Essay on The Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls
The Role of the Inspector in An Inspector Calls

An Inspector Calls is a play with many social and political messages. J. B. Priestley believed a great
deal in socialism and he used several of his plays to try and influence people to be Socialist as well.
It was written in a time when Britain was ruled by a Labour government and socialist policies
were seen as the way forward. It was a popular way of thinking at that time so Priestley s aim for
the play was probably to teach the unconvinced.

The Inspector in J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls is one of the most thought provoking and
mysterious characters that modern day literature has yet produced. It is this mysterious element that
contributes greatly to making him a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family use their house as a status symbol and have decorated it in a way so as to reflect their
wealth. We learn this from the few imposing but tasteless pictures which will probably have been
chosen because they were expensive, not because they were liked. These pictures also tell us that
the Birlings are proud of their wealth and think themselves to be very important but lack the good
taste which is present in those who are socially superior to them. The house is described as being
substantial and comfortable and old fashioned, but not cosy and homelike. This setting suggests
that the family are uncomfortable with each other and therefore suggests problems. They speak
to each other in a fairly relaxed manner, despite the attempts from Mrs. Birling to enforce a more
formal atmosphere by correcting her family whenever they make minor errors in table manners.
The champagne shows that family are joined to celebrate. Gerald is a guest at the house and so
the family are all well behaved and pleasant to one another but there are several hints that this is
for show and there are problems which are being ignored. Mrs. Birling treats Eric and Sheila as if
they are two small children even though Sheila is engaged to Gerald and so is a young woman.
This is shown when Sheila refers to Eric as squiffy and Mrs. Birling scolds her by saying What and

Reflection On High Stakes Testing
2 Reflection: High Stakes Testing
1)Share your experiences with the administration of high stakes testing of your students, students in
a classroom you observed, or your own children. What is the attitude of the students? Do you think
this or other situational factors could have influenced scores? What was the role of teachers or
administrators in these factors?

Every fall and spring of the year, our school has all students participate in NWEA Maps testing.
These tests are used to create our school wide goal, and for many of us, or individual goals for the
year. Math and English are the two areas of focus, to see where we stand in regards to the grade
level norms that each school is supposed to perform at. In the past, our school as a whole has
scored significantly below the norm. My second year, we had a 4+ point deficit, and expected
growth is limited to 1.3 a year on average. Thus, there is a huge emphasis on improving our scores
each year.
We have about a week and a half that we spend on testing, and each subject goes on a different day.
Throughout the course of the week our students will go with each of their teachers and take test for
a different subject each and every day. Studetns who don t finish in the allotted time for class, either
go back with the teacher, or are asked to finish their testing during a study hall, or during another
class period. When the testing begins, we all assume our students have taken it in previous grades

The Relationship Between Eloi and the Morlocks in The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

The Time Machine was inventively written as a social critique of the Victorian Era in 1895 by
Herbert George Wells, the father of modern science fiction. Wells used the novel to get the
messages across on social and political problems at the time when London was on top of the world.
The novel criticized mainly on communism, imperialism, capitalism, as well as Social Darwinism.
The Time Machine was an adventurous science fiction novel about a Time Traveler, the inventor of a
time machine who traveled to the year 802,701 A.D. In the course of his journey, he saw the
degeneration and the separation of mankind through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sight of the Elois reminded the Time Traveler of communism, which was one of the themes
in the novel, since they were all alike. Not only did they have delicate features of human but they
were also portrayed as being childlike. Then in a flash, I perceived that all had the same form of
costume, the same soft hairless visage, and the same girlish rotundity of limb, (Wells, 31).
Regardless of their physical similarities, the Time Traveler could not distinguish the age and the
gender of the Elois since they all looked the same. He believed that this was a result of the world
without troubles or fear, in which he criticized.

The theme of degeneration was apparent in this novel especially with the Elois. Not only were
they weak and childlike, but they also did not work or study. All they did was to play, sleep, eat,
bath, and laugh all day long. The Elois were stupid and lazy. They also could not concentrate for a
long period of time and they did not have much interest as seen when the Time Traveler was trying
to tell them where he was from or to teach them his language. You see I had always anticipated that
the people of the year Eight Hundred and Two Thousand odd would be incredibly in front of us in
knowledge, art, everything. Then one of them suddenly asked me a question that showed him to be

Biblical Worldview Of Humanity
In this paper I will be comparing the biblical worldview with a non biblical worldview in regards to
humanity. A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The biblical
worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain different
theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you with a
Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to other
interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theoryI want to speak about is the Animal Theory.
The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom and
derived from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and will go
through the same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one degree
difference between animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals because the
word of Godsays Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis 1:26, New
American Standard Bible) If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on His image.
Many argue that the image of God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him physically, but
that we carry many of His qualities like having dominion over animals. But, if we look into this
verse God mentions that He has allowed men to have dominion over animals, an Ape is an animal.

Comparing O-Lan And The Virtuous Woman
Throughout the complicated web of humanity, we have had many people that are recognized
today as great. From Christopher Columbus to Madonna, fame and recognition have graced many
great members of our society. But many more members of our society, that deserve respect, don t
receive it. This was often the case in the past for women, as they were not treated equally to men.
Yet the women of these times had a lot of value, especially compared to the praise they were given.
Two examples of women of this quality are O lan from The Good Earth, and the Virtuous woman
from Proverbs 31:10 31. Both O lan and The Virtuous Woman have many similarities and a few
differences. Both of them provide a lot of value in the relationships that they are a part of, both
romantically and platonically. These woman are both models that not only women, but all people
should aspire to be like.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, neither of them need to be spoiled. O lan spends much of her life in poverty, from
her early days as a slave to the days of her and Wang Lung begging in the streets. This parallels
The Virtuous Woman, when she is described in Proverbs 31:11 12 The heart of her husband doth
safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the
days of her life. This verse shows that The Virtuous Woman is like O lan in respect to her humility
and acceptance of life. Another way that these characters are similar is there tendency to give to
their families. O lan and the virtuous woman always make sure that their family are taken care of.
These good qualities are shared between the two characters, highlighting both of their
The Video That I Have Chosen From Www
The video that I have chosen from www.ted.com is called, Why You Should Talk to Strangers, by
Kio Stark. I chose this video because the title really had me wondering what her answer would be
and what justification she had behind it. The big picture behind her speech was to acknowledge
people when you see them. We walk around the University of Louisville s campus all the time,
seeing people we don t know and never speak to them. This video really influenced me to want to
talk to the people I pass by every day and say a single, Hi, to them. Within her presentation Stark
views, ...the overlooked benefits of pushing past our default discomfort when it comes to
strangers and embracing those fleeting but profoundly beautiful moments of genuine connection.
I see this speech as being persuasive because Stark is trying to inspire everyone to be friendly and
talk to one another. In her speech Stark talks about how she feels about talking to strangers. She
brought up a story about her and her daughter walking around town and Stark saying, Hi, when
walking past someone. Her daughter asked her why she says hi and asked if she knew them. This
really caught Stark s attention. It s good to be friendly, but it s good to know not when to be. Stark
using several different stories about her past with strangers and why this taught her to push herself to
talk to them, shows she is trying to persuade others to do the same. After rewatching this video again,
I paid more attention to her
Studying the Kenilworth Castle Essay
Studying the Kenilworth Castle

The castle today is a ruin, it is therefore of very little use to any historian studying castles.

After having visited Kenilworth castle and through my general readings and investigative studies I
do not agree with the hypothesis above and I will attempt to argue against this statement. Although
the castle is a ruin there is a great deal of structural evidence which historians find relevant in
determining the usefulness of castles and how they were used before they became a ruin. Therefore,
throughout my project I m going to explain why I don t agree with this hypothesis.

In this section, I will be analysing the different buildings within the castle ... Show more content on

From the outside of the building it is clear to see that the top sections of the walls are no longer
present. It is fair to say that the keep is no where near the great defensive feature of the medieval
period but it is remarkable in the way it has kept its shape and general structure over the years.

The strong tower and service wing is located away from the other

buildings in order to reduce the risk of fire spreading from the kitchens.

From my visit at Kenilworth I identified from the service wing three great fireplaces and a
massive tomb shape, which was more likely, used for baking bread. The service wing was also
used for residence and servants. When walking around the service wing I also noticed a large
basement, which was used for storing food. The strong tower is a three storey building and is one of
the earliest buildings to be built at Kenilworth, the first floor was a basement used for storage, the
second used for dining needs for the castles working residents and the top level being used for
living quarters. All these floors were being linked by a staircase in the wall. By going up the main
wooden staircase you now get a high level view of the great hall and going to the top level of the
tower using the wooden staircase you get a great view for miles around.

The great hall was used for dining and entertaining guests of the castle.

Why Led Zeppelin Is The Best Rock Band
The Rock Band that was Greatest Do you enjoy listening to the famous rock band Led Zeppelin?
This band has had countless songs that have made the top 100 list, including Stairway to Heaven,
Immigrant Song, and Kashmir. Their music has changed the history of rock and roll. Finally
they were also ranked grband in the world for 10 years in a row! This is almost unheard of in rock
and roll history. This proves that Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band of the past 50 years. One
key element of a band is the lyrics. They need to include real meaning to them. The singer can t be
singing about things that don t make any sense or do not care about. A singer sings best when
they are singing about something that they care about or something that has affected them. This
causes the singer to have more emotion when singing. Led Zeppelin is a prime example of a
band that puts passion into their lyrics. Their lyrics are simply amazing. They tell a story about
life. Throughout the band s career, their lyrics have covered everything from love to heartbreak to
friendships. They even mention Lord of the Rings in one of their songs. They put emotion into
their lyrics, which causes their music t be even better. Their lyrics are a massive piece of why Led

Example Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation in America
In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various
cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans believe
all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly identify
themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages background.
As a result, merging different cultures into one new culture will cause America lose its cultural
diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic group only
focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will aggravate the
separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one is more
appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays American
society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is inevitable and
reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to us through his
experiences.
First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He
indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are
reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. (Paragraph 7) To
clarify, when a single culture assimilates into a common culture, the

Canine Distemper Virus Research Paper
There are several different types of vaccines available for Canine Distemper virus, the most
common, commercially available, one is a live attenuated polyvalent vaccine. This vaccine is also
referred to as a modified live vaccine. The vaccine itself typically instills host protection from
multiple pathogenic viruses including Canine Distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and canine
parainfluenza. This vaccinecan be virulent in immunosuppressed animals as well among different
species such as ferrets and foxes. This type of vaccine uses the a less virulent version of the live

Hemagglutinin and fusion protein have also been implicated in stimulating such a response as they
are an important aspect of virus attachment and entry into specific cells. The vaccine is typically
given at the age of 8 weeks when the maternal antibodies will no longer interfere with vaccine
efficacy. Boosters are needed until the dog is 16 weeks old.The vaccine is typically most effective
for up to 3 years. Subsequent boosters may be needed. The frequency in which boosters are needed
depends on the animal s environment and susceptibility to viral infection. Although this vaccine has
been successful at decreasing disease frequency, there is still the possibility of viral evolution
through antigenic drift or shift and currently no effective treatment once infection occurs. There is
also a recombinant vaccine that has been undergoing research. This recombinant vaccine uses equine
herpesvirus 1 as a vector to carry canine distemper virus genes for hemagglutinin and nucleoproteins.
The vaccine increases the amount of antibody produced by the host and promotes the production of

House of the Spirits

In Allende s The House of the Spirits, Esteban Trueba is the principal male character. During the
course of the novel, Trueba increases his power in the world as he progresses in status from a
conservative landowner to a powerful senator. He is tyrannical, treating his family members and the
tenants on his family hacienda, Tres Marías, like subjects rather than intimate community. The basis
for most of Trueba s actions is the desire for power, control, and wealth, and he pursues these things
at any cost, disregarding his emotional decline and the effects of his actions upon the people in his
life.

his evil character and he charged her with his horse, whip in the air, beating her mercilessly, lash
