon and judged, facing a social

Conformity And Nonconformity In SophoclesAntigone
The pressure to conform to society s expectations has always been prevalent throughout history.
Conformity is uncontroversial, while nonconformity is seen as detrimental to the rules that society
imposes. In Antigone, the playwright, Sophocles, discusses how the choice to conform or not to
conform can have an impact on one s decisions. He utilizes the controversy surrounding the central
conflict of the play, the death of Polyneices, to portray his characters attitudes towards conformity
and nonconformity. Creon and Ismene are conformists because they believe in the absolute power of
the law; whereas, Antigone is a nonconformist because she rebels against society s rules. Creon s
conformity is apparent through the way in which he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when arguing with Antigone about Polyneices burial, Ismene argues that the law is
strong and they must give in to the law (Pro. 49 50). She views the law as something that must not
be violated, regardless of the circumstances. Ismene s conformity is evident through her refusal to
question the rules set in place by the authority. She is also incapable of making her own decisions.
Ismene will plead guilty to Creon only if Antigone will let [Ismene] say that she is guilty (1.147).
She is constantly seeking approval from others, and wants nothing more than to fit in with the
majority. Even though Ismene was not present during Polyneices burial, she still conforms because
of her desire to conform to the desires of others. In Noam Shpancer s essay You Are A Conformist,
That Is, You Are Human, Shpancer claims that conformity is inevitable for some people. He
explains how conformity is a part of our hardware, facilitating our survival and bringing us
comfort. (Shpancer). Ismene s desire for conformity is directly related her survival. She refuses to
defy the law or form her own opinions because she wants acceptance and comfort. While Ismene
does not actively try to conform, it comes naturally to her, and she subconsciously adheres to the
rules of society. Antigone s disregard of the law displays her nonconformity. She is stubborn about
her decision to bury Polyneices. When Ismene
Essay about Of Miracles by David Hume
Of Miracles by David Hume

In David Hume?s paper ?Of Miracles,? Hume presents a various number of arguments concerning
why people ought not to believe in any miracles. Hume does not think that miracles do not exist it is
just that we should not believe in them because they have no rational background. One of his
arguments is just by definition miracles are unbelievable. And have no rational means in believing
miracles. Another argument is that most miracles tend to come from uncivilized countries and the
witnesses typically have conflicts of interest and counterdict each others experiences. Both of these
arguments are valid however they tend to be weak. I think that Hume?s strongest argument is that he
claims there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This argument is seen by society to be far fetched, because most people have a certain belief in a
certain religion and have somewhat a belief in miracles, but Hume has a good argument. He says
that people should not believe in religions that are based on miracles because they have no
credibility. Miracles themselves are thought to have weak credibility because the majority of the
people in the society think that they are false. However there are many people that believe in
miracles in one way or another. Either directly or indirectly. If you affiliate yourself with a
religion that is based on miracles then you are indirectly a believer in miracles. This is what Hume
would think and also he would say that you should not believe in the miracles because they are the
basis of your religion and have no credibility due to the fact that the religion is trying to destroy
another religion and their miracles.

Even though Hume has a good argument, one could make an argument that Hume is wrongly
saying that we ought not to believe in religions based on miracles. Religion is a major part of
society. The majority of the world has faith in a religion and it thought to believe in miracles. Also
religion has helped the world grow to where it is today and if Hume says that we should not have
even believed in religion, then society would not have grown and developed into various
civilizations. Religion brings mass amount of people together, and most of the time they
The Between Panopticon And The Schooling System Essay
From the concrete walls, the schematics of Architecture and even the way that we are taught, school
can remind us of a type of prison. We are taught by repetition and to regurgitate information rather
than actually go in depth to understand the topic. We are ready to absorb information and not
question said info. We are like fishes swimming in a bowl, unable to comprehend what exists
outside of our own sphere of learning. In an essay written by Foucault, he talks about the idea of the
Panopticon. When reading his essay, it becomes clear there are striking similarities between the
Panopticon and the schooling system. It is my intent to show how both the schooling system and the
Panopticon strip Individuality away because of mechanical teaching. This will be conveyed by
showing the comparisons of the Panopticon and the schooling system through the topics of how
describing the similarity of the two locations and lead into the course of Surveillanceon both
subjects. I will then lead into the topic of Discipline shaping behavior and will finalize with
discussing how the general architecture of schools and the Panopticon are similar.
The schooling system often teaches a rather mechanical approach to learning as we are placed in a
situation where learning is forced and a requirement to get through society s means of, a future for
ourselves and to be part of a respected status quo. Surely the idea of graduating from an institution of
knowledge does have many benefits
