Banning The Freedom Of The Press
Although some may consider these books controversial or inappropriate, many English classes
have required us to read these books. Like the teachers that assigned us these books, I believe that
even controversial books can ultimately boost, not deter, our educational wealth. I oppose book
banning for three main reasons. First, I believe that education should be open to everyone.
Everyone should have an opportunity to read any literature of their choosing and form his or her
own opinions based on the reading. Micah Issitt lists three basic rights covered under the freedom of
the press: the right to publish, the right to confidentiality of sources, and the right of citizens to
access the products of the press. My second reason specifically addresses the last right stating that
citizens should have access to the press. The governmentshould not restrict books from being
published or interfere into personal affairs as this is an infringement of the First Amendment. Finally,
I believe that parents should monitor what their own children read, but not have the authority to ban
other children from reading these novels. For these reasons, I conclude that the government should
play no role in the issue what citizens do and do not read, and that book restriction should remain a
solely private matter. hile I agree that parents should play an active role in educating their children
and as their primary guardians, have the legal right to monitor what their children read, I disagree that
Islamic Influence On The Modern World
The muslims from the Islamic empire had created everything from the elegant architecture such as
mosques to a completely new level in the field of medicines. This time period takes place in the 7th
and 8th centuries and lies between its two primary cities, Baghdad and Cordoba. During the Golden
Age, the ideas of the Arabs, Egyptians, and Europeans came together. The Islamic contributions
affected the modern world by creating unique geometric and floral designs, making new discoveries
in geography and taught the study of arithmetics.

The natives of the Islamic empire had produced many new and dazzling forms of arts and literature

Geometric and floral design was significant because it helped to make everyday items, such as
plates, and turn it into a work of art using these designs. Also, it helped to illuminate the Qur an and
helped to decorate the mosques. Geography was important because the muslims created more
accurate maps, that helped the travelers to get information of a region s location, physical features,
and natural resources. Lastly mathematics helped the world because the Muslims help spread a very
important number, 0. It was important also because of the muslim scholar who had invented the
arabic numbers, which are used today. Without this useful innovations, it would be difficult to make

Impact of British Colonization on Kenya
HistoryRussell McGillivray

Kenya The British colonization of Kenya destroyed the culture and economy of the native people,
but it established a democratic government and left Kenya a more modernized country.[1] During
the 1880 s through 1914, the start of WWI, was an age of imperialism. One place that felt victim to
this imperialism was Africa. At this time Africa was a wholly unmodernized continent. The reason
the Europeans went after Africa was the introduction of the idea of social Darwinism and the white
man s burden . Social Darwinism is the belief that only the strongest and the most cunning can make
it to the top of the social ladder, and it was the White Man s Burden to step in for these undeveloped

Other than those though, there were some major contributions made that still effect the country
today. One such contribution was the Lyttleton Multiracial Constitution,[19] which was imposed
after the Mau Mau crisis, as a way to appease the kikuyu rebels. This constitution was the first step
on the way to establishing a better relationship between the natives and the settlers.[20] This
constitution, created by the British, established a council, made up of legislators elected by all the
people of Kenya, which would make decisions on the future of the country. This was established
because the numerous cultural groups of Kenya had trouble agreeing on decisions for the country,
as each tribe wanted changes to better their own tribe. The British established this to help the
native Kenyan people, instead of taking advantage of them. This went a long way toward bettering
the relationship between the two peoples. 6 years later the Macleod Constitution was established.
This created an African majority in the council that gave the Kenyan s more power over the
Settlers. It also gave each tribe a share of the power in the council, much like the state
representatives we have in our congress; each tribe had a different share of the power based on size.
The tribes with more people had more representatives in the council, and therefore more power. With
these two constitutions, the Kenyan people were well on their way to becoming an

According to Government Affairs: Current Issues (2014), legislation was passed in 2006 which
allowed for qualified mental health counselors to work as mental health clinicians in order to take

of qualified counselors came from the National Board for Certified Counselors that advocated for
years and directly influenced the 2006 legislation ( Mental Health Matters in advocacy, 2004). This
allows counselors that are trained to deal with issues of mental health such as PTSD to get jobs and
help veterans with their mental health. The passing of this legislation allowed counselors that were
qualified and licensed to gain employment with the VA and thus having access to the
Immanuel Kant s Categorical Imperatives
Immanuel Kant was an eighteenth century moral philosopher who disliked the values of the popular
ideals of utilitarianism. Thus, he created his own philosophy known as Kantian ethics. According to
Kant, the most important factor in determining if an action is ethical is an individual s motive. In
his teachings, Kant describes that the true rightness of an action depends on whether or not an
individual fulfills his or her duty to be moral not, the consequences of the actions taken. Kant seems
to deem that a moral action is not based on human emotions nor is it based on self interest but
rather, a moral action is taken due to a sense of duty.
The greatest issue with this method of thought involves motives. Due to the fact that Kantian ethics

Kant explains this law with the shopkeeper example. The shopkeeper who acts out of compassion
is not cheating his customers but is not acting morally since the action is taken out of self interest.
The shopkeeper who acts out of duty is acting morally. The action taken is only right and has moral
worth if it is taken due to moral duty regardless of the whether or not the outcome is positive or
negative.
There are several arguments against Kantian ethics. One of the issues with Kant s ideas is that it
does little to explain how to act when in a situation where moral duties will conflict. What should
an individual do when there are conflicts of duty? For example, if an individual is forced to
choose between telling the truth but, kill his or her family or to lie and save his or her family
what should the person do? Kantian ethics states that telling a lie is always wrong. It also
considered bad for a person to not follow the moral duty towards one s

Grendel Vs Beowulf
I won t shift afoot when I meet the cave guard. This quote shows the courage and bravery of a
warrior during this time. In the Anglo Saxon Beowulf and John Gardner s Grendel, the difference in
the point of views give a change to the author s style and the narration of the two writings. The
difference in literary purpose behind the two writings affects the motivation and the language.
Beowulf is about a warrior who fights a huge monster to show his loyalty to a king that was not
even his. It was written in the Anglo Saxon time period and this greatly affects the way the story is
written. Grendel is written from the monster s point of view and this was written many years later.

The Importance Of Vaccines
Vaccines have become an important health intervention throughout the years. A vaccine is a product
that produces immunity from a disease and can be given by the nose or the mouth.
The word vaccines comes from a disease that occurred ages ago named cowpox that affected cows.
The word vaccines derives from the latin word vacca meaning cow. Vaccines cause immunization, a
process by which a person becomes protected from a certain disease through the presence of
antibodies in the human body. Antibodies are proteins produced by the human body to destroy or
neutralize toxins. There are two types of immunity, active and passive. Active immunity is when an

Thanks to the use of vaccinations, Smallpox was eradicated, meaning it now does not exist. In
1796 a physician named Edward Jenner decided to prove a theory when there was a disease
called smallpox that began to kill millions of people. Smallpox was a less serious disease related
to cowpox that milkmaids caught through the exposure of infected cows. Milkmaids who
contracted cowpox were immune to smallpox. What Jenner did was take some infected cowpox
and exposed it to a cut in a boys arm. Once the boy recovered, Jenner exposed him to smallpox
through injection and the first vaccine was born. Edward Jenner s work was the first to control an
infectious disease by the use of vaccination. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention On May 8, 1980, the 33rd World Health Assembly officially declared the world free of
this disease. Eradication of smallpox is considered the biggest achievement in international public
health . Thanks to those who vaccinated against smallpox they allowed the spread of the disease to
eliminate and that disease is no longer around today to exposure anyone. If we all continue to
vaccinate completely, in the future some diseases of today will no longer be around to harm future
generations.
Major Medical Organizations state that vaccines are safe and for that reason vaccines should be

John Dover
Blown out of proportion

It was noon when John Dover showed up to court, and he would fain to leave. It could ve been
because of his less than amorous relationship with the judge, a result of his past impious behavior,
or it could be how perfidious his client was, an abject man he felt no ruth for, but it was most
probably due to the fact that the woman he was betrothed to was waiting for him to finish this trial
so they could go on vacation. And god, did he need one.
The bailiff s voice snapped him out of his dreams of sandy beaches and luaus. All rise. John stood
with his client, a taller man with sandy hair by the name of Billy Monroe, as the judge entered the
room. His past profanation concerning the judge had led to John being quite ... Show more content on

stomp around the store. Now, John began, Isn t it a bit peculiar that as Mr.Monroe was noisily
stomping around the store, and making oh such a ruckus, that Mr.DeBlasio continued to look
down at the paper? John began the tape again, this time pausing it as Billy hit Mr.DeBlasio. And
now, even as someone is running at him, Mr.DeBlasio does not look up. What could this mean?
Now, we can all see that Mr.DeBlasio is rather old. Maybe, he just fell asleep? It was late, would
have been understandable for anybody. But, John continued, the smile beginning to widen to a
grin, Wasn t Mr.DeBlasio very clearly able to recount what occurred at the time of the scene? So
he obviously is not asleep in this video, and not only that, if it is him in the video, how would he
know that it was actually Mr.Monroe considering he never looks up once? So now, we come to the
truth. At this point John started the video for a second before

First explored in 1938, the Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump site in south west Alberta, Canada is
an archaeological goldmine. Named after a child who was watching the event unfold that was hit
with a falling buffalo, HSIBJ site tells a gruesome story. As one of the oldest and most preserved
kill sites in the world, HSIBJ is scientifically and anthropologically significant. For six thousand
years, this site was used by PlainsPeople as a hunting ground, herding multiple buffalo off of a cliff
to their deaths, as a means of survival. The magnitude of the HSIBJ site helps shed light on the
hunting patterns of other groups that are still in the area today. SouthWest Albertais part of a
gorgeous landscape of grassy plains and rocky cliffside. The east is covered in high grass and
prairies, while the west is a mixture of cacti, sage and short grasses. The plains people experience
extreme weather cold, frigid winters and scorching summers. Across the landscape are large
herds of buffalo, bears, deer, antelope and coyotes. The plains people were separated by
patriarchal bands groups of 50 to 100 individuals, connected by marriage or kinship. The men
hunted, led religious ceremonies and were the medical experts. Each band was lead by a single
man, the headman who exemplified the behavior the plains people wished to have. Each band had
around 40 tipis made of animal hide, that were portable and easily constructed. The diet of the plains

Regulating Dietary Supplements Essay
According to the 2002 Harris poll, seven out of ten adults in the United States take vitamins,
minerals, herbs, or other supplements (Schardt 2). Due to media advertising, dietary supplements are
becoming more popular. Companies compete to have the best supplements. It is said that forty
percent of American adults take vitaminsupplements and over the counter products, which total in
several billion dollars (Farley 2). Although many of the supplements claim to be healthy and help
lose weight, the dangers are endless. Dietary supplementscan be illegally spiked and are not safe.

James VI I s Desire to Create a Perfect Union Between Scotland and England

After succeeding the English thrown in 1603, James VI I of Scotland and England aimed to create
the perfect union . In 1604 he proclaimed himself king of Britain and attempted full unification of
the nations. This was to involve uniting the Scottish and English parliaments, the church and the
legal systems. It also included free trade, repeal of hostile laws and the renewal of borders. James s
plan to create a perfect union was not to be successful for numerous reasons. This essay will discuss

Scotland was, after all, a poor nation and full unification would provide the benefits of, strength,
peace and security for Britain and he himself would be known for his greatness on a European
level.[3] James somewhat achieved this as, French and Venetian ambassadors were impressed…by
the extent of the king s authority .[4]

James was determined to succeed with the full unification of Scotland and England. In April 1604,
the Commons were asked to consider his new title as that of king of Britain. Their objection to do
so deeply offended James as he considered it his right. Decisions were delayed because the union
was imperfect and many were unclear as to exactly what it would involve. Commons were weary
of James because he intervened in such a way they had not been used to. As he made use of his full
powers, some were classifying it as, unwarranted interference in their affairs .[5] With the continual
postponing of the acknowledgement of James s position, he exercised his right of royal prerogative
and proclaimed himself king of Great Britain in October 1604.

His intentions of full unification were made known in his persuasive opening speech to Parliament
when he said, What God hath conjoined let no man separate. I am the husband and all the whole
isle is my lawful wife. I am the head and it is the body. I am the shepherd and it is the flock. I hope,
