Discuss The 11 Common Areas Of Intercultural Misunderstanding
Case Study Analysis: Discuss the 11 Common Areas of Intercultural Misunderstanding

June 20, 2015) Abstract

Nowadays, many companies have prompted business establishments to expand its network across
cultures so that they can keep up being culturally competence in the internal business world
(Vennapoosa, C., 2012, July). The importance of cross cultural competence skill is becoming
progressively important for many worldwide companies. In order to competitively succeed in the
global marketplace, managers and professionals need to possess cross cultural sensitivity awareness

She wanted to find half a dozen enthusiastic Japanese representatives to market a line of
pharmaceuticals in Japan. After completing ten interviews, Margaret was dumfounded. Not one
applicant spoke up in a direct, forceful manner, in spite of his or her stellar academic record and
recommendations. Not one met her eye to eye for very long. None seemed confortable speaking
openly and frankly about accomplishments and aspirations.
Margaret reported her discouraging interview results to the Vice President of Asian Market for the
drug company only to endure the most embarrassing lecture of her life. To speak up, she learned
from the Vice president, can be taken as impertinence, especially if one emphasizes personal
accomplishments. To meet the eyes in the business situations is, in many Asian cultures, an
indication of disrespect or even hostility (Bell, A.H. Smith, D.M., 2010). In this scenario, Margaret
Owens could have prevented this uncomfortable moment with her Vice President, if only she was
culturally sensitive and knowledgeable about the Asian culture. Also, she could have got the right
team for her drug company.
Recapping and analyzing the relevant facts Margaret Owens was looking for enthusiastic Japanese
representatives for a drug company in Japan. After conducting about ten interviews, she felt like not

The Rican Family Institute Clinic
The Puerto Rican Family Institute clinic in Brooklyn is currently undergoing a new organizational
structure due to a high turnover of recent employees. The previous director for the clinic had been
in the same position for 25 years, and once she left, the structure started to decline. The new director,
James Chavez, has been overseeing the clinicfor a year now, and the clinic has been evolving ever
since. Due to such a drastic change in roles, the clinic has been using a lateral organizational
structure to help the director and keep the flow going. Since the clinic in Brooklyn is smaller, there
is a lot of cohesiveness that happens within various departments. The director always has the final
say, but many times, the staff will work together to help one another. I have received a lot of
guidance due to the lateral structure, and I am thankful for that. The clinic has many full time staff
clinicians and the majority have a background in social work. Since the director comes from a social
work background also, there is a strong social work presence. The social worker s role is to
provide one on one psychotherapy, give a pre diagnostic impression, and complete treatment plans.
They also assess for strengths, goals, and triggers to provide clients with a strong therapeutic
experience. Services are being approached and delivered thoroughly because the clinic recently went
through various audits in the past few years. There is a specific way that they like to have things

Illusory Causation Essay
Extensive research has shown the causes of false confessions can be attributed to a phenomenon
known as illusory causation. Illusory causation is a phenomenon which happens when, people
attribute unwarranted causality to a stimulus simply because it is more noticeable or salient than
other available stimuli. (Lassiter, 2002) Illusory causation phenomenon can be seen most notable on
how people evaluate legal evidence leading to prejudicial effects. (Lassiter, 2002) Evidence such as,
videotaped confessionscamera perspectives can vastly influence the jurors judgment. Videotaped
confessions are most commonly recorded with the camera focused on the suspect this in turn leads
mock juror to judge that the confessions were more voluntary and most likely make them guilty.
(Lassiter, 2002)Furthermore, integration techniques also play a role in false confessions such as non
assaultive psychology manipulation. (ct. Kassin Kichel, 1996),cited in (Lassiter,2002). In a... Show

(Lassiter, 2002) The researches made up mock confessions and used elements found in real
interrogations. Stage one was split up to eight experiments with five being conducted in 5 minutes.
The remaining three was more developed using actual police interrogation transcripts lasting 30
minutes. They found that videotaped recording focused on the suspect did in fact caused the
confessions to appear more voluntary. The biasing effect of camera perspective showed that it
influenced judgment of voluntariness, but also effects the likelihood of guilt and sentencing of the
suspect. (Lassiter, 2002) They also found the sentencing for the suspects were more sever.
Furthermore, Lassiter (2002) asked the mock jurors to only focus on the content of the confession
and not on how the confession was presented. However, the jurors still experienced the prejudicial
effect of camera
Summary Of Retreat Of The Elephants

Retreat of the Elephants is a book in which the author Mark Elvin presents two large issues: How has
the Chinese culture changed in the past four thousand years? And, in what ways did the distinctive
characteristics of this ancient civilization effect the process of change? Elvin separates his study into
three sections. The first section is Patterns in which he illustrates the environmental history of China,
describing some of the changes the country went through environmentally and economically. The
author also explains the reasoning behind the title of the book. Four thousand years ago, there were
elephants in the area that was later to become Beijing (located in the Northeast) as well as in most
of the rest of what was later to be China.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My President Was Black Summary
My President Was Black written by Ta Nahesi Coates has many arguments between Coates and the
former president Barack Obama. They both had many differences and similarities throughout this
passage. Barack Obama is the only black man that could of have pulled of the job of being
President in this racist White America . The reason why he pulled it off is because of his great
personality, the way he sees the United Statesas a whole and his policies. I believe in this because in
My President Was Black there is many evidence that can prove my fact about Barack Obama.
President Barack Obama personality is one of a kind. Many people believes that there won t be an

Measures Of Association Are A Type Of Descriptive...
Measures of association are a type of descriptive statistic used in order to find any variables that
are related to each other. The associations created by chance among variables tend to decrease in a
larger sample size. There are three components to measures of association; the direction of the
association, the strength of the association, and the statistical significance of the association.
Depending on what is being measured it is important to choose the correct method for determining
associations. For example, if one is looking only at nominal variables, then it would be best to use
the lambda method for detecting association. Some other tests for measures of association are
Somer s D test, Cramer s V test, Phi test, and the Gamma test. A regression analysisdetermines how
strong an association is among a single dependent variable and independent variables. It also used to
explain any differences that are seen in the dependent variables by using information from the
independent variables. ( Regression example: descriptive analysis ). Typically, when running any
type of regression analysis, there are a few factors that are taken of special interest. These include the
strength and direction of the associations (inverse or positive relationship), which independent
variables are actually important for influencing the dependent variable, and, with given independent
variables, being able to predict a set of values for the dependent variable. When running a regression
Tourette Syndrome Research Papers
Tourette syndrome is a disorder that affects people worldwide, no matter what age, ethnic group,
or race. It is a disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive motor or vocal actions called tics.
Though not much is known about how TS is passed on, how it can be prevented, or the causes,
there is still research being conducted on how TS can be treated and about TS itself.
Not much is known about how TS is passed on over generations or the causes. Yet that does not stop
scientists from forming guesses. Scientists once believed that it was an autosomal dominant
disorder. Though this has been dismissed as false, there are other ideas of where this disorder comes
from. One hypothesis says that TS comes from a mutation on the SLITRK1 gene because this has
been found in few people with TS. But this is not proven to be the sole cause of TS. That of which
is not known.

Medicine such as Neuroleptics, Risperidone, and Fluphenazine have all shown progress in lessening
the occurrence of tics. Therapy has also shown promising results in those diagnosed with TS.
Therapies such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Comprehensive behavioral Intervention for
Tics (CBIT) have both shown great progress in decreasing the occurrence and complexity of the tics.
The outlook for Tourette s syndrome is hopeful. High quality research is being conducted by
medical professionals and support groups such as Tourette s Association of America. This is a group
that teaches people about Tourette s and provides support for those diagnosed and their family
members. It provides information on Tourette s syndrome and shows the complications that those
with the disorder and their family members have to go through. Tourette s syndrome is a complex
disorder that affects those with the disorder and those around

Man Who Was Almost a Man Essay
What does it mean to be a man? How does one qualify for the title? Is the term man simply referring
to male human beings, or does it hold a greater measure of meaning in society. In order to get more
insight into this subject matter, I consulted, The Tormont Webster s Encyclopedic Dictionary . As I
anticipated, the first definition for man stated as following: An adult human being as distinguished
from a female . This definition, did not surprise me, but what did ,was what followed it , it stated: A
male human being endowed with such qualities as courage, strength, and fortitude, considered
characteristic of manhood. To be a man in our society one must posses such qualities, along with
honor, reliability and endurance. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dave s adoration and oppsetion with the gun is seen throughout the story. The way he treats the

inanimate object, He stood up and stared at the gun as though it were a living thing. He gritted
his teeth and kicked the gun. Yuh almos broke mah arm! (Wright378) Dave is amazed at the guns
power, he kicks and shouts at it as if how dear the gun that he loves so much try to hurt him. He
loves to hold the gun, he loves to touch it, he loves to feel it against his skin. An example of these
actions is seen on page 337, ...He lay turning it slowly in his hands. He broke it, took out the
cartridges, felt them, and then put them back...he slid out of bed, got a long strip of old flannel
from a trunk, wrapped the gun in it, and tied it to his naked thigh while it was still loaded. (Wright

The Major Causes Of The Glorious Revolution
Major Causes of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 The Glorious Revolution of 1688 was the
successful invasion of England by the Dutch Republic lead by William of Orange. William of
Orange s invasion of England was in large part due to the political division occurring in England
from the periods before. The English nobles were uneasy with the current monarchy, King James II,
during the time before the Glorious Revolution. This uneasiness began during the Restoration
period of England between 1660 and 1688. King Charles II ruled from 1660 to 1685, when he
dies and his brother James II succeeds him and rules until 1688. From 1660 to 1667, King
Charles II rules with his leading minister Edward Hyde and the Cavalier Parliament under an
Anglican Royalist consensus. This period of time restored the natural political and social order for
England. The Clarendon Code is passed during this time and secures the Church of England s
supremacy over the country s religious life, by making it difficult for people from other religions to
hold their own churches. The Clarendon Code consisted of the Corporation Act of 1661, the Act of
Uniformity of 1662, the Conventicle Act of 1664, and the Five Mile Act of 1665.
Then from 1665 to 1667, the second Anglo Dutch War is fought and the Dutch were victorious.
This War was caused by King Charles II s hate of the Dutch politics and its housing of former
English radicals and exiles and for an increase of England s naval development and revenue.

The Laramie Project, By Moses Kaufman Essay
Introduction
Moses Kaufman is the producer of the successful play The Laramie Project after a horrific incident
that occurred in Laramie. Members of the artistic group of Kaufman s, traveled to Laramie to find
out more about the horrific incidence. The main aim of the whole project was to find the emotions,
reactions, and reflections that the people of Laramie manifested concerning the beating and
subsequent death of a twenty three year old college student (Gale, 2016). A lot of questions were
raised concerning the death as people had different point of views. Some thought it was a hate
crime, others thought it was just a brutal assault or a form of robbery. Four hundred interviews were
conducted so as to come up with the reasons behind the brutal murder straight from the town folks.
The main issue was how homosexuality was defined in the crime. The Laramie Project, questioned
the rights of the LGBT+ group. For example, why were Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders
discriminated by the community and the society as a whole even though their rights were
constitutional?

Borders and Boundaries in Amitav Ghosh s The Shadow Lines:
A Postcolonial Study

The Shadow lines is an award winning novel by Amitav Ghosh. The historical events like the
Swadeshi Movement, Second World War, partition of India and communal riots of 1963 64 which
took place in Calcutta and Dhaka are all mentioned. The concept of boundaries is an important one
for the postcolonial world writer s .This novel discusses these lines across cultures and boundaries
and tries to study them. These borders and boundaries not only divided the people but also
relocated them from their own country. The story is told in first person narrative and all the events

problems discussed by Amitav Ghosh. The concept of borders and how the life of people changed
and what are the effects of partition on them. He discussed the concept of partition by different point
of views through his different characters. Through this work he questioned the concept of borders
and according to him they are just done for the political purposes and they are just arbitrary. These
borders further enhance the trouble by creating differences among people and that affects their
mutual relationship. Amitav Ghosh through his work tries to explain that these borders have the
same effect on people on both the sides of the borders. Both the sides suffer the same violence. He
want to unify people and through The Shadow Lines he want to explain that unity is one of the
