Zora Neale Hurston Influence
Many writers allow their personal experiences to influence their writing, but Zora Neale Hurston
used her life to influence others. Hurston took her personal experience and used it to show
impoverished black youth that they can be successful. The way she was raised influenced her and
created a woman who would pave the way for feminists to be recognized as a respectable group.
Hurston had a way with words that still, to this day, have an affect on youth and will affect future
generations.. Her childhood and her introduction to average American society developed Hurston
into a preacher of equal rights, a teacher of confidence, and a writer ahead of her time.
Hurston grew up very differently from other black children in her time. She was ... Show more

Hurston intended to show the beauty and wealth of genuine Negro material as a response to the
stereotyping of black people in literature (Draper 1068 1069). Sykes is shown as a successful
independent black man which was something not seen often in Hurston s time. Her material
mainly focused on black and black relations over black and white relations. By focusing on the
successful side of black life that she grew up with, Hurston was able to show black youth a
potential future for themselves that they may not have thought possible with their current
situation. Condemning those who oppressed African Americans and defying traditional norms
was Hurston s way of disrupting the social climate of the time (Champion). In her works, she was
able to shine a light on societal problems that she believed needed fixing. Literature was the only
way to fight because as a black woman she had no other ways to fight without incarceration.
Hurston intended to present the side of black people that many white people did not see, her
writings were important because they...[presented] characters who...[were] undeniably and
realistically human (Draper 1068). Hurston had to provide realistic black characters in a time that
black people were still seen as worthless by many. She wanted people to understand that white
people and black people were just people. Hurston wrote good characters, not good people, to
show that all races of people had bad eggs. The characters in Sweat were very realistic, whether
they be gossiping on the porch or abusing their wife, they are acting as real people do. They may
not be doing things that are morally right, i.e. being abusive, but that is a fault in humanity that all
races are guilty of. Hurston had seen many different types of people throughout her life and was
able to express these different personalities with expertise. Knowing how to write a character is just
as important as
Mesopredator Release Hypothesis
The removal of apex predators from an ecosystem can result in a surplus of mesopredators (Ripple,
2007). Mesopredators are located directly beneath apex predators on the trophic ladder and are
density limited by their apex predators, therefore keeping total predation pressure restricted within
ecosystems. When apex predators are lost, this inhibiting dynamic is removed, resulting in a
mesopredator release (Hollings, 2013; Wallach, 2015). In ecological communities where apex
predatordensities are low and mesopredator densities are high, high grazing and predationpressures
occur, thus altering the ecosystem s function (Wallach, 2015). In comparison to their apex predators,
the mesopredator s characteristically smaller size limits their hunting and consumption of large
herbivores, resulting in the high grazing associated with the release of herbivores from apex
predator control. The mesopredator release hypothesis and the trophic cascadetheory bring attention
to the effects of apex predator removal from ecosystems, specifically when displaying how the
increase in smaller predators affects prey species within a particular food web (Colman, 2015;
Hollings, 2013). Once released from the control of apex predators, theory predicts... Show more

The scientific community is increasing the number of studies dedicated to understanding the causes
and effects of trophic cascades, due in part to human actions that are immensely decreasing the
populations of apex predators worldwide. Since the mid 1900 s, numerous observations have noted
the direct, and indirect, effects of apex predators on smaller animal species and plant communities.
Although there is adequate evidence on the impact of apex predator removal on small scale
ecosystem functioning, a question remains as to the impact that will occur on the global
Analysis Of Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The transformation from an innocent girl to a grown woman could be extremely tremendous. In the
short story, Marigolds, by Eugenia Collier, shows how much Lizabeth has mature. As she is
maturing, she is starting to have the realization of the real world and the meaning of compassion. At
the time, the Great Depressionoccur and the marketing crash. The Great Depression affected families
and the world itself. Based on the short story, Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, shows that one cannot
have both compassion and innocence at once from the character development of Lizabeth.
Realizing what you have done, but not knowing what exactly. Children could do the cruelest
things, and not realize the harm that they re putting others in. In the short story, Lizabeth isn t
thinking before her actions that actually is causing damage for Miss Lottie. Joey and Lizabeth is
near MIss Lottie s home, but then Zing Joey sent a pebble into the blossoms, and another
marigold was beheaded (Collier, pg. 27). Lizabeth is clueless to her surrounding of the world that
she was living in causing her to make terrible decision that was actually causing harm for others.
Even though, Lizabeth thought it was all for fun and a joke, Miss Lottie did not think it was,
making Lizabeth feel ashamed. She is feeling guilty of what she has down and starting to realize
her mistakes. Innocence is one thing, but maturity is another that you go through. In the short
story, Lizabeth was starting to have the realization of her surrounding. She noticed Miss Lottie
and called her out, M miss Lottie! I scrambled to my feel and just stood there and stared at her,
and that was the moment when childhood faded and womanhood began (Collier, pg. 30).
Lizabeth notice the sad face; weary eyes of Miss Lottie. Se realize that the witch isn t a witch, but
is an old lady that is trying to make the best of the current situation of the world. As she stare at
Miss Lottie s face, she realize of how much regret she has and began to mature into this grown
woman. A girl with innocence mature into this grown woman has changed her whole realization of
the world that she is living.
As a caterpillar transitions into a beautiful butterfly, just like Lizabeth s transformation

Science Reflection
In the 4th quarter of 7th Grade Science the class finished the IMYC unit of curiosity which focused
on different forms of energy and moved on to a unit called respect where the topics were electricity
and magnetism. Formative assessments continued to consist of practice questions related to the
content we were studying and evaluation questions about experiments we did. The summative
assessments for the quarter were a lab report about a heat insulators experiment designed by the
students, a test about different forms of energy, and an electromagnetic technology poster project.
Next year students in 8th grade at HIS will continue to study an integrated series of science topics.
Anushka has made great progress this year in terms of understanding the structure and form for
writing lab reports. Her insulators lab report correctly included all necessary areas of the rubric and
during the actual experiment she demonstrated strong leadership skills and patience with some
group members. She consistently seeks feedback about her assignments while she is completing
them and after the assignment has been graded as well to find ways to improve. Throughout the
course of the year she has always applied extra effort and this was again demonstrated with the
quality of her electromagnetic technology poster. I have appreciated her strong effort and dedication
to class this year.
Dimple applied more effort this quarter and improved both the quality of her written lab reports and
her time

Jack Kerouac
from Heaven

Jack Kerouac spent his creative years writing in a prosperous post world war II America. He was
in many ways a very patriotic person who had no problem making known his love for his country ,
particularly within his literature. It was, quite literally, America that he was in love with. Taking
cues from writers such as Whitman, he embraced the American landscape as a field for spiritual
cultivation. Kerouac was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kerouac was a devoted student of the Buddhist way and would often impress his peers with his
knowledge of the Sutras and other Buddhist texts and ideas. This is particularly interesting when it is
considered that these peers were other students of Buddhism such as Gary Snyder or even Philip
Whalen, who is an ordained Zen monk. In fact, Kerouac was so immersed in Buddhist thought that
in 1956 he completed the manuscript to what would become a 420 page book titled Some Of The
Dharma, which was a collection of notes and thoughts on various ideas taken from the Sutras.
Included also were numerous poems and prose poems, which were attempts to transliterate the
ancient wisdom of Buddhism into a modern context, applicable to the western intellectual and
spiritual journeyman. Some of the Dharma was to be a study guide for the beginning practice of
Kerouac amp;#8217;s good friend and companion Allen Ginsberg.
While Kerouac was writing what was perhaps his best and certainly one of his most spiritually
driven novels, Desolation Angels, he was also writing a poem to accompany the novel which was
titled Desolation Blues. Although written after Kerouac was no longer up on Desolation Peak
serving as a fire lookout in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it was a reflection upon the many
contemplations provoked by the solitude and serenity of the time he spent alone atop the mountain.
From the opening line he has recognized an inherently Buddhist view of the world
Narrative Essay About My Butterfly
There was a time when my butterfly flew away. Before, I met a very special person. Really, my
attention was on his easy going personality, goodness and charisma. On those Summer days, the
garden was full of colored flowers. Constantly, the sun went down and the moon came out; the
wind was fresh and our hearts betrayed. After, I met with my butterfly in the back room.
Automatically, he embraced me in his warm arms; my heart shake and my desires sprouted. There
were shivering and sweating. However, inside the small chamber lusting vanished; every time, I
realized, it went too far. Every morning, he looked at me and apologized. we didn t mean to hurt
anybody; it was just a magic attraction. In many other occasions, I met with my butterfly in the back
room to talk and share about feelings.
One day, in the small alcove, my butterfly touched my neck and hair, I never met a person like
you, you are so different , he said; in a sweet and slow tone of voice. He pulled me into his arm,
we touched each other, we detailed how much we missed and loved. There was a front window,
where we walked to see the flowers in the garden. A white sheer hanged from the highest point of
the wall, it flew all around, the wind blew and the curtains fell on top of us. This is when he kissed
me, ecstasy was so high; it was difficult to stop. Silently, the flowers smell so sweet and the wind
kept blowing, while, the sheers wrapped us; we laughed and hug each other. Then, I removed the
sheers from the
