Activity #3 Science - Lesson - Plan

This lesson plan for Grade 7 Science focuses on the states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Students will learn to identify and compare the properties of these states through discussions, demonstrations, and group activities. The lesson includes various materials and evaluation methods to assess understanding.

Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science

Grade Level: 7

Subject: Science

Topic: States of Matter

Time Allotment: 60 minutes

Teacher: (Your Name)

Date: (Insert Date)

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

 Identify and describe the three common states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
 Compare the properties of solids, liquids, and gases based on shape, volume, and
particle arrangement.
 Demonstrate understanding through group activities and performance tasks.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: States of Matter

Concepts: Matter exists in different states—solid, liquid, and gas—each with unique
properties.

Materials Needed:

 Video presentation
 Chart or visual aids
 Balloons, water, containers
 Worksheet / Activity sheet

References:

 K to 12 Science Curriculum Guide

 Science 7 Learner’s Module – Quarter 1, Module 3

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities (10 minutes)

 Prayer
 Greeting
 Checking of Attendance
 Review: Quick recap: “What is matter?”
 Ask: “Can you give examples of things around you that are made of matter?”

B. Motivation (5 minutes)
Show a short video or animation illustrating solids, liquids, and gases in real-life settings
(e.g., ice melting, water boiling, air filling a balloon).

Ask: “What do you notice about these objects or substances?”

C. Lesson Proper (20 minutes)

1. Discussion

Define matter and its three states.

Present a chart comparing the properties of solids, liquids, and gases:

 Shape: fixed or variable

 Volume: fixed or variable
 Particle Arrangement: tightly packed, loosely packed, or spread out

2. Examples & Demonstration

 Solid: book, rock

 Liquid: water in a bottle
 Gas: air in a balloon

D. Group Activity (15 minutes)

“Matter Sorting Challenge”

Students will be divided into groups of 4–5. Each group will receive cards with images or
names of substances. Task: Categorize them under solid, liquid, or gas on a group chart.

Follow-up Questions:

 Why did you classify water vapor as gas?

 Can an object change its state? Give an example.

E. Generalization (5 minutes)
 What are the key differences between the three states of matter?
 How does understanding matter help us in daily life?

Summary: Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. It exists mainly as solid,
liquid, or gas, each having distinct properties.
IV. EVALUATION (5 minutes)
1. Which state of matter has a definite shape and volume?
2. What state of matter fills the entire space of its container?
3. Ice melting into water is a change from _____ to _____.
4. Give one example each of solid, liquid, and gas.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Create a mini-poster showing the three states of matter with at least 2 examples for each.

Be creative! Due: Next meeting.
