Nuclear Power Plant Advantages And Disadvantages
Every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on clean renewable energy and one more
dollar spent on making the world a comparatively dirtier and a more dangerous place, because
nuclear power and nuclear weapons go hand in hand (Mark Z. Jacobson).
Nuclear power plants are widely considered to be one of the most effective methods of producing
electricity, however, they come with disastrous potentials. They are more preferred than the toxic
burning of fossil fuel, which produces high amounts of greenhouse gases (Health Research Funding).
However, I believe that the disadvantages and potential hazards of using nuclear power plants
demean the advantages, and thus they should not be considered as a solution to energy problems.
The disadvantages include the usage of non renewable fuel and the potential of long lasting
destructive effects on the environment and health. Health effects
Accidents
A nuclear power plant acts like a thermal power station in which nuclear reactors act as the heat
source (European Nuclear Society). All typical conventional thermal power stations work similarly,
where heat is used to generate steam which drives a turbine connected to a generator that produces
electricity (European Nuclear Society). There are four hundred nuclear power plants functioning in
the world, with many in the United States and Japan (Nuclear Energy Institute, World Statistics ).
One of the main drawbacks of using nuclear power plants is
Review Of The Fall Of Constantinople Essay
Jeffery Jacob World History [Teacher name here] December 21st, 2016 The Fall of Constantinople
Byzantium was one of the many Greek city states that stratled along the coasts of the Aegean Sea. As
an abundant source of Grains, fish, and trade, she played a pivotal role as a landing for Darius
colossal army against the Greeks; a battleground between Athens and Sparta during the
Pelloponessian war; and a prized tributary under Roman supervision. The Roman Emperor,
Constantine I, renamed the city after himself and the newly christened Constantinoplegrew to eclipse
Rome as the greatest Capital of Europe. Even after the continent was plunged into the so called
Dark Ages ; protected by the indominable Theodosian Wall, The Queen of Cities , as the Greek
speaking Byzantines called her, retained her position as the most prestine City of the early Middle
Ages. And became the seat of power for the great Basilieis, Greek plural for Emperors, and the
venerated Patriarchs of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Yet the middle ages made life more turbulant
for the aged Byzantine Empireas it lost vast swathes of land to the surging Muslim Caliphate;
struggled with internal corruption throughout its lifetime; clung desperately to its commercial power
in the face of competition from merchant republics such as Genoa and Venice; and embroiled itself
into several centuries of conflicts with the Turks over control of Anatolia, modern day Turkey.
However, its Religious influence grew
Sensitivity Analysis
In general sensitivity analysis, the most influencing parameters are identified through building a
statistical linear model, partial t test, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Sensitivity analysis was
conducted through Design of experiments (DoE) in order to determine the most influencing
geological parameters on the Gas Assisted Gravity Drainage process performance. DoE combines
multi level of each parameter to create many computer experiments evaluated by the compositional
reservoir simulation to obtain the flow response factor. In this study, the parameters adopted for
sensitivity analysis are horizontal permeability, anisotropy ratio $K_{v}/K_{h}$, and porosity, all
given for the entire reservoir. First, more than 80 computer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, this fact can be also observed in Figure ~\ref{fig:sa1lm} that decorates the component
residual plots for each parameter. If a variable has a horizontal straight line of residual, it has no
effect on the response and should be removed from the linear model, specifically the porosity
variable. Figure ~\ref{fig:sa1_lm} shows the basic diagnostic plots for the full linear model. The
residuals vs. fitted plot is used to determine if the linear relationship between the predictors
(parameters) and outcome factors are captured by the model. An accurate model will have a
residuals vs. fitted plot with a horizontal line with residuals above and below it without forming a
pattern or grouping, as seen in the top left plot. Moreover, the normal Q Q plot, shown in the top
right plot, is used to determine if the residuals are normally distributed. A good normal
distribution will have a normal Q Q plot which follows a straight line, as do our results.
Furthermore, the Scale Location plot shows if the residuals are spread equally along all ranges of
the predictors. Ideally, the residuals should be randomly spread across all fitted values and not
tend to one area, as ours do in the bottom left plot. Likewise, the Residuals vs Leverage plot
determines how big of an impact outliers points have on the regression curve. Additionally, outliers
away from the Cook s distance will have a large
Barriers To Accessibility Of Abortion Essay
Barriers in the accessibility of abortion services by pregnant women that are subjective to being
marginalized, elicits a lack of maternal foetal attachment and possibly a dependency on alcohol.
Attaining effective contraception and having access to reproductive health services is problematic
for marginalized women such as immigrants, refugees, vulnerable populations, women of color, and
poor women. Some of the obstacles of abortionaccessibility include shortage of abortion doctors
or clinics, travel and time expenses and restrictive laws (Fried, 2000). For example, there are no
abortion providers in PEI, one service provider in Yukon and one service provider in Nunavut
(Downie Nassar, 2007). The government s lack of accountability to fund for more abortion services,
brings about countless... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since abortions are recommended in the early stages of pregnancy because it is safer for the mother
and less problematic surgically, mothers cannot risk delays or waiting lists. Consequently, they are
inclined to travel to an alternate province or community in order to acquire access to an abortion
clinic. Mothers who want to confidentially abort their child, especially teenage mothers, will have
difficulties migrating far for a certain time duration and validating the reasons for their absenteeism.
Subsequently, they might attain alternative approaches to manually abort the baby. If they do seek
clinics far away, they might encounter additional barriers like language, biased counseling, parental
consent requirements, policies, and financial issues which can terminate the abortion process
(Downie Nassar, 2007). Furthermore, some countries or states have anti abortion legislations where
abortion clinics are completely

The prison was built in 1829 to shape the minds and souls of its residents through the rigorous and
strict rules of Quaker beliefs. Cells represented personal chapels with skylights to represent the
light of God. It was the only light they saw since they had their heads bagged whenever they left
their cells. The prison did not live up to its design, although it did house two of the most notorious

The Cost Of College Textbooks
With college textbooks on the rise, it is no surprise that college students are unable to purchase the
appropriate textbooks for their courses or they are choosing alternative courses altogether. The cost
of college textbooks has increased by an alarming amount of three times the rate of inflation,
approximately 1,041 percent. The need for institutions of higher education to find ways to make
textbooksmore affordable to their students is stronger than ever. Unfortunately, most college and
universitybookstores are made for profit which inflates the cost of their textbooks and requires
students to look elsewhere such as online, purchasing from previous students, or renting from the
campus library.
Over the last decade, the price of college textbooks has increased by 88 percent; 25 percent more
than the rise in cost of tuition and fees. The College Board has estimated that the average college
student had spent around 1,249 dollars for the 2015 16 school year on textbooks alone. The textbook
companies and campus bookstores are reaping in the profits at the college students expense by
decreasing the success rate in each course when a student is attempting the course with no material.
As students are faced with these rising textbook costs, many choose not to purchase their textbooks.

FEMA Failure
When a disaster such as a hurricane takes place, the first responsibility is of the state s governor to
make a formal request for a state of disaster and receive the necessary assistance and aid to the
affected area (The Disaster Hanbook National Edition, 1998). The President of the United States of
America must make a declaration of emergency and major disaster to initiate the effort to the Federal
Emergency Management Agency(FEMA) (The Disaster Hanbook National Edition, 1998). Once a
disaster has been declared, the U.S president will send supplementary funds to the state and local
efforts to aid the affected population (The Disaster Hanbook National Edition, 1998). In order for
funding to be dispersed to the area in need, the President of the United Statesmust allow this action to
take place.
The Federal Response Plan implements the Stafford Act (Public Law 93 288, as amended) which
verifies what qualifies to be considered a true disaster (The Disaster Hanbook National Edition,
1998). The Stafford Act also coordinates twelve federal agencies to fulfill twelve emergency support
functions: Transportation Department of Transportation, Communication ... Show more content on

Instantly following hurricane Katrina, FEMA was hesitant and did not accept help from non
government organizations, The American Red Cross was not allowed into New Orleans following
the disaster and was unable to supplement the government s response (American Red Cross 2005).
According to the Government Accountability Office, during the hurricane Katrina catastrophe, the
failure to designate a single official to lead the overall federal response made matters worse (Fessler,
2006). The Government Accountability Office also noted that Homeland Security Secretary Michael
Chertoff never named the storm as a catastrophic event which would have activated a much greater
federal response (Fessler,
Migration Interview Essay
On April 15th, 2017 I interviewed a member of the Tongva tribe, which present day Long Beach
now inhabits. The tribal member, who asked to not be named, told me all about Long Beach s long
history as it was once a tribe and religious center and of CSU Long Beach s history as an ancient
burial site named Puvunga. The interview changed my understanding of my college campus and the
city that I now live in. It has made me more sensitive to the struggles that Native Americans faced
and still continue to face. The history of migration to Californiahad great effect on the Puvunga
village and Tongva Tribe. The migration west in the 19th century forced Native Americans out of
their sacred lands and tribes as people from the North and South occupied... Show more content on

The campus uprooted the burial sites and tried to keep them in their archaeology department, but
with the fight of my interviewee and many of his fellow tribal members, they were able to have
the bodies reburied in their original burial sites. It took a long and hard few years for the Tongva
tribe to get justice, as they had to be interrogated by many attorneys and prove their history in the
Long Beach area through multiple documents to prove their genealogy to the buried people. I also
learned that Puvunga is not only a burial site, but a place for ceremony and prayer. It is one of the
largest religious site for Native Americans in the entire country, however most people do not
recognize it as such an important landmark. This interview changed my understanding of the Long
Beach area and my campus. I realized that this community dates way further back than the westward
expansion of the United States and people should educate themselves on the rich history of Long
Beach. I learned how awful the United States people and government have treated Native
Americans and how their needs to be more justice for the people who were here long before we
were. In conclusion, interviewing a tribal member of the Tongva tribe helped me to understand Long
Beach s diverse history more and to begin to understand the great struggles
