Batman s Iteral Questions Response To The Reader
iteral questions have responses that are directly stated in the text. The reader is able to simply locate
the information and copy, paraphrase or summarize. (summarize, count, name, list, copy, record,
retell). Ex. questions: Who are the characters in the story? What is the name of the villian? Who is
the main character? Where did they go on their vacation? What does Batman say to the Joker in
Chapter 1? What happens in this chapter? Inferential questions have responses that are indirectly
stated, implied, or require other information. The reader needs be able use the clues and make
connections to make meaning of the text (identify, classify, categorize, explain, predict, analyze). Ex.
questions: Why does Batman run from the scene? What does
Persuasive Essay On Stray Animals
Most people have, at some point in their lives, encountered a stray animal of some kind. It is
common to see stray animals such as dogs or cats roaming around cities and neighborhoods,
sometimes becoming a burden to the residents of those areas. Oftentimes, people will take pity on
these animals and adopt them as their own. However, as the feral animal population grows, it is
becoming increasingly difficult to accommodate all of the homeless pets. There are around 70
million stray animals in the United States (Pepelko, 2014). This is a sizeable amount of animals and
it continues to grow each day. There are many proposed solutions to this issue such as euthanasia, an
increase in the amount of shelters, or stricter regulations on adopting animals, but there is one
solution that stands out: sterilization, otherwise known as spaying (for females) and neutering(for
males). Sterilization is the best solution to the growing stray animal population because it
eliminates the possibility of unwanted litters, stabilizes feral colonies, and decreases shelter
populations. There are about 94 million cats and 90 million dogs kept as pets in the United States (
Facts Statistics , n.d.). Of all of these animals, 1 in 3 will get lost in their lifetime ( Alleviating
Concerns , n.d.). If an unspayed female cator dogbecomes lost outside, they are likely to become
pregnant. Whether or not the animal returns home, the result is an unwanted pregnancy. When
animals are left out in the
Cinematic Techniques In Apocalypse Now
Second Term Research Essay: Cinematic Aspects of Apocalypse Now
Humanities for a Global Age
AP/HUMA 2600 6.0A
Sara Ducic

Apocalypse Now is a film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and although it comes across as a war
film at first glance, Apocalypse Now is a thriller/drama about the human psyche. Using no surrealist
imagery, and a grounded realistic mis en scene, the film effectively uses cinematic techniques such as
lighting, camera angles, camera movements and shots, colour and an array of other techniques to
situate the viewer within a surrealist world of war and darkness. The film provides us with an
intimate look into the mental struggles of each character, and the torment that they face when

Willards voice over plays an essential part in the film; since he is the protagonist, the voice over
gives context to everything that is happening, and functions to create his character. Willards voice
over serves to provide context, which is demonstrated in the opening shot. Without the voice over,
the viewer would be unaware whether they were seeing actual Vietnam, but the Vietnam Willard
is thinking about. The voice over begins with Saigon, shit. I m still only in Saigon. , therefore
situating Willard in a space within the diegesis, and goes on to explain the rest of the scene.
Secondly, the voice over is autobiographical and self revealing. To borrow a phrase from Doane, it
turns the body inside out, displaying what is inaccessible to the image, what exceeds the visible. 28
(Silverman). Willards voice over is used to express his most intimate thoughts and feelings that the
viewer would otherwise not know, or would be unable to be expressed in a medium such as a play.
The viewer would be unable to understand the actions of Willards, The voice in question functions
almost like a searchlight suddenly turned upon a character s thoughts; it makes audible what is
ostensibly inaudible, transforming the private into the
Evidence Based Intervention Case Study
Evidence Based Interventions
According to Hah et al. (2017), several studies have shown that nerve blockade of the central
nervous system (neuraxial anesthesia) or peripheral nerves (regional anesthesia) reduce the need for
opioids in the immediate postoperative phase. There are two mechanisms through which nerve
blockade reduces persistent opioid use. First, nerve blockade works by impeding the transmission of
pain during the perioperative phase and thereby stopping central sensitization and chronic
neuropathic pain. Second, nerve blocks are effective in treating postoperative pain and are good
predictor of persistent opioid use. Similarly, studies found that intravenous local anesthetic such as
lidocaine reduces perioperative opioid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each guideline includes, a recommendation for initial agent, dose, duration, frequency, and
maximum dose to be dispense. According to the guideline, only 1 short acting opioid can be
prescribed at a time, avoidance of opioid prescription before surgery, and reducing concurrent use
of sedatives or hypnotics. Patient must also be present during initial opioid prescription. If patient
has not been seen within the past 30 days, no refill or prescription is allowed. Soffin et al (2017)
equally found clinical assessment as the key enabler of safe opioid prescribing. Patients must be
frequently evaluated to determine the effectiveness of the medication and dose adjustment.
Evidence from Soelberg et al. (2017) study also suggest that writing prescription for shorter
duration and dispensing less medication have the potential to reduce the risk of long term opioid
use. Risk assessment is crucial, and intervention must be rendered promptly if misuse is suspected.
Patients must be assessed for opioid tolerance preoperatively. Early diagnosis of opioid tolerance
mitigates the risk of acute withdrawal, gives opportunity to optimize preoperative status, and allows
surgeons to design care plan tailored specifically to the individual need (Soffin, et al., 2017). Early
identification of surgical patients with chronic pain who are
Prevention And Prevention Of Measles
Shots might hurt and can be life threatening but it can be worth to prevent disease. Immunization is
also known as vaccination. They are essential for adults as well as children to protect against
infectious diseases like measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, and many
others diseases ( Immunization: MedlinePlus, 2014). Measlesis one of the highly infectious diseases
caused by virus among all of them. It spreads through the air by coughing and sneezing. It starts
with the symptoms like fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat, red eyes and rashes spread all over
the body. Usually measles can be prevented with complete recovery as soon as it is vaccinated with
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccines but it can lead... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents, whose babies were exposed to measles, were so frightened with this outbreak that they
started looking for pediatricians. Some parents even had to take leave from their work to get
their babies vaccinated and keep them safe. Also, some families were asked not bring their
infected babies into the crowded area by their pediatricians. Clinics started running low on
vaccines due to more babies were being vaccinated at the same time causing a major shortage of
vaccines. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) infants should get their
first measles shot at the age of 12 to 15 months and if they are traveling to other countries than at
the age of 6 months (Szabo, 2015). One of the pediatricians Jay Gordon said that measles outbreak
changed parents opinion and he was receiving many calls for vaccine consultations. He also said,
People are viewing the vaccine differently. The people in the pharmaceutical industry must be
thrilled (Szabo, 2015). According to Szabo, studies have found 40% of parents do not vaccinate
their children at all or on time due to some myths about vaccines (Szabo, 2015). I do not believe
such myths because I know that vaccination is for our safety. I suggest parents to consult specialist
for more information regarding vaccination and its side effects. Parents should understand life is
more valuable than some myth for their children. A rumor about vaccines causing autism is one of
reason why measles is
Importance Of Public Speaking Speech
Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use
public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement
made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any
public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily
forgotten since my last speechclass over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process
of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I
managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be
proud of.

When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another
prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals of public
speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was changed to
an in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad that we have
been doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm up beforehand it
would have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my partner, I thought I
had compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well organized speech. I took this
as a good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of public speaking. After delivering
my speech I
Joseph Heller s Catch-22
Joseph Heller s critically acclaimed novel Catch 22 is an example of a novel that was never meant
to be just a story . Every chapter peels away a layer of analytical depth in which none but the most
sophisticated minds can fully conquer. Robert M. Young s psychoanalytical approach to Catch 22
can be divided into three interpretations: why his focus on the psychoanalytical structure is correct,
how his ideas accurately reflect Joseph Hellers intended purpose for the novel, and how his analysis
impacts the overall perception of the novel. Helplessness against the destructive forces within is
ubiquitous and constitutes the greatest physical danger situation known to the human organism
(Young 1). Catch 22is a novel that is interpreted and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time reading the novel, it can be described as a satire with plenty of black humor. However,
upon rereading it and paying further attention to the syntax and diction, one can begin to see the
novel through Young s eyes. The novel one of the century s greatest and one whose subtleties I have
only begun to convey turns on what happens at the intersection of character and the institutionalized
reifications and cruelties of debased societies and societies at war, internally and with nominally
external enemies (Young 8). To summarize, Young is stating how the pressures of war and the
expectations of society lean heavily on the shoulders of the individual. These kinds of burdens
induce heavy psychological damages along with the troubles of external problems (i.e. the nominally
external enemies ). After reading Young s critical review, one gains the ability to read the novel in a
new light, and further appreciate the enormous complexity Joseph Heller wove through the
sentences. For example, page 356 says, It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue
and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy,
thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice
(Young 8). The complexity as well as the raw truth of the above sentence shows the kinds
Omelas Literary Devices
In stories there are many literary devices used to help convey the overall message of the story.
These literary devices help to portray the theme or themes of the story. This allows the reader to
grasp a better understanding of what the author is trying to depict since it is hard to get the same
image in the reader s head as is in the author s. In Ursula Le Guin s The Ones Who Walk Away
From Omelas, we see the use of irony, setting and diction to help support the underlying theme of the
value of a human life. The theme of the value of human life can be depicted in the story through the
use of irony. In the short story, the utopian kingdom of Omelas is kept happy due to the child that
is locked away. Ursula Le Guin states, they all understand that their happiness, the beauty of their
city, the tenderness of their friendship, the health of their children, the wisdom of their scholars,
the skill of their makers, even the abundance of their harvest and the kindly weathers of their
skies, depend wholly on this child s abominable misery . Everyone in the town knows of the child
s existence and believes that it is because of his mistreatment that they have happiness. The
kingdom believes that to embrace violence is to lose hold of everything (Guin). This is ironic
because Omelas is supposed to be a happy kingdom, free of violence except for the violence
inflicted upon the child. This one human life is bringing happiness to the whole town. The value of
a human life is shown

In all, the two stories present similar events that follow the same journey of a hero; yet, he events

The movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief holds a Perfect Hero ID to
Percy Jackson just like Perseus in Danaüs, Perseus, and the Gorgon yet, the presentation of the
character changes to be more appealing to the modern times. Perseus presents himself as a selfless
hero when his actions on slaying Medusa were: Looking into the mirroring shield, Perseus
swooped down, and with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa s head. (D aulaires, page 118) The
movie, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson decides to put
himself as this good hero when Annabeth is being harassed by the Medusa and he catches her
attention in order for Annabeth to escape and have the monster chase him around the stone and
garden shop. Both demigods show they are selfless, they will risk their life for another to be
successful, but Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief takes Perseus hero
presentation and modernizes the event to be more of this challenge for the new god, for it is more

Three Most Important Ideas For Success In Dr. Ben Carson s...
Dr. Ben Carson has had many successes in his life, and in his biography, Gifted Hands, he
explains his formula for being successful in life. The formula given for success in life is explained
in his THINK BIG acronym. The three most important ideas for success in life from THINK BIG
is having major honesty, books, and God. Honesty plays a major role in accomplishing goals. Not
only is it necessary in life, but can determine the outcome between a good or bad future. As stated in
the text, And honesty was an important principle he d learned from his mother at church. Ben
immediately turned around and walked back to the store, where he returned the ten dollar bill to the
clerk and explained what had happened. She gave him the correct change,... Show more content on

According to the text, Ben also realized that he had known the answer because he d been reading
books. As that sank in, he began to wonder, What if I read books about all my subject? Maybe I
would know more than anyone in the class, more than the kids who tease me and call me names.
If it wasn t for reading Ben may not have gotten where he is today. Not only did books change his
life, he saw things from a new perspective. Ben used reading as an advantage to comprehend and
learn more, and like Ben, we should use reading as an advantage to getting farther in life.
Furthermore, success also lies in the hands of God. For example, Thank you God, he prayed. You
gave me a miracle today! In Ben s moment of struggle, he reached for God s help, and no doubt
God created a miracle. Ben life was a hassle, but not only did he have God with him, he had faith
that God s plans were for a reason. Likewise, we should reach out to god and in moments of doubt
ask him for help. In conclusion, some of the most important ideas for success in life are honesty,
books, and God. Although many other ideas may be just as good, the importance of the three had a
major impact in Ben s life, and like so, these also had an impact on many
