Corruption Of Optimism In Voltaire s Candide
The humourous perspective upon philosophy and the general follies of life constructs Candide as a
novel to transcend Voltaire s society and remain relevant to current day. As it is for his satirization
of various ideology, specially optimism and pessimism, that makes Voltaire s purpose apparent to
present day. As there is no perfect philosophyin which to partake in life, especially each one with
their own benefits and downfalls. And that a mixture of these beliefs result in a better line of
thinking. Thus, the characters in Candide demonstrate each stereotypical philosophy by alluding to
their respecting philosopher to portray Voltaires overall purpose.
Furthermore, Pangloss, as characterized by Voltaire for representing the affinity of optimism, ... Show

And since he values himself above Leibniz and Rousseau, Voltaire alludes to himself as the form
of Cacambo and James the Anabaptist. These characters demonstrate rational lines of thinking for
asserting wise courses of actions, resonating their reputations as being worthy fellows for the other
characters within (Candide, 87). Rather than always see the best or worse within situations, these
realists, or Voltaire himself, sees the events as hand as rational beings. To the reader, these
approaches are appropriate as compared to the outrageousness of Pangloss s or Leibniz s
everything always being for the best and Martin s or Rousseau s perspective upon men were created
by the forces of evil. And it s by Voltaire s major stereotyping these philosophies can the reader make
the distinctive difference between the two and where their faults lie. His allusions within these
characters satirizes the unsound thought patterns within the philosophies, pointing to the
disadvantages to each side of the spectrum. While optimism saw everything as always being right
and pessimism seeing everything as always having a corrupted source, the realist ideal fits between
the two to persuade the reader as this approach is more sound than the other
Essay On The Future Of Iv In Kenya
The National AIDS control council has done a lot of analytical work regarding the future of the
AIDS pandemic in Kenya and agrees that the future of the HIV response in Kenya will not be
determined solely by money but substantial financing resources will be needed if the rates of new
infections and AIDSdeaths are to be sharply lower by 2030. 87 percent of the financing for HIVin
Kenya is from development partners. The bad news is that some signs of donor fatigue are already
evident. Some donors seem to want to turn the page on AIDS assuming that this is a problem that
has been solved or that maintaining spending at or near current levels will be sufficient. Indeed, it is
clear that failing to follow through on stated commitments on HIV... Show more content on

Currently, the NACC through the division of strategy development is also working on incentives to
promote efficiency and effectiveness in HIV programming by focusing on the creation of financial
incentives to encourage sound AIDS programming.
Conditioning future support to HIV on the effective targeting of programs for those who need
them most will go a long way towards improving the efficiency of AIDS programmes. NACC is
also working on additional steps to ensure good value for each AIDS shilling spent by establishing
benchmarks for unit costs for well characterized HIV services delivered in the Country.
Principally, NACC is looking at HIV as an investment by focusing on the HIV service delivery
modes, identifying efficiency gains so that unit costs can be reduced and more people reached
through streamlined service delivery models without compromising on quality and outcomes.
NACC intends to use this information to come up with the fourth national strategic plan for HIV
and AIDS that is a state of the art investment plan for HIV that gives the efficiency gains by HIV
programme areas, optimize allocation of HIV resources as well as looking at the fiscal space
implications on HIV investments that are made in the country.
The future of Kenya s HIV and AIDS picture is pegged on the availability of resources with which
to scale up essential services. A sustained push to universal
Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian.
Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap.
The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo
who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello.
His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s
weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes
and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello
sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job
back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for
help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that
Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle
the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like
that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and
when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into
Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back.
The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the
stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act
4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of
a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an
unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to
get rid of it entirely. Iago tell Othello that killing Desdemona is the answer. Othello lost in self pity
and no reasoning left in his mind, agrees. Othello tells Iago, he will kill Desdemona and he
desposes Cassio. Iago s plan works and in the end, Othello and Desdemona die.
Iago s character is brilliant. Manipulation is a huge part of

Cause And Effects Of Malaria
Malaria is an infectious disease caused by a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium, a parasite which
lives inside its victims and consequently, inside their nutrient supply. Human malaria is specifically
carried and spread via the female mosquito of the genus Anopheles (Marcus Babcock 2009). There
are over 50 species of Plasmodium, only four of which are responsible for causing human malaria:
Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium malariae, Plasmodium ovale and Plasmodium vivax. P.
falciparum is the most common species, held responsible for 75% of the cases followed by P. vivax
causing 20%. P. falciparum accounts for the majority of deaths, however, recent evidence suggests P.
vivax malaria to be associated with potentially life threatening conditions similar to P. falciparum
(Nadjm Behrens 2012).
In 2015, an estimation of 212 million cases of malaria had been reported worldwide, with a
reduction of 22% since 2000 and a fall of 14% since 2010 (refer to Table 1) according to the World
Health Organisation 2016 malaria report. Malaria is a predominant concern in sub Saharan Africa
where about 81% of the global malaria cases and 90% of the deaths occur as seen in Figure 1 (Khosa
et al. 2013). Table 1. Estimated Malaria Cases, 2000 2015 Figure 1. Colour Scheme Distribution of
Malaria around the World
Initial signs and symptoms occur generally 8 25 days after infection and include headache, fever,
shivering, joint pain, vomiting, haemolytic anaemia, jaundice, haemoglobin, retinal damage and
convulsions (Mandell et al. 2005).
The disease is commonly transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito which introduces the
parasite into the human s blood, seen in Figure 2 (Klein 2013). When the mosquito penetrates
human skin to obtain a blood meal; it injects saliva mixed with an anticoagulant and if infected
with Plasmodium, it will also inject elongated sporozoites, modal spindle shaped asexual cells, into
the bloodstream of its victims. The sporozoites travel to the liver, where they enter liver cells and
rapidly divide asexually, this asexual division is known as schizogony. Schizogony generates the
next life cycle form called merozoites. The released merozoites invade other liver cells and enter the

The Color Of Water Character Analysis
Malala Yousafzai once stated, Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher
can change the world . In one s life, there is always someone or something steering them in a
direction. It can be as complex as an intervention held for someone, or as simple as a small talk
with someone that is idolized. In the short memoir, The Color of Water, by James McBride, James
takes the simple route. He is portrayed as a young careless boy throughout the story and starts going
into a downward spiral after deathapproaches those around him. Due to all of his bad habits such as
drugs and cutting class, he is sent to other family members and connects with a strange man on the
street corner. This man turns out to play a huge role in shaping what james will become. Throughout
James McBride s life, the most influential person on his identity was Chicken Man.
There are many ways that Chicken Man influenced James s identity. One of those ways was how
Chicken Man prevented James from going down a road that involved drugs, jail, and a waste of
his life. When James gets harrassed by a man at his job, he punches him in the face. Because of
this incident, James got fired. He then ran his idea to shoot the guy that got him fired by Chicken
Man, he is confused at the answer he got. Chicken man asked if that is , how you want to end up,
Goin to jail for him? (McBride 149) illustrating how Chicken Man is trying to influence James not
go down the path that will ruin his life. James
The Causes Of Social Injustice In The United States
America is supposed to be the land of dreams where any working man can strive and achieve the
same status as any privileged can possess. But with social injustice in America at an all time high,
this dream seems to be falling apart at the seams. Social injustice is simply another form of injustice.
Social Injustice can vary from one persons point of view to another. Ann Marie was a 36 years old,
she was a writing teacher who was coming back from a spa, missed her bus and decided to walk
home. The police stopped her on suspicion of prostitution. Officers said she that was looking into
the windows of passing vehicles. When she tried to show them the receipt from the spa, officers
took it from her. She was afraid that the only physical evidence that supported her case would be
gone, so she tried to take it back, knocking the police s notebook to the ground. That got her a
charge of harassment to go along with the prostitution accusation. She eventually beats both cases in
court. The social injustice for many people it can be seen as the few getting all the benefits with
little being trickled down to the few, and having to fight for the scraps. The social injustice is the fact
that the education of people is far from where it should be. People in the United States suffer from
the injustice in the politics, especially the criminals and immigrants. The injustice system affects lots
of people and their communities. The archetype of injustice can be found through stereotype,
