Censorship In Stalin s Chaos Instead Of Music
Stalin s immense displeasure after viewing this opera precipitated the official condemnation of
Shostakovich. In a Soviet newspaper, called the Pravda, Shostakovich and his opera were bitterly
attacked as formalist, bourgeois, course, and vulgar. The article, its title directly translated to Chaos
Instead of Music and written anonymously, describes the orchestral score as shrieking and claims the
operas success abroad was due to the perverted taste of the west, rather than Shostakovich s
brilliance (Sumbur vmeste muzyki). Subsequently, his income dropped by three quarters and even
critics who praised the opera were forced to recant what they had printed. Moreover, the Great
Terror began in 1936, and many of the composer s friends and... Show more content on

Descriptive Writing A Trip To The Beach
Vitamin Sea The way I see things, life is different at the beach. Time doesn t move hour to hour,
but moment to moment. We live by the whipping currents, play by the ever changing tides, and
follow the direction of the yellow globe in the sky. In my experience, trips to the beach never fail
to make my heart giddy and rid my life of any obstacles. At least temporarily. For me, looking out
at the never ending ocean is like looking through a special pair of glasses. I see the world with a
different point of view. Everything seems peaceful and serene; nothing is too troubled and no one
too anxious. A trip to the beach will completely overwhelm your senses. What do I get most anxious
about when I go to the beach? Sprinting, tearing, racing to the ocean. Regarding nothing but the
crystal blue, balmy, water and feelingpure contentment. But in my rush to get to the water, my care
for the surrounding sights seem to slip my mind. I glance around, and at first sight one might see a
few teenagers on summer break, in their Nemo colored swimsuits and shameless black sunglasses,
gamboling around and bubbling with joy. You might see the few mothers daring enough to bring
their giggling toddlers wearing bright bubblegum pink hats that match the shade of their sweet, sun
burnt, little, cheeks. Look around a little more. Open your eyes a little wider. Skim the surface of
the water topped with chalky white foam and teeming with meager little creatures of the sea whose
shells spiral around

Allowing Marine Parks To Keep Marine Mammals
The main thesis presented in the essay is whether to allow marine parks to keep marine
mammals. The first main argument Bill Daly s presents is the fact that individuals would rather
see marine mammals in the wild life than captured inside a tank. Bill Daly s states In fact, there
are more places where they can be seen in wild than places where they can be seen in captivity
(Daly 2016, p.469). This argument presents the fact that many of the places people visit have many
areas to see marine mammals in the wild, which is an option many tourist would prefer. The second
argument presented in the essay is that when it comes to research of marine mammals, marine parks
are only useful to study animals that are captured. Bill Daly states Dolphin
Examples Of Transcendentalism In Poetry
The Symbolism behind the Music
The music consists a unique blend of sanity. The girl s singing voice is not a work of any
masterpiece in anyway, neither is it outstanding enough to be performed in front of a great
audience. It is nothing but a mediocre singing by a lone reaper, which should logically have no
profound sense of philosophy. Yet, her voice provides the tune a brand new significance, which
pours into the listener s psyche, and the melody depicts the very heart and soul of the reaper.
The Poetic Philosophy of the Poet
Solitude, tranquility and melancholy have a closely entwined relation. Melancholy is a state of
emotion, and it often originates from loneliness. William Wordsworth s demonstration of self
proclaimed isolation is not only to enhance the melancholy of a dormant heart, but it aims to
enlighten the unsuspecting reader with solitude and transcendentalism. Therefore, being alone can
allow a person to ponder and contemplate in silence, let go of sadness, and dive into a state of
meditation and introspection. In this manner, solitude can act as a cathartic way of healing a broken
soul and mind. Quite similar to Rousseau, who employs meditation in ... Show more content on

The poet experiences the sense of loneliness deep within himself and writes about the experience.
The feelings of solitude have deeply planted roots including both factors of time and personal
experiences. It also had a significant impact on the poetic theory of Wordsworth. As a poet always
against tradition, Wordsworth fearlessly abandons all the shallowness of extreme classism, and
chooses to describe plain and mediocre things, which urges people to return to the roots of genuine
life, and also enlightens them through nature and its subliminal
Political Citizenship
The way of being appointed to become a senator has been undemocratic in nature from its
creation. There are very few written rules and principles to appoint individuals, and very few
rules for senators to successfully represent the region they reside in due to political patronage and
partisanship. To become a senator in Canada, the onus falls primarily upon the Prime Minister. The
governor general or sovereign formally appoints Senators with the advice of the Prime Minister;
the Governor General has no stake in the matter besides formally putting a stamp on the Prime
Minister s decisions (McCullough, 2015). The Prime Minister therefore has the free will and
political ability to ultimately reward a Senator position to whomever he or she wishes. The Prime
Minister will generally grant these positions to individuals that present greater allegiance to their
political party, this act is defined as political patronage and further secretes notions of partisanship
(Lemieux, Noel 2006). Many Senators become appointed by being associated with the Prime
Minister s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political patronage can be considered, an undemocratic act of the Prime Minister to take partisan
selection of who will help run the nation without the consideration of the people or other
representative members of parliament that were chosen based on the people. Looking into the
deeper meaning of this undemocratic appointment process, it can be concluded that the senate is
essentially part of this control system. Those who do look see how utterly Parliament s upper
house is an instrument of power, used like a personal handmaid by our country s Prime Ministers
(Boyer 2014, 212). If Canada is considered a democratic nation, then why are individuals involved in
important decisions to the nation being chosen based on allegiance and not represented by election

Third Grade Classroom Observation
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified
School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students,
approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was
reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
For the first half an hour, I could see that the students in the back had a difficult time sitting still in
the crisscross position on the rug. One student would frequently stand up on his knees, lie down on
the rug, or spin himself in a circle. During this time I noticed that most of the students who also sat
in the back row on the rug was talking to their peers, while one student stayed quiet and entertained
himself with hyperactivity movements, sucking on his thumb, or playing with his shoelaces. When
the teacher finishes her explanation of the butterfly life cycle, a student quietly raised his hand and
asks her if he would be able to create a human life cycle instead.
I chose to observe a young Caucasian male student, around seven or eight years old. I also do not
have any background information about this student. For the purpose of this observation paper, I am
going to name this student, John. John sat furthest away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John was able to tell his teacher that after the baby is born, in seven years the baby will grow up
and be able to play soccer. John also appears to have a long term memory regarding the human life
cycle. Although I don t know if John has done any pervious study of the human life cycle, John
appears to have a domain of knowledge regarding the human life cycle. Thus, John was able to
successfully draw and write about the human life cycle himself without the help from his teacher,
peers, or other
Analysis Of Dante s Inferno
Dante s Divine Comedy is a work that has lasted many generations, and has greatly contributed to
even our own visualization of the afterlife. It is separated into three parts with the most striking
section of the work being the Inferno. In Inferno, the character Dante travels through hell, and
identifies the sins and consequent punishment of those who are damned. However, Infernois not a
simple report of an event, but also includes several literary devices that convey grander and more
significant themes of sin, punishment, and the afterlife. These devices Dante uses in his work are,
but not limited to, symbolism, allegory, allusion, and a special kind of irony called contrapasso,
which will be discussed in this essay. Dante also arranges... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when many similar allusions appear in what seems to be a deliberate order, it becomes
noticeable that the author wanted to convey a topic or argument in his or her writing without
explicitly saying so. But, why do authors choose to hide their ideas behind recurring symbols and
allusions? They usually do this because it is easier for them to demonstrate their beliefs through
images and symbols than words. Additionally, creating a text that has multiple layers of meaning
also enriches the work, and this is underlined by The Divine Comedy s long standing popularity.
(Encyclopedia Britannica) The Divine Comedy is considered to be an allegorical work because
there are many proposed theories for allegories throughout the story, and even some that encompass
the entire work. Additionally, because of its religious subject matter, many scholars study The
Divine Comedy as they would a religious work. For many, this entails interpreting the text in both a
literal and figurative sense (Encyclopedia Britannica).
One of the most popular and debated events is in Canto IX when the characters Dante and Virgil
arrive at the gates to the city of Dis. Beyond the locked gates, in the city, are the remaining circles
of Hell the characters need to travel through. However, they are spotted by three furies (some kind
of beasts in hell), and are
The Importance Of Baseball In The United States
According to Forbes.com, the MLB brought in around nine billion dollars last year. It has become
evident that these numbers aren t new for the league. This revenue amongst other things has made
the United States into what appears to be the zenith of baseball; but Japan s national baseball league,
the Nippon BaseballLeague is alive and well. According to WorldBaseballClassic.com, Japan s
national team is ranked as the third best baseball team in the world, trailing only the powerhouses
of the United States and Cuba. The team made the semi finals in the last World Baseball Classic.

has created a very different, but equally legitimate league, especially... Show more content on

Japanese baseball can be seen as a foreign game being shaped and molded by their own culture.
The league has been highly successful and is gaining steam. The MLB plays a yearly series
against the Nippon Baseball League, and recently the tides have been turning. The Japanese have
been topping the MLB more and more often. This is a testament to the quality players that the
league produces. Even though it might appear as if baseball has only become a major sport in the

b. Example (quote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, if people choose a sober group they would be encouraged to do things that are
profitable for them. For example, healthy people live a healthy life and people who are around
them would have a healthy life too. Why? Because they would be informed about the things they
eat, the things they do and so on. According to Dieken people are influenced by others when they
find something valuable to grab (155). Moreover, people have to get along with others that have the
same goals; consequently, they are going to be pushed to accomplish all their objectives and they are
going to feel supported not only intellectually but also emotionally. One example are students who
study architecture, when they have to do a project they are always assisting each other, finding
solutions for the problematic and also cheering one another.
Though the other points are important, this point is extremely important because it explains why
people start having addictions. Finding another way of entertainment will help people to overcome
an addiction. Why do people start having bad habits that later would become an addiction? There
are two main words to blame, laziness and boredom which make people wonder what to do all the
time and obviously to make bad decisions. When people are lazy they are inclined to take the
shortcut. Hence, they suffer because they feel unable, with low self esteem and those facts have a
tendency to make people want to try something new, which are
Tell-Tale Titles of Margaret Laurence s A Bird in the House
Margaret Laurence s A Bird in the House is a collection of short stories that is rich in symbols and
similes. Descriptions like claw hand , flyaway manner and hair bound grotesquely like white
fingered wings are found abundantly in the writer s novel. The Oxford English Dictionary defines
symbols as, something that stands for, represents, or denotes something else (not by exact
resemblance, but by vague suggestion, or by some accidental or conventional relation) (reference).
Yet, there is nothing coincidental about Margaret Laurence s diction and her usage of symbols in A
Bird in the House and The Mask of the Bear . These revealing titles effectively foreshadow the plot
and character conflicts that occur in their stories.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To combat these forms of entrapment, Vanessa would write stories about pioneers, and love and
death, as an escape.
Another person who experiences emotional confinement is Ewen. Guilt ridden by feelings of
responsibility for his brother s death in the war, Ewen came back to Manawaka and Beth, his
wife, tells Edna, his sister in law, that, it was only after the war that he decided to come back and
study medicine, (59) probably to take Rod s place in the family s practice, forsaking his own
ambitions. Ewen says, I was never very intellectual Rod was always brighter than I, in school As a
kid, all I ever wanted to do was go into the merchant marine (54 55). Moreover, because of his
guilt, Ewen hardly disagrees with his mother and whenever he upsets her, he quickly apologizes.
Ewen hints that the time when he was at war was a time when he was free. He says It was king of
interesting to see a few other places for a change (91). Ultimately, Ewen s guilt gives way to his
mother s request to name his second child, Roderick. He also hires Noreen, a housekeeper, to
appease his mother and Noreen reveals to Vanessa later on that a bird in the house means a death in
the house (98). This insight predicts Ewen s death, and in dying, Ewen alleviates his guilt. He is now
The Importance Of City Elections In Canada
This paper will examine municipal elections in British Columbia, taking Surrey and Vancouver as
direct examples to show that a ward system would be a much more fair and democratic way to
elect city councils. Municipal elections in these two cities currently take place in an at large
system. The argument behind why this system is superior is that city councils have a more
citywide approach to representation, as opposed to a regional one. Many political scientists have
argued that a ward system, which splits cities into districts that are all represented by at least a single
councillor, are a better way to hold more democratic and representative elections. Because of the
current lack of representation for some lower income or underprivileged... Show more content on

The goal of ward systems is to make sure that all sections of a city are equally represented by at least
a single councillor. Even though cities such as Vancouver have for some reason rejected it (as seen
in 2004), it is a much more fair system to all citizens of a city. The at large system easily tends to
favour wealthier communities in a city. When taking Vancouver as an example, the Berger
Commission of 2004 found that [it] is generally accepted that the majority of city councillors have
been from the West Side. As Rebecca Dhindsa puts it, the West Side is an area with higher
incomes and less unemployment than Vancouver s East Side. This shows that councillors tend to
run from wealthier segments of a city in at large systems. This can be because they may be more
financially well off than the candidates from the underprivileged sections, which can affect
campaign financing, or as the Berger Commission states, the richer and better educated have a
greater chance of informing themselves on civic issues and participating in political affairs. The
defence that this system is better for a council with a citywide focus is also largely false. Royce
Koop and John Kraemer found that many councillors in at large municipalities still favour a certain
area. When interviewing Councillor Bruce Hayne of Surrey, they were told this by him; I think
everybody has some affinity to the geography of where they live. I live in Cloverdale so I
