Compromises Of The Abolition Movement
The abolition movement started before the civil war era. The emancipation of the slaves had been a
major discussion point since the foundation of the United States. In 1775, the Pennsylvania Society
for the Abolition of Slavery was founded by the Quakers, one of the first groups of abolitionists,
because they viewed slavery as un Christian. Even when creating the Constitution of the Untied
States, the matter of slavery and its morality came up as a question. For almost a hundred years,
slavery was something that the country could never agree on. It was such a divisive issue that the
Constitutional Convention even made the topic off limit until 1808. In order to satisfy both the
abolitionist North and the slave bound South, compromise often... Show more content on

Texas was originally part of the northern part of Mexico. In 1825, American Stephen Austin had
settled in Texas along with 300 other families. Mexico had abolished slavery during the 1820s,
but many of the American settlers in Texas brought their slaves along with them. For a while the
American settlers were able to get away with having slaves in a free country because much of
Mexico s population was concentrated further south. However, in 1835, Santa Anna, the ruler of
Mexico, sent an army to Texas to enforce the laws. The Americans in Texas responded to this
authority by rebelling and declaring independence from Mexico in 1836. The Republic of Texas
was short lived and almost immediately tried to become part of the United States. This worried
many abolitionists because Texas was apart of Mexico, a free country, but they made it a slave
territory. One of these worried abolitionists was David Wilmot. In one of his speeches denouncing
slavery, he stated, Shall the South be permitted, by aggression, by invasion of the right, by subduing
free territory, and planting slavery upon it, to wrest these provinces from northern freemen, and turn
them to the accomplishment of their own sectional purposes and schemes? (Document B). Like

Dbq Differences Between Knights And Samurai
From approximately 1000 1600 ce knights and samurai existed in Europe and Asia. Although they
were around the same time period they were different. Knights were the European warriors and the
samurai were the Japanese warriors. Although they are both warriors their codes and the way of
preparing for battle were different. The similarities may look like they are great but there are small
specific differences between the knights and samurai. First let s talk about the codes of the two. The
samurai s code was the Bushido (Doc. E). The knights code was the code of chivalry (Doc. E).The
bushido were mostly about honor and respect, and the chilvey was about power and mercy(Doc. E).
Although they were both around the same time period the
Hawaii Sugar Industry History
In my opinion, the first article is more informative and useful for a person who knows nothing about
the sugar plantations in Hawaii because I feel like it gives more information on the origin of sugar
plantations in Hawaii rather than what happened to it recently. I think it s vital for a person to know
the beginning of the story so that the person can visualize each change that occured in the sugar
industry better.

For example, in the first article it states, The arrival of large populations of immigrants to the
Hawaiian Islands began in the mid 1800s. Hawaii s sugar industry was growing quickly, and
plantation owners suddenly needed more workers than the islands themselves could supply. Disease,
introduced by foreign traders, had wiped
The Price of Diamonds Is too High Essay
The price of diamonds is too high

This essay discusses the statement the price of diamonds is too high ; it will analyze the diamond
cartel and its history in order to determine the validity of this statement. Various microeconomic
theories will be discussed and explained, all of which are involved in the diamond cartel. The Oxford
Dictionary defines a cartel as an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of
maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition [Oxford Dictionaries; unknown].
Therefore, the diamond cartel consists of a group of manufacturers/suppliers of diamonds who
come together in order to restrict supply and as a result increase the price of diamonds. This essay
will focus, mainly; on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this changed in 1870 when diamond mines were found in Kimberly (South Africa) [
Have you ever tried to sell a diamond? Edward Jay Epstein; unknown]. This discovery was a huge
danger to the few manufactures and suppliers of diamonds as with the large amounts, and
therefore the increased supply, of diamonds, they would no longer be considered rare/scare
[Ivona Vogelsang; 2005]; therefore their value and price would decrease as a result. This can be
understood by using the diminishing marginal utility theory, the more people have of something
(or the greater the quantity/supply) the less it is valued (the lower the utility) [Michael Parkin et
al.; 2010]. The less it is valued, the less people are willing to pay (unless it is price inelastic) as a
result decreasing the price of the product/service.

De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. identified this threat and 18 years after the discovery in
Kimberly they became integrated into South Africa. In order to monopolize De Beers began to buy,
from African nations, private mining rights, they also managed to control mine output in order to
restrict the supply of diamonds. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts to limit the supply of
diamonds with the intention of increasing their price, in the 1930 s the demand for diamonds started
to decrease rapidly [Ivona Vogelsang; 2005]. In response to the large decrease
Reconstruction Revisited Essay
Review of Reconstruction Revisited

In Reconstruction Revisited , Eric Foner reexamines the political, social, and economic experiences
of black and white Americans in the aftermath of the Civil War. With the help of many historian
works, Foner gives equal representation to both sides of the Reconstruction argument. Foner writes
that nowhere, was the transfer in black life more profound than in politics. The amazing political
mobilization of the black community was one of the most striking features of that period, along with
the emergence of a new black political class. At the beginning of the Reconstruction, blacks turned to
ministers and men who had achieved prominence as slaves to represent them politically. During ...

Slave quarters were done away with and replaced by small tenant farms, with families occupying
the land. The black church emerged at this time along with black fraternal, charitable, and self
improvement organizations. Black family life was reinstituted with black women withdrawing
form field work. Foner states that Reconstruction gave birth to the modern black community. At
this time there were many white landowners attempting to recreate as much of the slave system as
possible. Many whites were not willing to see blacks on their level socially or economically.
During reconstruction, blacks were no longer forced to work as slaves however they still needed to
work to support themselves and their families. Not many blacks had skills outside of farming so
most worked the lands of the wealthy white landowners but not as slaves. They had the right to do
whatever they wanted and the landowners could do nothing about it. Wealthy landowners still
needed work hands and blacks needed an income so former slaveholders established the
sharecropping system. Land owned by a white person would be farmed by black families and they
shared the crop yield. This often resulted in the white person taking more than their share and the
black families struggled to support themselves. Sharecropping did little to help economic
advancement for blacks and was a way the white man could prevent blacks from making enough

The Fast Food Industry Essay
The Fast Food Industry There are many arguments whether we are better off living with or
without the existence of fast food. It is true that there are many reasons why it is good having
fast food chains around us, but at the same time, it isn t that good either. In this article, I will talk
you through whether society is better or worse off with the existence of fast food. The example
of fast food chain I would be using for this article will be McDonalds. McDonalds is an example
of globalization. They have stores everywhere around the world. They re not far from having one
at the corner of each block. But how are they able to open as many stores as this? The reason... Show

Many consumers have filed a lawsuit on McDonalds because of what has happened to them
health wise. Obesity is the second most common cause of death after smoking. Eating too much
McDonalds causes obesity. This has been portrayed in the documentary, Super Size Me by
Morgan Spurlock. In the near future, it has been predicted that deaths caused by obesity will
surpass deaths from smokers. Other health problems include coronary heart diseases, diabetes and
dental decay. Through health problems, there are not only personal health problems, but also
health problems within the community. Some cases that have gone to court alleges that
McDonalds products, such as Chicken McNuggets were harmful to an amount further than what
was understood by the everyday customer. It alleges that McDonalds promoted its foods as being
healthy while researchers, as well as the firm s own dietetic division in France warned otherwise.
Not only that, it has been said also that researchers did warn that some foods should not be
consumed more than once a week otherwise consumers may suffer health related problems or
disease like I have mentioned above. McDonald s branches are easily accessible, which makes it
convenient for people who don t have time to cook meals themselves. Not only that, but in most
countries, their meals are cheap and affordable for most working class. McDonalds have also
Predator Prey Lab Report Essay
PREDATOR PREY RELATIONS LAB Background Research: Predators and prey are organisms
that interrelate, and they can influence on another s success in reproduction. Predators are
organisms that consume other organisms their prey. These two organisms evolve together. They
live in an environment where they must develop certain adaptations to survive. When an adaptation
is developed, it gives an organism certain physical characteristics that create an advantage for
survival and can come to dominate in a population. An adaptation aids survival by either decreasing
a prey s chance of being eaten, or by increasing a predator s chance of obtaining food to survive and
reproduce. Predators must fight for food. They face density independent... Show more content on

The predators may, however, dash in and pick up any prey being pursued by another predator. Do
not hesitate to intrude, any hungry natural predator would not. Hunting time will be 5 minutes.
When the teacher or the wildfire comes around and touches any of the students, they must step
out of the playing area for fifteen seconds. When told to stop, each student will tally up his kills .
If a predator is in the process of capturing a prey when told to stop, he must drop it. 6. Repeat this
process for each generation and make the proper adjustments required for each. 7. At the end of
the lab, share your data with the class and add up the number of prey killed. Observations: In
certain parts of the field, the grass was very tall and the prey that were in that area were very
difficult to find. Because of this many predators ignored the grassy areas which caused a lot of
competition for prey in the other areas of the field. Certain prey such as the corn was easily
concealed in the grass because of its small size. However, in the dirt area, the color of the corn
really made it stand out. In the dirt area of the field, the pinto beans were concealed because its
camouflage characteristics allowed it blended in with the dirt, but it stuck out in the grass. The
black beans were small black so it was concealed it both the grass and the dirt. The lima
Application Of Kernberg Theory To Narcissistic Personality...
Application of Kernberg Theory to Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is one of the four personality disorders in Cluster B. These
four personality disorders are tied together due to similar symptoms. People with a Cluster B
personality disorder are often viewed as overly emotional, self dramatizing, and unstable. The other
three Cluster B disorders are antisocial, borderline, and histrionic personality disorder. NPD is
characterized by a pattern of grandiosity, a constant need of admiration, and a lack of empathy for
others (Frey, 2012). According to Kernberg and Kohut, the roots of NPD can be traced to
disturbances in the parent child relationship before the child turned three years old (Frey, 2012).
However, Kernberg differed from Kohut in that Kernberg believed that NPD was rooted in a
defense by the child towards an unempathetic and cold parent (Frey, 2012). This paper will explore
Kernberg s theory as it applies to NPD and its treatment. As well as examine the neurobiology and
diversity of NPD.

A person s character or personality is made up of various traits (Hertz, 2011). Some of those traits
can be adaptive and useful in one situation yet dysfunctional in another (Hertz, 2011). A person is
diagnosed with a personality disorder when these character traits become so maladaptive and
inflexible that they begin to cause significant impairment in occupational or social functioning or
cause subjective distress (Hertz, 2011). As
Relational-Emotive Behavior Therapy Case Study
In the Carl Rogers interview the interactions with the client reflected a person centered approach
which allowed the client to realize that she was responsible for themselves and was able to make
her own decisions. When Gloria began speaking of her past relationship with her father, I feel the
interactions were not dead on with the client centered approach because this approach normally does
not focus on the causes of the conflict but on the current feelings being experienced. It was
interesting to observe how Gloria expressed her conflict of feeling promiscuous as being outside of
herself, not taking full responsibility for her actions. Okun Kantrowitz (2014) describes this as

. . and denying responsibility for their own choices (Moreira, et all, 2011, p. 177). Perls points out
how Gloria projects as being phony, and analyzes her non verbal communication, making her
extremely uncomfortable and defensive with him. Okun and Kantrowitz (2014) explain her thoughts
of being afraid but yet smiling as an inconsistency between the organism and its environment that
create conflict that is, avoidance of contact and denying negating covering up a present experience
rather than accepting it, and emphasizing what is not present rather than what is present (134). This
orgasmic balance that Gestalt therapy aims to achieve is obtained by promoting strong feelings
which produce the energy to experience the I and thou of the here and now (Perls, 1965). My
observation was that this balance was achieved when Gloria realized that she was not
experiencing fear of Perls, but was angry with him for now fulfilling her need to be respected and
comforted by him. Her defense levels appear to drop when she realized that he really isn t superior
to her, and he is no different than her in the fact that she could accept him as a child like herself that
could be comforted like a baby. Thus her
Analysis Of Girl Unprotected By Laura Robinson
