Effects Of Regime Type On The Duration Of War And War On...
Amy Ly
International Policy Seminar
Professor Danielson
10 March 2016
[Title]
Introduction What is the effect of regime type on the duration of war and war s impact on
political leaders? And how do these effects range in comparison to other variables, such as wealth,
military power, or alliances? I hypothesize the following: longer wars have a worse impact on
democracies than on dictatorships and mixed regimes, and as a result are shorter. In the first section
of this paper, I define key terms used throughout the paper and review literature and theory related to
the topic of war and regime type. In the next section, I

Background and Literature Review Using [cite] s definition of regime type, I have identified three
types of regimes in this paper: democracies, dictatorships, and mixed regimes. Democracies are
defined as regimes that do not repress its people and include the highest proportion of the populace;
dictatorships are highly repressive and exclude most of the population; and mixed regimes use
moderate repression and exclude a significant proportion of their populace (CITE). To understand
the reasoning behind my hypothesis, I turn to the democratic and inter democratic peace theories, in
which my hypothesis is fundamentally rooted. These theories come from the liberal school of
thought in international relations and posit that democracies do not, or are less likely, to go to war,
and do not go to war with other democracies (Elman 758). There is much scholarly
Depersonalization Research Paper
Depersonalization Derealization Disorder Is characterized by a persistently or repeatedly
feelings of being you are observing yourself from outside your body or have a sense of thing
around you are not real or both. This kind of feelings is very disturbing and are similar to living in
a dream. It is considered depersonalization/derealiztion disorder when these feelings keep occurring
or never completely go away, and accompanied by intact reality testing. The disorder is common
after traumatic experiences, do not attributable to the physiological effects of substance, medical
condition or do not better explained by another mental disorder. Depersonalization derealization

Gold presentation the most interesting about was realized how much people s future could be
affected by a traumatic event without realizing it. In many situations, we judge anyone who has a
problem, without being able to help and understand the reason of it. I respect all therapists who have
the opportunity to help many people dealing with trauma because it is a vital and motivating job that
can save lives. It is essential to be able to identify and find a professional with a corrective action to
help face the problem. What is the difference between Factitious Disorder and Munchausen s
Disorder? There are condition where intentionally the individual forged the illness or cause it to
obtain attention, sympathy or emotional feedback. Therefore in Munchausen Disorder they achieve
this goal through exaggerating those symptoms, intentionally faking it, than even deliberately
creating real symptoms. They created complications as contaminate their own body fluids, injecting
themselves bacteria in order to create illness that will then lead to primary emotional gain. What is

Reality of Education in America Essay
For the past handful of years America has had its fair share of problems terrorist attacks, global
warming, horrendous mass shootings, twerking, and so on. Most recently, however, angry strikes
from frustrated, underpaid citizens have been in the headlines. Surprisingly, it was found that most
of these demonstrators were teachers: angry with the government and the economical approach that
was taken to improve fiscal issues. Within the United States, this approach was called the Deficit
Reduction Plan (DRP). This solution imposed lowering debt by reducing spending and raising
taxes. In 2009, US deficit was at an all time high, peaking almost $1.4 trillion. Since deficit
reductions have not worked in the past, many individuals and... Show more content on

This is why every year twenty percent of teachers in urban districts quit and around five to ten
percent go on strike. Probably the most well known teacher strike stems from Chicago. In this
area, 26,000 Chicago Public School teachers went on strike due to unfair job ethics and pay.
Additionally, the same movement (on a much smaller scale) was starting to be found nationwide in
Florida, Washington, California, New York and also worldwide in countries such as Mexico,
Brazil, Greece, and England. What we are seeing is not something that can be ignored. It is
something that must be addressed as soon as possible, not just in America, but also in other
countries as well. In the palatial grounds of Mexico City alone, thousands of cars and twenty two
million people have been brought down, not by religious conflicts or terrorist attacks, but rather an
aggregation of furious school teachers. Around 10,000 educators protesting a government reform
program have in the span of a week disrupted international air travel, forced the cancellation of two
major soccer matches, rerouted the planned route of the marathon and jammed up already traffic
choked freeways, reports Mark Stevenson of the Huffington Post. In Brazil, strikes have been
ensuing since June of 2013. The problem went from small marches against transportation fares to a
nationwide protest against
Balfour Declaration Dbq
When Harry Truman became President, the last thing on his mind was creating a viable solution to
the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. WW II had not ended in Europe, the world s
first nuclear weapon was being created, and tensions were rising with the Cold War. In addition to
these developing problems, few around the world saw what would be the longest lasting conflict of
them all. It was this problem that Truman ultimately failed at resolving. Right before the end of
World War I, Britain passed what soon to be called the Balfour Declaration. It was this document
that would stir up trouble for decades to come. Right before the start of World War II, the League of
Nationsentrusted Britain with the Mandate of Palestine.After... Show more content on

World War I was drawing to a close and the British government really wanted to divide up the
Ottoman Empire and take Palestine for themselves. In order to accomplish that the British
embassy that they could persuade the good ole USA to side with them if they got support from
the Jewish Americans. Balfour was like well why not? Let s get Wilson on our side. Chaim
Weizmann, a Russian born Jew who was the head of the Zionist movement in Britain, full heartedly
encouraged Balfour to try and gain US support. Since the US s State Department was fully anti
Zionist, Weizmann told Balfour to get to Wilson via an inside friend by the name of Louis
Brandeis. Well after discussions with Brandies (Balfour and Weizmann were relaying info to him)
Woodrow Wilson did not want to go public on his opinion, but he quietly supported the creation of
the jewish state. This led Balfour to write a letter and send it to a prominent, Zionist, British Jew
named Lionel Walter, the second Lord Rothschild. This became known as the Balfour Declaration. It
declared that the British government would support the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine. This
declaration was the main thing that ultimately turned all of the Palestinians sour and never willing to
negotiate and was what Zionists from then on out would refer to as their jurisdiction to creation of a

Essay about Beauty in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Throughout all of history there has been an ideal beauty that most have tried to obtain. But what
if that beauty was impossible to grasp because something was holding one back. There was
nothing one could do to be beautiful . Growing up and being convinced that one was ugly, useless,
and dirty. For Pecola Breedlove, this state of longing was reality. Blue eyes, blonde hair, and pale
white skin was the definition of beauty. Pecola was a black girl with the dream to be beautiful. Toni
Morrisontakes the reader into the life of a young girl through Morrison s exceptional novel, The
Bluest Eye. The novel displays the battles that Pecola struggles with each and every day. Morrison
takes the reader through the themes of whiteness and beauty,... Show more content on

The affiliation between beauty and whiteness limits the concept of beauty only to the person s
exterior. The characters are constantly subjected to images and symbols of whiteness through
movies, books, candy, magazines, baby dolls and advertisements. Another example of the images
and symbols in the novel is when the black protagonist, Pecola, feasts on a Mary Jane candy.
She remembers the Mary Janes. Each pale yellow rapper has a picture on it. A picture of little
Mary Jane, for whom the candy is named. Smiling white face. Blonde hair in gentle disarray, blue
eyes looking at her out of a world of clean comfort. The eyes are petulant, mischievous. To Pecola
they are simply pretty. She eats the candy, and its sweetness is good. To eat the candy is somehow
to eat the eyes, eat Mary Jane. Love Mary Jane. Be Mary Jane, (Morrison, 50).

In this quotation, Morrison uses the Mary Jane candy to represent white beauty. When Pecola
explains the sweetness, simplicity, and love that is identified with the Mary Jane candy, she is
actually explaining the attributes of the white culture. The quotation also emphasizes Pecola s desire
to be white rather than black when she ends with, Be Mary Jane , which highlights the theme of
beauty and how it affects the young black girls.
Along with whiteness being associated with beauty, blackness is associated with ugliness. As
mentioned before, it may be true
Mr. Weinstein s Influence In Hollywood
Harvey Weinstein has had many sexual harassment reports made against them in the past.
According to the press release made by The New Yorker included many different forms of sexual
assault including rape. Some of the stories were fairly veiled for discretions sake, while others
detailed his requests to watch him bathe and for these young actress perform sexual favors for
him. His actions were a well known secret of the Hollywood elite. Now his victims are standing
up to say Me Too . Mr. Weinstein has been let go from the company he cofounded in light of the
allegations. In the Hollywood movie world, no one has less power than the young ingénue who has
just been introduced to the lime light. They are often seen as expendable, and can easily be taken
advantage of by any person with connections they can use to their advantages. The large... Show

The Hollywood elite must stop turning blind eyes to casting couch attempts made by other
Hollywood elites. No matter how many young actors and actresses say No! to unwanted
advances, without the support of those who control the industry itself no head way will be made
in the endeavor to keep actors and actresses safe. Speaking out against Harvey Weinstein is a step
in the right direction, but he is by no means the only person taking advantage of their power to
abuse others. This article only covered his famous victims he propositioned, one can only wonder
how many times he successfully lulled a naïve girl into his trap. He was only successful for so
long in hiding his secret because no one stood up to him, because no one had the courage to stop
THE Harvey Weinstein. That is why it must be the ones who protected his indiscretions for so long
to start the change, because they are not only responsible for what has happened in the past, but also
for what will continue to happen if nothing
Potsdam Student Organizational Fair Report
The Student Organizational Fair at SUNY Potsdam is essentially where a=organization clubs at
Potsdam put up tables and students would walk around and learn more about the clubs. This week
I decided to check out the student organizational fair to see if there was any clubs that I would be
interested in. I didn t expect too much out of it in all honesty but I m glad that I checked it out.
There is one clubin particular that I will definitely join and I wouldn t have known about it if it
wasn t for this fair. The first club that I checked out was a sorority called Sigma Lambda Gamma.
The girl who was running the table for Sigma Lambda Gamma went to my high school three years
ago. I ve never really interested in sorority life not because of
Immanuel Kant s Impact On The Enlightenment
In this essay, I will talk about the Enlightenment. I will discuss how Immanuel Kant s concept of it
affected the society as well as politics. I will explain the main ideas that this age introduced and the
impact they had on people. I will also talk about the reasons why it may be difficult for many people
to attain true Enlightenment. Finally, I will examine how Kant defines Enlightenment himself.
Enlightenment was an era from the 1650s to the 1780s. It was an intellectual movement that
noticeably influenced scientific and social ways of thinking of the eighteenth century. It introduced
and emphasised analysis, reason and individualism. It also introduced finding out about the world in
ways that are not based on faith. It was the first time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have shown the Immanuel Kant s concept of it and explained it. I have also shown the way in
which people functioned, how they thought and how they used their reason in the eighteenth
century. I also gave reasons why it might have been difficult for many to attain true Enlightenment
and why many remained immature in that sense. Furthermore, I referred to two different usages of
reason that Kant introduced private and public and explained them as well as gave examples.
Overall, I have shown that for people Enlightenment was a very big as well as new concept, and
that it took a lot of courage and intellect of many to acquire
Mr Smith Goes To Washington Analysis
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is about an unexperienced Senator who tries to get legislation
passed to get a government loan to buy land for a boy s camp. An open seat in the Senate became
available because one of the Senators passed away. In order to fill that spot Governor Hooper had
to appoint a new Senator. The Governors corrupt boss James Taylor wanted him to pick his
handpicked person however Hooper s children wanted him to select Jefferson Smith who was
head of the Boy Rangers. Hooper was unable to make up his mind so he flipped a coin which
landed on its side right beside a newspaper article about Jefferson Smith. After this Hooper decided

With the help of his secretary Clarissa Saunders, Smith comes up with a bill that would authorize
the government to loan money to buy land for a boy s camp in Smith s home town that would be
paid back buy the boys change. Smith did not realize it yet but the proposed campsite was already
part of a dam building that was added to a bill by Paine and Taylor. Smith was now in front of the
Senate Committee on Privileges and Elections where they try to present a forged document saying
Mr. Smith Already owned the land and was trying to profit from it. Smith was shocked that Mr.
Paine was not the man he thought and did not know what to say so he ran out of the chamber. Mr.
Smith was going to go back home but his secretary found him sitting by the Abraham Lincoln
monument and talked him into initiating a filibuster to postpone the bill and prove he was
innocent. While he was trying to prove his innocence he talked for nearly 24 hours. During his
speech he read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and tried to disclose the real
motives of the dam that Paine and Taylor had planned. Unfortunately none of the Senators believed
him. Taylor reached out to all the newspapers and radio stations and once again tried ruining his
reputation to get him out of the Senate. The Boy Rangers wrote their own paper and tried to hand
them out but was attacked by people who were for Paine and
Women In The Wife Of Bath s Tale
In the Wife of Bath s tale women are not treated equally to men, yet are not entirely undervalued
as long as they hold a lofty position in society such as a queen. After King Arthurs court has
decreed that the knight is to be put to death, he withdraws this decision in favor of listening to his
wife s advice. In contrast, the hag, who holds a much lower place in the caste system, is not treated
with respect until it is revealed that she can help the knight with his quest. Even after she saves his
life with her advice, he is quite open with the fact that he is miserable spending his life with an ugly
old woman. While he seems to appreciate her intellect and craftiness, he cannot look past her
physical appearance, which is the main trait of which
Personal Narrative-Home While In High School
I needed a tune up for my Mustang, so, like any other person with a car would do, I decided to
drop it off this morning at a mechanic near the school (about a ten minute walk). My thinking at
the time was, if I dropped it off now it should be ready by the time I m finished with class.
Expectantly, it didn t go as planned. While I was walking, Mrs. Sorun, who happened to see me,
stopped and asked me if I wanted a ride. At first I was hesitant, thinking she was turning her
terrifying words from the other day into actions, but ultimately accepted. I would ve of declined if

This is called one of the most favored of all engineering projects ever done. Most kids like this
project because they are hands on, get to get creative, and also get to work with other people,
preferably the ones they get to pick, of course. They might also be able to show some hidden
talents that they have and show what they can do to the best of their ability, also to get others into
