The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda
Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904
in a small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his
father. Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel
Prize winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not
have at home. In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we
know as Pablo Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his
father s disapproval of Neruda s interests in literature. This essay will analyze Neruda s life and how
it may have influenced his style, tone and other literary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain
then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in
our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it
seemed like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring
the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of
murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact,
the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and
pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political
struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really affect the way that
poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa.
Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about
love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your
Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person in the poem is obviously struggling in
life. But, the laughter of their significant other s motivates them to keep driving through whatever
darkness they are going through, and keeps them happy as well. A small excerpt of the poem states,

Essay On Calcium Intake
Introduction Long term calcium intake deficiencies in adults can be linked to numerous adverse
medical conditions, but regularly American adults do not meet Food and Nutrition Board s
(FNB) Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs) for this vital mineral (Ross, 2011). The FNB
recommends that males and females between ages 19 50 and males 51 70 years old receive 1,000
mg of calcium every day and that women 51 70 years old and both males and females 70+ years
old intake 1,200 mg of calcium every day ( Calcium Fact Sheet, 2016). However, both genders of
almost all ages fall short of meeting the established Adequate Intake level ( Nutrient
Recommendations, n.d.). According to the National Healthand NutritionExamination Survey

Furthermore, hip fractures have a one in five mortality rate with as many as two thirds of
individuals not regaining their previous mobility status ( Osteoporosis Prevention, Diagnosis, 2000).
Over 1.5 million annual fractures can be attributed to osteoporosis (Riggs and Melton, 1995). In
addition to osteoporosis and osteopenia, low levels of calcium intake can lead to preeclampsia, a
medical condition that develops in pregnant women, usually after 20 weeks gestation, characterized
by hypertension and proteinuria, which can lead to blurred vision, pulmonary edema, stroke, and
intrauterine growth restriction (UGR) (Hart and Harris, 2012). With 50,000 60,000 connected deaths
worldwide, preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality (
Hypertension in Pregnancy, 2013). Studies suggest that a supplement of 1,000 mg of calcium per
day in pregnant women could reduce the chances of developing preeclampsia by as much as 55%,
though the risk reduction was found to be far greater in women with low baseline calcium intakes
(less than 900 mg/day) compared to women with higher daily calcium intakes, whose reductions in
preeclampsia risk were not statistically significant ( Calcium Fact Sheet, 2016). In contrast with the
negative medical conditions associated with long term calcium deficiencies, consistently attaining
the recommended daily amounts of calcium can lead to positive health outcomes extending beyond
preventing bone
Instilled Heritage Essay

Alice Walker usually puts herself into characters that she writes about in her stories. However,
you don t understand this unless you know about her. Staring with this let us find out about who
she is and where she came from. When recounting the life of Alice Walker, you find out that she
was born to sharecroppers in Eatonton, Georgia in 1944 and was the baby of eight children. She
lost one of her eyes when her brother shot her with a BB gun by accident. She was valedictorian of
her class in high school and with that and receiving a scholarship; she went to Spelman, a college
for black women, in Atlanta. She then transferred to Sarah Lawrence College in New York and

While Dee is gone Maggie and Mother are doing whatever needs to be done around the house, to
survive. Dee would write every now and again, and told her Mother, no matter where she, the
Mother, lived, she would always come and see her, but she wouldn t bring any friends. Upon Dee s
visit, she arrives with a man that greets everyone, Asalamalakim, upon exiting the vehicle. Mother
confuses this with his name and is very unsuccessful in trying to pronounce it. She is told to call
him Hakim a Barber. Her daughter Dee also tells her mother that she has changed her name and it is
now, Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo. This name, Wangero, has a personal meaning to Alice Walkerin
the fact that while on her trip as an exchange student in Africa, the name Wangero is the name that
was given to her while she was there.
Moving to the trivial meaning of the short story, we later find Dee along with her mother, sister and
Hakim, at the dinner table, having, none the less, pork. Hakim had stated that he did not eat pork
and collards, yet Dee is more than happy to help herself to everything that is available. While sitting
at dinner, she sees the churn that is in the corner and states that she wants to take the top home and
make it a center piece as well as she wants the dasher as well, the wooden rod used to make butter.
She can do something fancy with it as well. She continues after dinner going through the house
searching through some old belongings,
Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a
chronic metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin
resistance, and relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk factors
are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of this
disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the
patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life
expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across
the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due to
T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with this
disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be controlled
with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient on lifetime
medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association released a letter
suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a direct medical cost
of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. In order to avoid and delay the short and
long term complications, the patients are prescribed with multiple treatment modalities such as oral
hypoglycemic drugs and
Spies Of The American Revolution
Ceci Carmichael Mr. Lewis A.P. US History Period 4 11/19/14 Spies of the American Revolution
The American Revolution and the Revolutionary War was the starting point of America s journey
to become an independent country. The revolution was an aggressive movement to finally be
free of Britain once and for all. There were a lot of components in a victory for the Americans:
help from foreign countries, strong unity, home field advantage, and spies. Yes, spies. The spies
who were in the American Revolution played a crucial role in many aspects of the war, including
discovering acts of treason, learning British battle plans, and discovering locations of different
individuals and groups of the enemy. Throughout the entire war, there were many individuals and
groups that sent information all around, mostly in the New York and New Jersey area. Perhaps
the most well known spy is Nathan Hale. After graduating from Yale at age 18, Nathan was given
the rank of 1st Lieutenant when he joined the Continental army. A few months later, he was
promoted to captain and was given a command of Rangers to secure New York City. On
September 6, 1776, Hale enlisted to become a spy. Hale is not remembered for being a spy,
though. He imitated a school teacher, his previous job before the war. Hale s mission was to collect
intelligence behind enemy lines before the Battle of Harlem Heights. He slipped behind enemy lines
on Long Island and successfully gathered information about British troop battle
Oz The Great And Powerful Analysis
Turning timeless classics into big budget films is the new rage in Hollywood today. Sam Raimi s
Oz the Great and Powerful is no exception. With numerous other competitors in the market, it
failed to meet the bar as yet another film is added to the ever growing pile of adaptations for L.
Frank Baum s Children s novel. The beloved childhood movie of millions received a prequel packed
with phony effects and boring one liners.
Oz the Great and Powerful, well, not so great or powerful, provides itself as a prequel for the
beloved 1989 film The Wizard of Oz . It follows the story of con man and rake, Oscar Oz Diggs
(James Franco), and his accidental trip to the magical land of Oz. Upon his arrival, he easily charms
the beautiful and naive Witch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No brain, no heart, and no courage to exceed audience s expectations. Performances are meant to
be compelling and engaging, and yet I was disappointed with the monotonous disaster presented
instead. The cast lacked any energy or awareness of their characters throughout the film, making
it seem as if they didn t want to be there. Franco s portrayal of a mischievous and clever con man
was lazy to the point I couldn t tell what Oz was feeling. Whenever he threw a smirk to any of the
characters, it made me want to hide as he looked more like a creepy homeless man down the
street than a bad boy hero. On the same scale, Mila Kunis attempt on being the symbolic Wicked
Witch of the West was beyond embarrassing. Cackling at every minute mixed with an innocent
baby voice , it was bound to be a disaster from the start. The lack of wickedness made me laugh at
the witch, rather than scared out of my wits. Rachel Weisz alone delivered a stellar performance as
the original Wicked Witch. By being terrifyingly wicked, she successfully gained the desired
emotions from the audience. Watching her manipulate her sister Theodora to the dark side really
made the audience loathe her but entranced at the fluidity of her actions. Without Weisz, this movie
would ve been swept away by a tornado to a land where no one can ever find
