Statement of Purpose from Homeless to Student Essay
Visualize living in a beautiful 4 bedroom home near the mountains. Now, imagine the transition to
living in a car. Eventually you will shift from receiving government assistance to attending graduate
school while working for the federal government. That is a snapshot of my life. Life has thrown me
lemons, and I have done my best to make the sweetest lemonade. I have sustained employment since
my senior year of high school, and have maintained above a 3.0 throughout my collegiate career.
The roughest period was the 2007 2008 school year when I lost an uncle, grandmother, and best
friend during a five month period. Nevertheless, my experiences never deterred me from achieving
my dreams. I want to support children and families potentially... Show more content on

In Cults and Nonreligious Movements I explored allegations of cults and sexual abuse focusing
on women and children. Unlike other students, I decided to take a controversial stance and
defend those groups facing allegations. I developed a plan of action on how to handle
controversial cults and nonreligious movements in a school and professional setting. During my
teacher preparation program, I completed an internship in a public school. I decided to select a
school with high risk students. I had the task of working with 200+ students on a daily basis.
During the last week of my internship I had an epiphany: you have to get out of the classroom. This
is not the way you want to reach children and families. The answer is a career in Human
Development and Family Studies.
I spent my early adolescence in a military family, and have fond memories of services provided by

The Differences Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jeffersons
Like many in their time, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were friends and on the same
side to absolve colonial ties with Great Britain. But once the war was over and independence was
documented in the Treaty of Paris, the new business of creating a new nation was at hand. During
this time, it became apparent that those who shared the same side during the revolution would now
find themselves at odds with one another. Both men had visions and desires for the new nation.
However, nearly one hundred years later and following the civil war, one vision in particular, was
closer to reality than the other. Both of these men were fundamental in the birth of this nation, but
their views on government, economics, and politics differ substantially. Economically speaking,
Hamilton wanted a growing and thriving society based on trade and large manufacturing companies.
In contrast, Jefferson envisioned a society that was based mainly on the presence of many small
farmers. Jefferson particularly did not want large amounts of manufacturing to be done in the US.
He argued that manufactured goods could be imported from Europe, while the US could remain
primarily agrarian. During the Reconstruction period, the South went through a major reconstruction
and rebuilding phase. Although farming was still a large part of the economy, large manufacturing
facilities emerged as well. The increase in large manufacturing facilities and international trade
mirrored the vision of Hamilton much more so than Jefferson s. Jefferson and Hamilton differed
widely in their views of politics and the structure of society. Jefferson envisioned an egalitarian
country vs Hamilton s aspirations of a more stratified society. Jefferson wanted pure equality for
everyone regardless of social, economic, or background. In contrast, Hamilton wanted a growing
manufacturing society were owners of factories and large industries were politically more powerful
than the people that worked for them. Although the Reconstruction was designed to create a perfect
equal rights society, other than freeing the slaves, it failed miserably and was unlike Jefferson s
vision of an egalitarian society. Although the slaves were free, they still didn t receive equal
Toyota Crisis Management
Toyota Crisis: Management Ignorance?

Abstract
Since the late 2009, the famous vehicle manufacture Toyota has suffered a severe crisis due to
unintended quality problems in its cars which had triggered Toyota s largest officially recalls of its

well as the brand image built up over time. This study aims to elaborate on the Toyota crisis in

So far, America has become Toyota s largest market, where Toyota is rank as one of the top selling
brands (Toyota USA website).
CONCLUSION
Since the late 2009, the famous vehicle manufacture Toyota has suffered a severe crisis due to
unintended quality problems in its cars. This had triggered Toyota s largest officially recalls of
nearly 9 million vehicles all over the world. This crisis has threatened the company s previous
reputation of building good quality and reliable cars, as well as damaging its brand image built up
over time. The managerial decisions taken by Toyota to deal with the crisis is considered as a key
issue to retrieve the former reputation, and to recover the trust and image held by the customers.
This study aims to elaborate on the Toyota crisis in order to understand why Toyota faces this crisis
and how Toyota deals with the crisis, and investigate Swedish consumers perceptions of Toyota
brand as the outcome of the crisis. The findings indicated that:
(1) Although there were external powers such as mass media that forced Toyota working even
harder on the crisis, it was Toyota itself that asks for most of its own misfortunes when they lost
quality focus in the rapid global expansion and failed to effectively
Commuter Trains In The 1800 s
Trains developed in the early 1800 s. Because of railroads, commuter trains became an important of
the american history. Commuter train is also known as suburban train. Commuter trains help
transport people from places to places. Many people use the commuter trains in their everyday live.
It also created a change in the industry, and allowed humans to expand. The train became a way
where people transportgoods and resources in matter of days instead of months. As centuries goes on
and with the advancement in technology, commuter trains have evolved into more efficient and
significant part of people s live.
The first trains were called locomotives. It was a steam engine train created by Matthew Murray. It
is a simple and slow train, but still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of right now, scientists are coming up new advance projects to power, and will help add
intelligence to the transportation system. The advancement will help decrease carbon dioxide
emissions, traffic delays, and the cost. This will also make commuting and travel more efficient.
The cost will be lower due to not building railroad tracks. The traffic will decrease due to the
various sensors to guide the trains on the road. It will make commuting and travel more efficient
because the units can detach and going different directions. Another resource scientist might use is
magnetic levitation(maglev). To create a maglev at high speeds of travel, the train needs to run off
of electro magnetism. Also the train need a strong enough force and large enough electrical power
Fashion Design Piracy Essay
One of the biggest driving forces in the fashion industry nowadays is the continuous introduction of
new trends and the opportunity for designers to display their creativity. So, when that individuality
is stolen or copied from a designer, it can produce uneasy consequences. Known as design piracy ,
this widespread reproduction of designs has actually been around for decades. Not much has been
done at a federal level to prevent the moral and economic repercussions that stem from it. However,
despite the fact that designers lose both independent recognition and profit for their work, in the long
run, fashionpiracy actually helps grow the industry by swiftly moving styles through society to make
way for the next line of innovative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically, these factories are located outside of the United States, and with cheap and readily
available labor, the knockoff designs can be created in a matter of hours and shipped to stores
months before the original version. These companies are able to replicate the original designs
almost perfectly, and for much less money, as well. In turn, chain retailers like Bloomingdale s,
Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21 then purchase hundreds of these clothes and promptly sell them
to consumers way before the original designs even have a chance to make their debut (Wilson).
The biggest problem with this is that fashion design is an art form in itself, and with duplicates, the
creative and original credit of the designers are lost. American consumers can no longer tell what
garments in a store are original and which have been duplicated ( Stop Fashion Design Piracy ).
From a moral perspective, this is essentially burying the recognition that independent designers
deserve for their work.
In addition, the widespread financial gap between the costs of production of originals and
knockoffs causes design piracy to have some economic ramifications. Because the knockoff
designs are manufactured at lower costs, they tend to sell for much less; for example, a replicate
might sell for up to one third the price of the original design (Wilson). This lowered price, combined
with the fact that the copied design would hit store shelves first, causes consumers to deviate more
Anthem Essay
Anthem Essay

As one reads Ayn Rand s significant quotes from the story of anthem, there is always a main theme
that is trying to escape, just as Prometheus escaped in her story. All three of the listed quotes work as
a trio to sing that We; as society, works to defeat individuality. The quotes emphasize that we cannot
survive without individualism and being alone brings out our unique personalities. It is true that all
the quotes work as one, but at the same time they have their own individualism. Each quote holds a
purpose of its own and the author wants to express the quote to each persons understanding.
Rand s quote, The word We ... crushes all beneath it, and that which is ... Show more content on

When he makes himself happy he feels as if he has completed his mission in life. My happiness
needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. This
quote is Prometheus statement to society that he does not care about making everyone better, but
that he cares for each person to individually improve themselves. Prometheus wants every person to
find the happiness within themselves.
I think. I am. I will. A quote by Ayn Rand that is similar to Rene Descartes quote, I think therefore
I am. This quote tells society that Prometheus can do anything by himself. He does not need the
we of society to complete a task. Prometheus can think independently and wants to express himself
as one individual. I will, illustrates that he will and can do anything. Prometheus believes, just as
Rene Descartes does, that if he can think by himself, he is able to live by himself. As he is alone
he is thinking by himself, therefore he is alive and able to express himself as he truly is.
The main quotes of Anthem were written with a real purpose. Ayn Rand had the mission to write
these significant quotes so that each person would make their own meaning out of them. Rand
longed for someone to allow their individualism to bring these quotes to life with these quotes, do
not listen to what theme society has placed
Summary Of Appiah s Death Of The Duel
In the first half of Death of the Duel, Appiah begins by providing the details of a duel between
two prominent British government officials, using the specific example as a jumping point to
discuss the general idea of dueling. The form of honor being represented in this case is that of
reputation and the maintenance of regard from the general public. This concept of honor as a form
of social standing is interesting because it subverts Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs and many other
psychological theories that try to map out human instinct which places safety and security in higher
regard than it does esteem or ego. In the case of the duel, honor is considered the highest human
need, even above life itself if one considers the death toll, although that mainly applies to the
aristocratic class, who had most of their basic needs taken care of already. In the case of dueling, the
society at the time seemed to conflate the ideas of respect and honor, assuming that the characteristic
of honorability automatically entitled one to respect from peers and lower classes. Appiah, however,
distinguishes the two by noting that honor is the individual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While Appiah believes there is only pride in doing things out of the ordinary, I believe that it also
takes courage and honor to follow honor codes in everyday circumstances. Being honorable is
difficult sin a world where honorable behavior, contrary to Appiah s belief, is not actually standard
behavior. For example, a student witnesses two bullies harassing another student and steps in to stop
them. While this might be fairly standard honorable behavior, that does not mean the student
shouldn t feel proud of their actions and the courage they took. The pride doesn t detract from the
previously honorable actions. In his argument, Appiah seems to conflate the idea of pride personal
satisfaction with vanity and the need to boost reputation, which I hold to be two separate
Satire In American Beauty
American Beauty is an American satirical drama directed by Sam Mendes. It was first released
in late 1999 and won many awards, among them five Academy Awards in 2000. The movie
depicts the life of Lester and Carolyn Burnham played by Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening.
Lester, a 42 year old magazine writer and advertising executive, and Carolyn, an ambitious real
estate agent, reside in an unidentified, well to do American suburb together with their teenage
daughter Jane. This essay seeks to examine how suburbia affects these two main characters.
Viewed from the outside, Lester and Carolyn seem to have it all: A child, a spacious home with a
well kept front yard located in a nice suburban neighborhood, and two well paid jobs to provide for

Lester s voice over accompanying the scene states: Look at me, jerking off in the shower. This will
be the high point of my day. It s all downhill from here (American Beauty). A bit later one can see
Lester wearing a gray suit and sleeping in the back of his wife s car while she is driving him to
work, and his voice over states: Both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser, and...
they re right. I have lost something. I m not exactly sure what it is, but I know I didn t always
feel this... sedated (American Beauty). The gray suit he is wearing can be seen to exemplify the
gray monotony of his every day life, and his sleeping on his way to work as evidence that his work
is not exciting or fulfilling either. The next scene, which actually shows Lester at his workstation,
demonstrates that his job is, in fact, boring and monotonous: Lester is depicted sitting in a neutral
gray beige cubicle that is surrounded by various other gray beige cubicles and people indistinctly
looking at their computers or speaking into headset phones. Moreover, the white artificial light on
the ceiling makes the entire office appear cool and
The Causes Of Catherine De Medici
Interesting ... Still, these Huguenot gatherings must be curtailed somehow. Calvin does not rule
here. Then do it gently. Calvin does not rule here, and neither should the cardinal. Catherine de
Medici. Catherine de Medici was a vicious and ruthless rulers who was motivated by fear and fear of
losing control. She wanted to preserve her power and she did that by being Catholic and
persecution against those who were not. Directly by her orders, she killed her religious opposition
.Some people say that religious war are caused by the general spirit of intolerance; but in the late
1500 s to the mid 1600 s, power hungry leaders and people in positions of power were the true cause
of religious wars. Three people from this period who all really exemplify this war mongering
leadership style were Catherine de Medici, the Duke of Guise and King Philip II of Spain. In the
following paragraphs, it will be explained how and what wars these leaders started.
Catherine de Medici as shown by the quote in the introduction that she was very willing to kill
people of other religions to maintain her powerful position. In France, Catholicism was the
dominant religion and Catherine used that to persecute other dominant groups, like Protestants, and
preserve her own power. Even when she was seemly trying to help other groups is was a secret
plo. On example was her Edict of January. In 1562, as regent Catherine passed the Edict of January,
which granted more right for Huguenot seemly to help
Compare And Contrast John Brown And Timothy Mcveigh
Timothy McVeigh committed the most deadly act of domestic terrorism in United States history. His
actions resulted in both outrage and fascination, and lead to significant inquiry into why he did what
he did. Many at the time, already scared by the rising trends of Jihadist terrorism felt that McVeigh s
actions were in large part something new, something atypical to the American experience. However,
such was not the case. Terrorismhas been prevalent throughout American history and tied to various
trends and movements, including abolitionism. Ultimately John Brown and Timothy McVeighhave
striking similarities, such as the presence of their action outside of the more established and
organized groups of their respective movements and the media... Show more content on

Although he did not get to see it in his lifetime, John Brown s polarizing effect on the North and
South helped encourage the outbreak of the Civil War, which would determine once and for all the
fate of slavery. This, however, is not the case when it comes to McVeigh. When the Oklahoma City
bombing is discussed, ideas regarding McVeigh s views were much more likely to be pushed to the
side. Some of this could potentially be a result of attempts of people who could be potentially
associated with McVeigh and his ideals (whether they be right wingers, verterans, etc.) to distance
themselves from the event. This is perhaps best shown through examples of veterans insisting upon
the wretchedness of McVeigh s actions. Such a distancing attempt, however, was also visible during
John Brown s time. As mentioned in Thoreau s piece, many contemporary abolitionists attempted to
distance themselves and their abolition movement from John Brown. Thus, the distance must result
from a different cause. This cause is most likely the media. Although both John Brown and Timothy
McVeigh had their actions highly publicized, only John Brown s was done so in the context of the
largest movement on people s minds at the time: abolitionism. Although right wing terror certainly
was a fear for a short few, it was not what Americans were
A Beautiful Young Woman Steps Down From The Horse Drawn...
A beautiful young woman steps down from the horse drawn carriage, one foot touching down onto
the rough ground outside her second home. As she looks around, she cannot help soaking in all
the wonderful scenery surrounding her. The fabulously large trees too tall to climb perfectly
blanketing the hillside in the distance. The sky clear, blue and bright with a few lingering
perfectly formed cotton clouds. The trees just starting to turn from their deep green to shades of
orange, yellow and brown. The grazing grass that surrounds still the brightest shade of green
imaginable. There are many at this entrance of the castle, standing tall and at attention to welcome
this young woman home. She feels as though she has been absent for too long. Everyone looks so
different, and she feels they must think the same of her. She was just a young lady of thirteen when
she was sent away in hiding, but now she is seventeen and has matured into a young woman. She
moves slowly taking her first few steps, and approaches the handsome young man in front of her.
Their eyes connect with one another, and the connection is not to be broken despite every distraction
surrounding the two. They are both remembering their younger days. The days of a boy meeting a
girl. The days of holding hands as they ran up and down these grounds just for play. The days of so
much laughter, games, and unconditional affection. Oh how they had missed each other s company,
and both feel the calm on their

How To Food Insecurity
Tyler Brown Ms. Leggett English Language Arts 10 14 December 2016 The Solution to Food
Insecurity
Many Americans struggle with food security every day. In fact, according to Diane Beasley, a
writer for the CNN Wire, One in six Americans struggles with food security, and 40% of food goes
to waste (Beasley). America needs to fix this problem because one sixth of Americans don t get food.
Chesterbrook Elementary in Mclean, Virginia has figured out a way to help. Chesterbrook

Even if food cannot always be donated, it can still be recycled instead of just thrown in the dump.
According to the USDA, Americans waste enough food every day to fill a 90,000 seat football
stadium (USDA). If students donated and recycled waste it would decrease that number and it would
reduce the amount of waste in landfills because they would be donating and recycling the food to
food banks. The food that the schools donate would go to the needy. Also, according to David
Seifman, writer for the New York Post, New York spends way too much money on food waste
saying they spend more than three hundred million dollars to ship ten thousand, 800 tons of trash
every day to landfills (Seifman). If every school donated and recycled food rather than throw it
away, cities like New York wouldn t have to spend as much money and they would also save the
amount of trash going into landfills because if people donate and recycle, food isn t going into
the trash. Lastly, Too much food is wasted. According to CNN, 40% of food goes to waste
(Beasley). If schools would donate and recycle, that would decrease the amount of food that goes
to waste because the schools wouldn t be throwing food away and it would decrease the amount of
food waste in landfills. Therefore, donating and recycling food will be beneficial in reducing
Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants
Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self recognition and
empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other. Elephants are highly empathetic
as they support and care for one another in their herds. They can see when something is wrong with
a fellow elephantand try to help. This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition
test. Povinelli saw this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006
Plotnik conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the size and
placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the problem of the elephants
seeing the marks as inconsequential.
Daniel Povinelli tested two Asian elephants in 1989 and Plotnik in 2006 tested three Asian elephants.
In both experiments, they used female Asian elephants, they did not use female African elephants
because they touch their heads several time a day due to secretion of their temporal gland. Female
Asian Elephants temporal gland is non secretory (Plotnik, de Waal, and Reiss). The results would be
confusing because Povinelli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plotnik built off of Povinelli s mirror self recognition test using Asian elephants by righting some of
Povinelli s errors. Plotnik used a bigger mirror and placed it closer so the elephants could touch it
and maneuver around it to understand the concept that the elephant staring back is themselves and
not a new elephant. He also used elephants with good health that could fully participate in the
experiment unlike Povinelli who used Winky who has limited vision in her right eye and Wanda
who has limited trunk movement. A problem both ran into was the elephants ignoring the mark
because they are used to having debris on them from grooming, only Happy passed the mark
