Pneumonia Vs Asthma Essay
There are many respiratory problems humans can encounter over their lifespan but two seemingly
common ones are Pneumonia and Asthma. Pneumonia on average effects about 5 to 10 million
people in U.S. yearly, with a mortality rate of .05%( Pneumonia Can Be Prevented Vaccines Can
Help, 2014). Pneumonia is an infection of the air sacs in the lungs caused by a bacterium or virus
that cause the lung to become inflamed. Asthma on the contrary is not a disease contracted from a
bacterial or viral infection, instead it is a genetically inherited trait. Although certain forms of asthma
can be contracted through the inhalation of certain particles that irritate lung tissue. In the U.S.
asthma effects around 12 million people. Asthma causes the constriction of the airway when... Show

Pneumonias most common form is the Streptococcus pneumoniae but when it is caused by
another bacterium it is called atypical pneumonia or walking pneumonia which usually causes a
less severe form of the disease (hajiliadas, 2014). However pneumonia caused by the typical
bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae can be very severe and even life threatening. Symptoms
of pneumonia can range in type and severity of the disease but usually someone who has or is
developing the illness will feel fatigued, be running a fever, and will develop a cough that will
most likely produce phlegm. In some cases patients have developed fluid being released into the
plural cavity and in mire severe cases that fluid can become infected. The diagnosis for this illness
is very straight forward and usually can be diagnosed by taking a pulse oximetry test and/or a
sputum test. However, if the illness is in advanced stages and life threating X rays of the chest can
be performed in order to determine the severity and progression of the illness. This disease is easily
treatable by antibiotics but for more severe cases antibiotics usually do not help.
Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and
social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the
novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men
and women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283)
This bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to
truly understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is
ostensibly simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught
to be women, by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition
of a woman. She exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It
is here that little girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the
first one, withdraws the mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the
ones who are denied kisses and caresses; the little girlcontinues to be doted upon... (285) Here
Beauvoir shows that even from birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than
boys is perpetuated by parents treating girls with more affection and delicacy. In another example,
she states, The boyis also brought up by his mother in the beginning; but she respects his maleness
What Is The Purpose Of The Truman Doctrine
Task 1
a)Summary of evidence

Source A is an extract from the book The Fifty Years war: The United States and the Soviet Union in
World Politics. This extract from a historian describes the intentions of the Truman Doctrine which
was to protect Western Europe from the threat of communism known as the policy of containment.
With the Truman Doctrine, President Truman established that the United States would provide
military, political and economic assistance to all democratic nations under threat from internal or
external authoritarian forces by sending money, military equipment and giving advice.
Source B is an extract from President Truman s speech to the US Congress on 12 March 1947.

This symbolized a drastic shift in USA foreign policy to actively supporting free people through the
containment of communism. Truman pledged to assist any country by way of money, equipment
and advice that had suffered during WWII and was threatened by a communist takeover. The purpose
of this source is to inform us as to what the Truman Doctrine consisted of and the reason as to why
the Doctrine was introduced which was too protect Western Europe from what it saw as a
communist threat and therefore contain the spread of communism.

Value
The source adds value because we learn from it how President Truman felt towards communism
viewing it as evil and despised the communist regime. This sheds light on the importance that
President Truman was prepared to take action in order to stop the further spread of communism.

Limitation
The source is limited because it reflects the viewpoint of C. Richard who is an American historian
therefore it is only based on US perspective. It also reflects his opinion and

brain of the computer. Other common name for the CPU is the processor. It is in control of the
power the computer is receiving and using and the calculations that enable to the computer to be

A New Year At An Unforgettable Year
January 1, 2016. The ball dropped at midnight like it does every year, and people around the world
cheered on the coming of the new year. For most, a new year equals new opportunities,
improvement, and overall, hopes for a better year than the previous one. I was one of the people that
thought this on that particular New Years. 2015hadn t been the greatest year of my life, so that
meant 2016 would have to be better. As much as I wanted that and wished it were true, it wasn t at
all. On New Years Day 2016, my grandpa was admitted into the hospital, and the months following
were a roller coaster of highs and lows that made 2016 an unforgettable year for many not so great
reasons. During the summer of 2015, my Grandpa Mert was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This
particular type of cancer is usually very treatable and is something you just live with, so it didn t
worry our family too much. Toward the end of the year, however, things started changing. On New
Years Day, my grandpa was admitted to the hospital for the flu, and the flu turned into pneumonia,
and we found out later it was all because of his cancer. He had tried one round of chemotherapy,
but the treatment made his body so weak that it couldn t fight off other viruses, like the flu and
pneumonia. He ended up staying in the hospital on and off (mostly on) for just over a month, and
even had to spend his 75th birthday in the hospital. As his health progressively worsened and his
body became weaker, he
The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era
The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era

When it comes to music history, the Castrati are one of the most important and debated topics. The
Castrati were men (in Italian opera) that had been castrated during puberty to stop a flow of
hormones, causing them to have the voice of a soprano woman, but the vocal power of an older, full
grown man. A general estimate said that four thousand boys a year were castrated in Italy. Some
Castrati tried to make it in church choirs (which often gave them almost nothing of monetary value),
most chose the opera route. They reigned supreme when they got onstage, being the obvious star of
the show. They were the master performers that drew the crowd in with their amazing voices. During

Even though he was a soprano, he also had an amazingly clear lower register, where a tenor would
most likely be comfortable. Farinelli showed off all the sweetness of his voice wherever he
traveled and was rewarded with roars of applause. During this period of time, he did no wrong.
He was famous beyond belief, a formidable performer, and had honors upon honors. One of his
most famous performances involved him having a duet with a trumpet that turned into a duel.
Porpora, who was his teacher, spoke about the event: During the run of an opera there was a
struggle every night between Farinelli and a famous player on the trumpet [...] After severally
swelling a note in which each manifested the power of his lungs and tried to rival the other in
brilliancy and force, they had both a swell and shake together, by thirds, which was continued so
long [...] that both seemed exhausted; and, in fact, the trumpeter, wholly spent, gave it up, thinking,
however, his antagonist as much tired as himself [...]; when Farinelli, with a smile on his
countenance, showing that he had only been sporting with him all that time, broke out all at once in
the same breath, with fresh vigor, and not only swelled and shook the note, but ran the most rapid
and difficult divisions and was at last silenced only by the acclamations of the audience. From this
period may be dated the superiority which he ever maintained over all his contemporaries.

Violence Is Immoral And Wrong
Society has been subjected to many violent acts over the course of its history. Although violence is
immoral and wrong, somehow people everyday condone and commit violence for countless
reasons. Many Hollywood films glorify mindless violence to their advantage and captivate
audiences through its entertaining shock value and rake large box office profits. Car chases,
crashes and glorified gladiator sword fights are all familiar scenes in which violenceis portrayed in an
unrealistic glamorised manner.

Alternatively, many directors aim to portray violence in a far more realistic way as it aims not to
condone it. Instead, they seek to show the true repercussions of violent acts among society. Hany
Abu Assad (Paradise Now) and Tony Kaye (American History X) intend to challenge and create an
alternative view to violence through the way they portray it. They all demonstrate the vicious and
futile cycle of violence and how it is a useless notion that only sparks more terror and misery.
Further, they seek to show an understanding to the audiences of just why people succumb to such
violent acts, opening a window into the world of the perpetrators and how they perceive violence as
an answer to their struggles. Both films deal with different issues of violence, however,
fundamentally sustain the same profoundness. They all seek to teach peace through violence in the
way they depict violent acts and hateful behaviour as senseless and wrong, aiming for the moral
message to transcend
Sephy s Movement When The Bomb Blown Away By Malorie
Blackman
Malorie Blackman makes the aftermath of the Dundale Shopping Centre bombing very vivid for the
reader by using very interesting and useful word and phrases.
Malorie starts the scene by describing when the bomb blown off. She starts with a flash, which
gives the readers the picture of light sparked instantly, followed by a simile like the very air was
alight to show that everything around was burnt up. Then she uses the word a fraction of a second to
tell that just immediately after the flash, a bomb exploded. An interesting adjective most colossal
was used to show how gigantic it is. She then describes Sephy s movement when she was blown
off by, again, using a simile like a dry leaf in a high wind which picture the readers of Sephy being
blown away. A sentence and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malorie also compares the resounding sound in Sephy s head with the ringing sound. Short
sentences and questions are used to emphasize and questions the reader s mind, respectively. For
example, I lay in daze. Was I dead? Was this what it felt like to die? From the example, the writer
also keeps repeating similar words: daze, die, dead. The phrase what on earth had happened gives
a very strong feeling of what happened around Sephy. From my imagination, the picture of people
mobbing around, crying, screaming, and the Dundale center collapsing and suddenly went on
fire appears in my mind. The writer also uses several interesting phrases. For example, billowing
smoke shot out . This is effective, because the word billowing and shot out make me see that the
smoke is pouring out of the roof very quickly and spreading all around Sephy. Malorie again uses
a simile like the end of the world when Sephy was deafened and it was eerily quiet. When she was
deafened she is expressed to be panic stricken, this word gives the reader the picture of Sephy being
frightened, confused and upset. Later, when she can hear like normal,
Mamoon Akhtar Essay
Mamoon Akhtar lives in the slums of Tikiaparah, in Kolkata He is a man who has spent his life
giving everything that he could, and more, to the underprivileged. He has gained global
recognition for the same. Mamoon Akhtar is no fancy social activist or superstar who engages in
social work because it s in vogue. He is one of those who first brought it in vogue . He has seen
poverty, a deprived childhood and illiteracy first hand. And so, he didn t need any introduction to
it. He didn t take too much time to jump in and help the not so privileged ones as soon as he saw
an opportunity to do so. As a child, Mamoon Akhtar managed to study only upto ninth grade, after

Canadian resident who made the official website for SHM as a response to Akhtar s request on
Yahoo questions. The stories of the children who are being educated by Mamoon Akhtar are both
heart wrenching and strength giving, at the same time. Some of them were not only born in
extremely poor families but were also orphaned at a very young age, leaving them at the cruel
hands of destiny, which it seemed, had decided to force these innocent kids to lead a life of
deprivation, misery and helplessness. Akhtar rescued them all. Some of these kids were being
forced to engage in criminal activities like drug peddling, sometimes by their own families. Some
children simply can t afford schooling, they are more than happy to just have food in their stomach,
every once in a while. Even though SHM operates in an area that is predominantly Muslim, Akhtar
believes in secular education and equal opportunity for all, irrespective of religion, caste
Advantages And Disadvantages Of 4D Printing In The Future...
As indicated by Skylar Tibbitts, 4D printing is the capacity to program physical and organic materials
to change shape, change properties, and compute outside of silicon based matter. 4D Printing,
created as a coordinated effort between the Self Assembly Lab, Stratasys and Autodesk, is another
procedure for printing adjustable keen materials. 4D Printing involves multi material prints using the
Stratasys Connex printer with the additional capacity of shape change starting with one state then
onto the next, straightforwardly off the print bed. This method offers a streamlined way from
thought to full usefulness incorporated specifically with the materials, including; activation,
detecting and material rationale. Potential applications incorporate; robotics like behavior without
the dependence on complex electro mechanical devices and also versatile items, pieces of clothing or
mechanism that react to user requests and fluctuating situations.

With a solitary multi material print, an item or instrument can change from any 1D strand into 3D
shape, 2D surface into 3D shape or transform from one 3D shape into another. Utilizing just water, ...

Whales Evolution Research Paper
The earliest whales were land animals with long skulls and carnivorous teeth. Analysis of whale
skulls showed major morphological changes, including changes to the skull size, shape, teeth, and
nostrils. Fossil evidence shows that the trait of interest, the nostrils, can be found on fossils of the
earliest whales, dating back to about 50 million years ago. Evolution occurred multiple times since
then, each time resulting in the nostrils migrating further back on the skull. Eventually, the pair of
nostrils positioned itself right on top of the head. These nostrils are the blowholes we see positioned
on top of modern whales today. In addition, another momentous change in the nostrils occur when

The first is that early whales had nostrils located at the rostrum, and as they transitioned back into
water, evolution occurred and the nostrils migrated to the top of their head because it was more
favorable for underwater life. This allows whales to remain submerged in water while only
revealing their nostrils for gas exchange. Additionally, it can be hypothesized that the Odontocetes
gave up one blowhole to develop highly modified tissues designed for the production and
transmission of echolocation and communication sounds. Right whales (Mysticetes) on the other
hand, obtain food through filter feeding, a technique that does not require the same echolocation
feature used by dwarf sperm whales for hunting purposes. Therefore, they have no use for highly
modified tissues. Natural selection only selects for traits that are beneficial to the organism, and
therefore instead of a trade off between a blowhole and modified tissues, right whales retain both
blowholes and use it primarily for air breathing and perhaps olfaction. Having the two blowholes
allow for an increase in airflow, increasing the intake of air in a shorter
What Is Censorship In School Libraries

The Existence of Censorship in School Libraries
Whether books should be censored in school libraries is a serious, current problem. Many
individuals believe that censorship should be enforced in all school libraries. School books should be
age appropriate, follow the curriculum, and it should include a balance of all viewpoints. At times,
books can be atomic bombs, taking away from the community, leaving families broken. As Mae West
had said about censorship, There s no dignity anymore and I think that s very important, shows that
not having censorship takes away from our communities (West, 2016). Taking away our dignity,
values, character, and innocence. Censorship is only protecting us. Just as Henry Louis Gates had
said, Censorship is to art as lynching is to justice, and censorship is an art which requires practice
and effort (Gates, 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many books are challenged and removed from school libraries every year. From the interviews
conducted, 100% of parents believed that censorship should be enforced in school libraries (see
graphs 2 and 3). Having no censorship will increase fears in the parents of these children.
Willingly or unwillingly, these children will come home knowing things that parents regretted
their children finding for years. As Milos Forman had said, The worst evil and that s the product
of censorship is the self censorship, because that twists spines, that destroys my character because
I have to think something else and say something else, I have to always control myself, (Forman,
2014). No one shouldn t rely on self censorship because people may not be as safe as they think
they are. People may bump into new ideas that they aren t ready for yet. This would be a problem
for all young students. They need the adults in their lives to guide
