An Argument for Design

Intelligent Design
October 27, 2013
Take a moment to think about the world around you and all of its beauty. From the ever flowing
Mississippi River, to the ledges of the mighty Grand Canyon, or even to the peak of Mt. Fuji there
is an immense amount of things on this Earth that are so incredible it is hard to believe science and
chance created these magnificent things. So what is the best explanation for these occurrences? I
believe that these occurrences scream of an intelligent designer which also leads us to the existence
of God. First I must explain what an argument for design is and then we will look at Paley s
Watchmaker Theory to give us better insight on this argument. Then I will point ... Show more

Stafford Betty and Bruce Cordell states that because it is so unlikely that our universe was randomly
generated, there must have been an intelligent designer. Betty and Cordell point to the calculations
of many renowned scientist to show that our unique universe could not have existed if the slightest
detail were any different than the way it is now. They state, At this point we must ask ourselves
what is easier to imagine and thus to believe; that the cosmos entire history should have arisen from
this self creating and self explaining surd; or that a pre existing mind and power of vast magnitude
should have created the ingredients of the universe and triggered it at the Big Bang? The second
alternative seems a little bit more likely... (Betty and Cordell 223). This argument goes off of
inference of the best explanation in the sense that logically it makes more sense and easier to
believe that an intelligent designer created the universe rather than a random explosion of matter
that started to expand and our universe was formed. This point also creates an objection though,
where did God come from and how did he create everything ex nihilo, or out of nothing. The theist
should properly respond to this objection by pointing to the definition of God, a wholly good and
omnipotent being. So by our human perspective God or the intelligent designer should not be able
to create himself, but remember by omnipotent he can do all, for he is all powerful so there is
Middle Class In America
The United States is the richest country on Earth. Free market advocates promise this prosperity to
span over all socio economic classes, but it simply has not. The American middle class prosperity is
a fantasy. Like my family, many middle class Americans are facing massive inequality, jobs losses,
and a continuous increase in the amount of debt accrued. While the United Statesis home to the most
billionaires and millionaires in the world, the wealth of our middle classis ranked 27th globally. For
decades their have been a series of economic and societal transformations leading up to the
development of the middle class and the turmoil it has left families in, such as my own. The
emergence of the middle class occurred with the rise of corporate... Show more content on

Reagan s plan was to raise interest rates to fight staglfation. Paul Volcker, Chairman of the Federal
Reserve at this time, implemented the Volcker Shock in 1978 by raising interest rates to 21%,
which, reduced family income by 10% and increased the unemployment rate. A second
component of Reagan s policies were focused on the idea that if the government gave more
money to the already rich, it would stimulate economic growth because they would invest it in
productive capacity. Reagan managed to cut the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%. Instead
of improving all classes of the economy, the working class suffered another recession, leading to a
greater disparity of wealth. With the massive hike in unemployment rates, the job market is still
recovering today. Although more jobs are being added every year, it still remains incredibly
competitive. Due to the scarcity of positions, young adults, as myself, are having to compete not
only against older, more experienced Americans, but also international competitors. We, as a
generation, are having to extend our education until early 30 s; This phenomenon has been called
delayed onset adulthood, where instead of taking out loans for a four year college education, if we
want to pose as a serious competitive candidate for a job, our loans will extend to graduate school,
or some other form of continued education. With the debt my
Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers
Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in
the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns,
were well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the
transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement.
Unfortunately, the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours,
risky industrial tools, and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty,
violence, greed, racism, class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering
good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian Howard
Zinn, the Progressives worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst defects. 2and
restore some measure of class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between capital and
labor (Zinn 354). The progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were incapable to
make significant changes and improve the labors of the working class.
The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals.
The social in America was not favorable for the vast majority of tenant farmers, factory workers,
slum dwellers, miners, farm laborers, working men and women, black and white. Robert Wiebe sees
in the Progressive movement an attempt by the system to adjust to
Sexual Videos On Children s Programming Essay
Sexual Referencing in Children s Programming Children s programming is beginning to raise a
concern among many parents due to sexual content being involved along with other touchy subjects
like violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. Due to the recent technological advancements,
children s media exposure has increased causing more children to be bombarded with shows
featuring sexual innuendos, activity or adult subtext. Not only is the sexual content being included
frequently in programming, children are facing the content in advertisements as well. An example of
this is the advertisement poster for The Lion King. The film poster features the face of Simba in
which many analyzers and parents are pointing out the nose and between the eyes looks like the butt
of a naked woman creating a sexual image children could pick up on (Citation). Sexual content in the
programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching and
understanding what is going on in the show or film. While parents have a concern about sexual
content being included into programming for children, positive effects should be noticed along with
the negative effects being discussed. Much of the sexual content goes unnoticed due to the small
hidden images in art or subliminal messages and sexual innuendos. Due to many children being
unaware of the effects of media and the content involved, parents should become informed about the
types of content in programming, the effects of

The Argument For Marijuana Legalization In Canada
The Liberal government of Canada is bringing up the issue with marijuana legalization this spring.
The proposition of the legalization has its supporters and opponents that make that change difficult
to implement in the Canadian society. The statistics have shown that most Canadians are expecting
this changes (Spithoff, 2015). The new legislation will allow legally sell, possess and consume
cannabiswithout any legal implications. The aim of this paper is to examine the proposition for
marijuana legalization from different sides of the debate and to identify the best possible solution
to the issue. Policies at federal and provincial levels of the government will be analyzed with the
support of the research evidence. The words cannabis and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Individualism In Mary Shelley s...
Common rules create common fools. A society where everyone acted the same, abiding identically
by some universal principles seems immediately enticing. It would be a world of no crime, where
every individual acted in exactly the way that maximized pleasure for every other individual. In
short, it would be a perfect utilitarian state. Yet, such a society would be rigid and boring, lacking all
the qualities of unbounded life. Beauty comes from tragedy. Meaning is derived from misfortune.
Some argue that happiness itself cannot truly exist without its counterpart, misery. Without uniquely
acting individuals, life is meaningless. Mary Shelley would certainly have agreed with this
statement. Indeed, in her novel Frankenstein, Shelley recognizes... Show more content on

Heavenly is of course the same in both quotations to illustrate how similarly beautiful Shelley
considers both nature and Elizabeth. In contrast to Victor, who changes passions, loyalties, and
opinions quite often, Elizabeth is perpetually dedicated to her role and the uniqueness of her
personality. She embraces her role as the mother figure, as the comforter, and as the source of
respite. Throughout the novel, characters are considered beautiful and good when they are honest
to their true character and ugly and evil when they are not, in accordance with Shelley s
Romantic definition of beauty as defined by dedication to individualism. Even the monster is at
times not considered ugly at times due to this definition of beauty. The most evil creature in all
the world, according to Victor, is his creation, the insect that diabolically (104) killed his kin.
While Victor does of course have reason to be upset with his creation at the point in the novel from
which this quotation is extracted, he had formed his opinion of the monster s character far before.
Just hours after the creature comes to life, Victor refers to it as a thing such as even Dante could not
have conceived (60). The religious form of his descriptions continues as he calls the creature not

Fluoridation it is when Fluoride is put into the water system. In this context, it is worth noting that
dental health remains a major issue for much of the New Zealand population, and that economically

promoting dental public health. Community water fluoridation is a safe and effective way of

The intake of fluoride in excess can contribute to health issue known as fluorosis, which could be
unethical due to adverse effects Severe cases can be caused by exposure to water that is naturally
fluoridated to levels well above the recommended levels, or by exposure to other fluoride sources
such as brick tea or pollution from high fluoride coal. On the other hand, however it can cause
negative effects such as tumour, thyroid damage, bone issues and effects to the mental wellbeing.
Fluoride has been shown to be toxic and affects the brain and kidney when ingested. Rats fed for
one year with 1 ppm fluoride in their water, using either sodium fluoride or aluminium fluoride, had
morphological changes to their kidneys and brains, an increased uptake of aluminium in the brain,
and the formation of beta amyloid deposits which are characteristic of Alzheimer s disease. Fluoride
allows aluminium a heavy metal to cross the blood brain barrier which can therefore cause these

Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development
Background
Take a look at two children who are between the ages of four and ten years old. Neither of those
children would observe nor solve a problem or situation the exact same way. This is because of the
four cognitive development stages. Each stage signifies a certain level of development and
understanding based on the age of a child. Jean Piaget is a scientist and philosopher who eventually
created the cognitive development theories. Piaget s first intellectual interest were the study of
nature and epistemology. These interests shaped his views of cognitive development (Ed Psych
Modules, 2012, p. 119). Cognitive Development is defined as a development in a child s perceptual
skill, language learning, information processing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Object performance is what a child will develop throughout this stage. This is the awareness that
things do exist even though they cannot be seen at some point in time. Learning object
performance is crucial for the next stage, pre operational. For example, if there is a teddy bear
placed in front of a child and it is taken away while they are not looking, the child will not look for
it because he cannot see it. Some might would call this out of sight, out of mind . Once the child
understands object performance, they will try to search for their hidden bear because of their new
capabilities. The sensorimotor stage can be divided into six separate sub stages that reflect the area
of development in reference to a new skill. The six stages are as follows: Reflexes, Primary circular
reactions, Secondary circular reactions, coordination of reactions, tertiary circular reactions, and
early representational thought. In regards to the reflex stage, one could say that this starts in the
womb rather than at zero months. In this stage the child interacts with his/her surrounding strictly
with natural born processes such as sucking and looking. The slight turning of body. At that age they
understand that their body requires movement and they carry out that task. During the primary
circular reaction stage the child carries over attributes from the reflexes stage and progresses them.
Imagine a child sucking his/her thumb and then repeats the action later purposefully because
