Color Psychology
Color is defined as the quality of an object or substance with respect to light reflected by the object,
usually determined visually by measurement of hue, saturation, and brightness of the reflected light;
saturation or chroma; hue (Webster s Dictionary). Color is an extremely powerful psychological
tool used across the globe. Our world would be bland and boring without the use of colorin our
everyday lives. Using color psychology can encourage sales, calm a crowd, and even help a person
send a positive (or negative) message. Many companies use color psychology in their marketing
schemes. June Campbell, writer for Nightcates Multimedia Productions, states, Colors not only

Finally, even schools are getting in on a bit of color psychology. Some schools are known to paint
the locker room of the opposing team in pink. Yes, pink. Pink drains energy out of a person and
causes fatigue a very strategic move. Prisons are also known to use pink in their jail cells because
it drains all the negative energy from the inmates. Culture has a large influence on the meanings
of color as well. First, China looks at colors differently than we do here in America. Let us take a
look at the color red once again. In China red is the color worn by brides. If a Chinese woman
were to wear white for her wedding, her parents would not allow her to marry. Secondly, in India
red is also a symbol of purity and good luck, which is why it is the traditional wedding gown color.
Also, yellow is said to be a sacred and imperial color for their culture. Now, in America, we have
different meanings for certain colors than other countries, and our flag colors and symbols best
represent us as a whole. The white represents purity and innocence, red signifies valor and
hardiness, and blue stands for justice, perseverance, and vigilance. The stars show the heavens and
all the good that people strive for, while the strips emulate the sun s rays. Breaking down each
country s flag by symbol and color only shows, in more detail, the background

When de Lord will call us home. For almost eight decades, enslaved African Americans living in the
Antebellum South, achieved their freedom in various ways one being religion before the demise of
the institution of slavery. It was freedom, rather than slavery, [that] proved the greatest force for
conversion among African Americans in the South (94). Starting with the Great Awakening and
continuing long after the abolition of slavery, after decades of debate, scholars conceptualized the
importance of religion for enslaved African Americans as a means of escaping the brutalities of daily
life. Overall, Christianity helped enslaved African American resist the degradation ... Show more

...But I heard of the missionary instructing a large number of colored boys and girls at the big

1840s, concern arose among Southern churchmen after acknowledging that multitudes of districts in
the Southwest had churches that could not contain even one tenth of the Negro populations; besides
others in which there are no churches at all . The fact that nearly all Southwestern slave states lacked
Christian institutions before plantation missions meant that religion played little to no role in the
lives of the majority of slaves residing within these boundaries. Even after missionaries brought the
gospel to both rural and urban slaves at home, the prevalence of plantations missions varied from
state to state. This deviation shaped the role of religion in the lives of black slaves depending on
which state they lived and worked in. Although missionaries urged all slaveholders to actively
participate in catechizing their slaves, since the plantation mission movement geographically
centered in lowland South Carolina and Georgia masters and

Running head: Theories of Criminal Behavior

Theories of Criminal Behavior

Theories of Criminal Behavior The beginning of civilization dawned a new era in which man came
together to live amongst one another in relative peace and prosperity. The advent of civilization
however also brought about people who choose to live a life outside of societal norms and law,
norms and thus was the creation of the criminal. All civilizations tried to suppress and discourage
crime by using a multitude of tactics and punishments. Crime, however continued to grow despite
these harsh tactics and strict laws. Scientists have tried to understand the fundamental drive of the
criminal from early antiquity to the modern era. Several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Both Sheldon s and Lombroso s theories have been dismissed due to faulty evidence and
inconsistencies, but the idea of biological predisposition to crime still lingers in the criminologist.
Another biological theory of crime is more associated with the genetics of the mind, and whether
if a person with certain mental or genetic abnormalities will be more prone to a life of crime. A
part of this theory is the extra chromosome theory. It has been suggested that a rare XYY aberration
in males may lead the possessor to uncontrolled violence. A large number of males who have
possessed this genetic abnormality have had a high predisposition to crime and have constituted
about 3.5 percent of males in the prison population (Reckless, p. 42). The other parts of genetic
theories of crime are associated with symptomatic behavior. In some studies, it is suggested that
persons suffering from a mental condition are more likely to commit violent crimes than
James Thurber-Humor in Fiction
James Thurber was one of the most influential and unforgettable writers of his kind. He made
modern day problems seem preventable in the minds of people, and he tried to make them realize
that the problems had to have a source. Thurber wrote of people struggling with day to day life that
was once trouble free and drew his ideas of humanity losing the direction it once had in the past. He
attributed this change to wandering minds and ignorant actions on man s behalf. James Thurber
used his artistic and creative abilities to make a point of humanshortcomings through ingenious
writings and comical sketches. James Oliver Thurber, a satirical, Ohio born writer, was born in
Columbus on December 8, 1894. Thurber wrote of himself that he was... Show more content on

One of Thurber s choice ways of communicating with the masses was through writing magazine
articles, short stories, essays, and children s books. His uncanny take on his writing usually
brought laughter and enjoyment to its readers with descriptions of wild and ridiculous events
being his number one source of absurdity. Among them were Many Moons, a story of a daughter
of royalty who refused to make herself better after overeating until she was given the moon, and
The Wonderful O, the tale of a pirate who travels to the island of Ooroo to find jewels. When the
pirate leaves empty handed, he banishes all words containing the letter o. The moral to the fairy tale
was words containing that vowel were vital in the world and among the necessary words was
freedom (Morsberger Suppl. 1:612). When it came to more important matters, Thurber had the views
of many of today s modern thinkers, and it was reflected in his work. He saw the human as more
harmful than helpful to the world as a whole. In his Interview with a Lemming, the creature being
interrogated by a scientist calls humans murderous, maladjusted, maleficent, malicious, and muffle
headed. The scientist proceeds to tell him that he agrees with the observation, but he can not seem to
understand why lemmings hurry to the sea to drown themselves. The lemming curtly replies, How
curious. The one thing I don t understand is why you humans don t (Morsberger Suppl. 1:603). His

Garner State Park Research Paper
I first went to Garner State Park when I was thirteen years of age, I had never heard of that place
before, but my neighbors from across the street had invited me for the weekend. Ever since I
visited, it became one of my favorite places to attend to; I have yet to find someone who doesn t
find that park beautiful. I did a vast number of things which were all genuinely enjoyable; everything
was done at the perfect time from the early morning till sunset.
Generally, I arrive there at four in the morning, frogs croaking and fireflies dim in the distance, the
sun is still hours from rising but I am ready to take on the day. Sure enough the sun is out and we get
ready to go in; as I unload I can t help but look around and admire all the beauty that surrounds me.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Sleeping Sickness
Sleeping sickness, Human African trypanosomiasis, caused massive public deaths in rural areas
and was a public health issue for colonial officials in East Africa in the early 1900s. There were
two forms of the disease, Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. T.
gambiense is more prevalent and causes a chronic infection while T. rhodesiense is less prevalent
but causes acute infection in individuals infected with sleeping sickness . Sleeping sickness is
considered a protozoan parasitic disease that is spread by infected tsetse flies, Glossina palpalis,
which are common in rural areas of Africa . The disease came in different waves throughout the 19th
and 20th century and left many dead, particularly in the lakeshore areas. The written documents from
the early 20th century on the sleeping sickness epidemics show that the advancing knowledge
derived from medical research and experimentations led to the creation of strict public health
policies, such as depopulation and restriction of travel, in the modern imperial world. During the
early 20th century, there was some general knowledge about tropical medicine and how it affected
public health. When epidemics broke out in colonial territories, the colonial government often
attempted to control the disease using quarantines in order to prevent the spread of it to other areas,
particularly, the areas inhabited by Europeans. By the 1900s, people had only a basic understanding
of sleeping sickness. They knew
Ketchup E Mayonnaise
For me to learn a language properly I have to have an understanding of the mechanics of the
language. Here is an example of what I mean. If I say, On what aisle will I find the condiments
like ketchup and mayonnaise, in Spanish, I may say, Donde encontro condiments egual a
ketchup e mayonnaise? The person I am talking to may understand me enough to help me, but if I
had said, Por lo pasillo puedo encontrar condimentos como salsa de tomate y mayonesa? It would
sound like I know what I m saying, and it would be easier to understand me. This is why for me to
learn English I have to know the mechanics, or rules of grammar so I can speak properly. I will start
with defining a sentence. A sentence expresses a complete thought. For example... Show more

I can t find the ketchup and mayonnaise. Where can I find them? The is an article. The is used
when a noun or pronoun is specific, special, or more than one, and it is placed before the noun or
pronoun. In this sentence the article the is placed before the noun, condiments. So you know the
person is looking specifically for condiments, and there is an expressed interest in more than one
condiment. Condiments is a noun. It means things which are used to flavor food, like ketchup and
mayonnaise. The last word we have to look at is the word, like. Like in this sentence is used as a
preposition. It means, similar, or almost the same. Like in this sentence tells you the person may not
be looking for ketchup or mayonnaise, but for condiments in general, and used ketchup and
mayonnaise as an example to explain what is meant by the word condiments. I didn t explain
pronouns, in this little essay. I and them are pronouns. So I will write briefly about them here.
Them is the pronoun which I use in place of the noun, words and the pronoun. I is the pronoun
used in this essay in place of my name. Oh, and always put a capital letter to start the first word in a
sentence, like this sentence started with a capital O , then end the sentence with a punctuation mark
like a period (.) or a question mark (?) or an exclamation mark
Descriptive Essay On The Day Of The Dog
Hold on mom, I m in the bathroom, I yell as I hurry to finish. Dot, I need you right now! my mom
exclaims, obviously needing something. As I finish and wash my hands, I run out of the
bathroom, down the stairs, out of the back door, and into the backyard. I spot her down at the
bottom of the hill, by the fence. I don t see my American Bulldog, Larry, in the backyard. Still
wearing my shin guards and jersey from my field hockey game I just came home from, I run down
the hill to see what she was yelling about. I notice that Larry is on the other side of the fence, in the
woods, barking at a brown creature. Neither my mom nor I knew what it was, but Larry seemed
pretty intrigued by it.
My mom and I were holding treats out to him to try to get him to come back under the medium
sized hole in the fence, but none of our efforts worked. Larry being a large dog, we didn t
understand how he got through a hole that wasn t that big. As we discussed what we thought it
was, the animal, which we discovered was a deer, got up and started to run deeper into the woods,
followed by Larry. In that moment, I decided to hop my wooden fence and run after the deer and
my dog. Holding a bag of treats in my hand and running through the woods dodging trees and
spiky plants, I repeatedly called his name, trying to get him to come back to me. After around thirty
seconds of me running after Larry and the deer, the deer stopped. I kept trying to get my dog s
attention by calling his name and

Comparison Of Chinatown And The Big Sleep
Comparing ChinaTown and the Big Sleep

ChinaTown, directed by Roman Polanski, is a non traditional hard nosed detective film made in the
70 s. The typical elements of character type are there; J.J. Gittes (a private detective in LA) played
by Jack Nicholson is the central character, sharing the spotlight is Fay Dunaway playing the femme
fatale Evelyn Mulwray. This film breaks all types of norms when compared to the hard nosed
detective films it is modeled after. The film is filled with allusions to the Big Sleep, especially
taken from scenes of Marlowe and Vivian. Chinatown has formal elements indicative that it is going
to be in the style of traditional Film Noir hardboiled detective, until you examine the characters

While he tells the off color joke is the real Evelyn Mulwray , standing behind him waiting with her
lawyer.

This would have never happened to Marlowe. Gattis looked like a fool.

Gettis couldn t get a one liner right if his nose depended on it. Throughout the film Gettis is
screwing up jokes or lines that were meant to be sharp and humorous. In opposition to Gettis,
Marlowe is socially smooth and rather witty. You could almost say Gettis is clumsy and crass. The
impression we are left with about Gettis is normalizing. Gettis loses the stature that comes with a
protagonist filled with bravado. He comes off kind of plain, almost corny, a regular guy.

As a detective Gettis has done very well by himself. He has Venetian blinds in his office, wears a
well tailored white suit and seems to be wealthy from his trade. In contrast, Marlowe from the Big
Sleep is barely getting by with P.I. work. It is implied that he isn t materialistic and it wouldn t out
of character for him to do work

Pro bono. Gettis is a P.I. known mostly for divorce work (catching adultery) and spying on the
unsuspecting. As a protagonist he doesn t come off very ethical. Polanski didn t make a character
the audience would love right off the bat. Supplying Curly with pictures of his wife s adultery in the
opening scene doesn t paint Gettis into a picture of the model for ethics.

Eveylyn Mulwray is no Vivian in the Big Sleep. Although
