Comparing The Protagonists In Katherine Applegate s Home...
Throughout the progression of Katherine Applegate s novel, Home of the Brave, several characters
are established in terms of both protagonists and antagonists to exhibit the development of plot and
events subsequent to their introductions. To begin with, one of the most prominent characters that is
both involved in and narrates the story typically known as the protagonist, is Kek a young boy from
Sudan who has fled to America in hopes of seeking refuge from his war torn country. Specifically,
Kek was forced to leave behind his family in Africa and move to the United States from a refugee
camp in Sudan after his camp was attacked with only him and his mother as survivors; though she
was still missing. Kek s father and brother, Lual, were unfortunately killed in the encroachment.
Nevertheless, Kek remains optimistic and hopeful that he will thrive in a new country where both
the language, people, and environment are foreign and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader is capable of learning that even in such a troublesome environment, Kek is able to
animadvert new aspects of a country he was unfamiliar with calling airplanes a flying boat and
characterizing traffic lights as red and round like a baby sun. It is imperative to Kek s personality
that he is characterized as a caring, self reliant young adult who struggles to coincide in a country
that offers both opportunities and hindrances in a path for a more desirable and improved life.
Moreover, it becomes clear throughout the progression of the novel that Kek is extremely self reliant,
determined, and set to achieve whatever he sets out to do; while still remaining true to his African
heritage and
Requesting a Writ of Mandamus in Nj
I. Why do we want a Writ of Mandamus?
In general, a writ of mandamus can be described as an order, commanding the performance of an
act that the law requires as a clearly defined duty, arising from an office, trust, or station. 55 C.J.S.
Mandamus § 1. Moreover, a writ of mandamus may be issued to command a nongovernmental
body, such as a medical licensing board, to perform a specified duty imposed by law, and can also
be invoked to control flagrant abuses of discretion. Id. For example, in some instances, upon judicial
review, if a court is satisfied that the applicant is entitled to a license, it may order the license issued
notwithstanding the boards denial of the license. 70 C.J.S. Physicians and Surgeons § 38.

Ceiwen Reilly Summary
The protagonist of this story is Ceinwen Reilly. A witty and fashionable 21 year old lady who is
slightly obsessed with classic films. Born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, she moves to New York
where she works at a vintage clothing store for minimum wage. She lives in an apartment
building at Avenue C with two roommates. She likes to overdress, which is almost always the
case because she likes to wear vintage clothing. Ceinwen started to smoke cigarettes so she could
stop biting her nails. She also always gets lipstick on her chin when she eats, Speaking of eating,
she does not eat very much, only eating a small portion of every meal. Towards the end of the
book, she quits her job and Harry Engelman gets her a job as his secretary after Matthew learns that
she is a typing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She used to be a seamstress and an actress, though she wasn t very well known. The only film she
starred in was lost for decades. Miriam sits with her legs crossed at the ankle and she smokes as
well. She is cold to everyone. Only giving curt answers. I m a widow living alone on the Lower
East Side. I play mah jongg with some friends uptown. Sometimes we go out to dinner. I read
books and I go to museums and lectures. I don t even go to the movies anymore (Loc 2139) is
what she says about herself. Towards the end of the book, she gets infuriated at Ceinwen for
going behind her back and searching for the lost film. Two of the most lovable characters are Jim
and Talmadge, Ceinwen s roommates. They are both sassy, hilarious, good at giving advice, and
both homosexual. Talmadge is a short blonde who works at the same store Ceinwen works. He is
a recovered alcoholic who is not a subtle flirt. Jim is a skinny young man who manages a tiny
costume jewelry store on the Upper East Side. Like Ceinwen, both Jim and Talmadge smoke. They
both encourage Ceinwen s love for classic films and they adore her fashion
American Kitefliers Research Paper
Did you know that there is something in the United States called the American Kitefliers
Association? And there s something called competitive stunt kiting. As you might expect, the
people who compete in stunt kiting competitions are interesting folks. At Collectors Weekly, they
ve got a profile of Richard Dermer. He is a pizza shop owner and kite collector. The walls of Dermer
s pizza joint are covered in kites from all over the world. That is impressive enough. But it s not
his only accomplishment. Dermer worked at Hideaways, one of the first pizza places in
Oklahoma. It opened in the late 1950s, when pizza was an exotic food. He bought the joint in
1960. He delivered pizzas in these weird Volkswagen Beetles. They were painted like Herbie and

He told Collectors Weekly: I was very much a novice, but I started learning. And the more we got
into going to kite festivals and collecting kites, the more I discovered and the deeper the subject
became. My kite book library now runs over a hundred volumes. I learn stuff new every time I go
to an event. And I think the kites out in the garage are multiplying when the lights are out. What
does Dermer s collection and hobby bring to the United States? It brings an international
perspective and history on kite flying. In India, for example, kite flying is a fierce. It is a
sometimes violent sport. In Thailand, kite battles reflect the war of the sexes between men and
women. Kites were used in World War II. They were used to distract German planes and for target
practice. When Dermer started stunt kiting, it was pretty new. All the kits were triangular, they all
looked about the same. But soon, Dermer told Collectors Weekly, that changed. In the 80s and 90s,
kites went through quite a developmental phase where they were getting better and better as new
lighter, stronger materials were being developed. Tubular fiberglass became obsolete when tubular
graphite came
Characterization And Internal Characterism In Kurt...
The world isn t perfect, true but it shouldn t have to be, we are humans and we make mistakes.
Sometimes we wish everything could be perfect, yet that may end up making things worse. We
shouldn t try to be perfect like Dr. Hitz thinks it should be. We should just be thankful for what we
have now. In 2BRO2B, Kurt Vonnegutuses characterization and internal conflictto stress the idea
sometimes things aren t as perfect as they seem. Kurt Vonnegut uses Characterization to develop
the fact that things aren t as perfect as they seem. He does this by mentioning different points of
views for different characters. He or she is going to live on a happy, roomy, clean, rich planet,
thanks to population control. Dr. Hitz says how good of a life Wehling s childis going to live due to
population control, this shows how he views population control. Dr. Hitz believes that having set
up the very first gas chamber for population control is an accomplishment. Leora Duncan admires
Dr. Hitz and that s why she s beyond thankful to stand next to him in the portrait being painted of
the happy garden of life. This shows how some people feel about Dr. Hitz and honor him for
making the first gas chamber. Wehling, on the other hand, thinks it s wrong when he has to pick
which of his three children he wants to live because he only has one volunteer to be executed in the
gas chamber. All I have to do is pick out which one of the triplets is going to live, then deliver my

Teaching Music History Today s Classroom Essay
Teaching Music History In Today s Classroom

In today s music classrooms, one typically does not hear students talking about music history. In the
state of Ohio, the 5 12 music standards require that some aspect of music history be incorporated into
each grade level. Whether they teach band, choir, orchestra, or general music, most times our Ohio
teachers are not meeting the music history standards. Our students are loosing the valuable
education of the importance of music and the history behind it. If we do not continue to teach our
students about the history of music, they will not be interested and continue on traditions that we
have today, such as going to symphony orchestra concerts. No matter what type of music class they
are involved in, our students deserve the best music education possible, and should be taught about
the history of music. In most Ohio schools, one of the requirements of students is to take some
type of music class each year. Most times, students have the option to choose which class they
want, but the standards must still be covered in every music class. Recently, our Ohio teachers have
lacked in providing the students the knowledge they need in order to cover the music history
standards. The history of music is one of those topics that most music teachers do not enjoy, which
means that they also do not want to teach it. Just like we have to do some things in daily life that
we do not want to do, teachers also have to teach things they may not
Nathaniel William Bradford Compare And Contrast
The name Nathaniel William Bradford yields different results for the two different charts. After
using the Agrippan chart, the result is 6. This defines Nathaniel as a peace lover who is stable and
trustworthy while yet jealous and possessive. However, using the Chaldean chart, the name results
in a 7. This makes Nathaniel a quiet person who likes to sit and think. He is then rather introverted,
maybe even hard to reach and reserved. Nathaniel could be someone who is intuitive too much
sometimes and yet an unusual, wise person. These two interpretations do not go hand in hand very
well. Nathaniel is either someone who is very affectionate and loving or someone who leaves a lot
to chance by pulling away from others. As a 7 he is not attached
