1920-1930 Essay
1920 1930

The 1920 s are also known as the Roaring 20 s . It was the first modern decade experienced by this
country, as America flourished after WW I. The average number of hours worked per week
dropped from 60 hours to 48 hours (Rayburn). For the first time, people felt that it was just as
important to play as it was to work; family outings and weekend trips had become things that
workers expected (Rayburn). Women became more open by appearing in public smoking and
drinking. Trojan condoms first appeared and sex became an open issue for discussion.

During these years, Prohibition caused the rich and the common folk to come together in the name
of alcohol. The business of America had become business (Rayburn). Calvin Coolidge was ... Show

The German people felt discouraged about their defeat in the war and Adolph Hitler first arrived on
the scene. Great Britain also felt the effects of World War I. It suffered through a time of high
unemployment rates as well as the general strike that took place in 1926. As a result of the strike,
many businesses and services could no longer function (Rayburn News 1).

After World War I ended in 1919, many artists began to turn to Abstract Expressionism, while
others turned to the Surrealist aspect of art. Salvador Dali became the high priest of Surrealism
and created the disturbing world where the intangible became tangible (Spielvogel). Giorgio de
Chirico, an Italian painter was another artist who used Surrealism in his work. Man Ray, an
American Surrealist, was experimenting with a different kind of Surrealism. Instead of a
paintbrush she used an airbrush. Functionalism was used in architecture, meaning that these
buildings were made with a specific purpose in mind. Dadaism also became prevalent. These
artists tried to create expression by creating an anti art (Spielvogel). Not only was art changing,
but sports and music were experiencing a transition as well. Following World War I, sports became
one of the most popular activities for fun. Baseball stadiums were enjoying record ticket sales and
attendance while ticket prices doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. The rise of tennis and golf also
occurred during
Bro Country Pros And Cons
Comparing traditional country from the likes of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Waylon
Jennings to the music available in the country mainstream, there is an obvious digression. The
new term for todays emerging country is bro country, coined by Jody Rosen of New York
Magazine. Along with this bro country, most of what s readily available can more easily be
defined as pop rather than country, and people have noticed. Looking deeper into the genre, there
is a divide between those who have gone bro and pop , and those who have stayed more along the
lines of traditional country. While there are plenty of debates being waged on social media by both
fans and artists, the evolving country genre has never had a stronger presence in mainstream... Show

Most notably among these artists is Taylor Swift. Over the 8 years of her professional career,
Swift has seen amazing success both in country and pop. Her upcoming release 1989 is her first
official transition to the pop genre, so much so that she won t be pushing the new album to country
radio at all (Whitaker 1). Over the course of Swift s last album or two, there has been a definite
adjustment and maturing of her sound, gearing herself more toward pop. In an interview with USA
Today about Taylor s transition, the associate editor at Billboard, Jason Lipshutz, described her last
album, Red , as being based in country music, but [having] a lot of bubblegum pop in it (Ryan,
Mansfield 2). Lipshutz continued expressing the new 1989 album is a complete transition that if you
ve been paying attention, you could see coming (Ryan, Mansfield 2). With Swift paving the way,
there is now a greater opportunity for country artists to expand their style to incorporate their country
roots with the sounds of
The Beetles In The 1960 s
Great music can sometimes can turn just an ordinary day into something magical, spiritual even. The
effects music has on the human mind, can spread further; right through our genetic code and
throughout our bodies. With all the good that can come with music, negative effects are not too far
behind. Musichas been the center focal point for parents and politicians alike to use it as a
scapegoat to help push their political and parent agenda. To help mold children and adolescents into
something they were never meant to be. From the controversy surrounding The Beetles in the 1960
s, to the force suicide allegations of heavy metal band Judas Priest in the last 80 s and even as
recent as the Columbine Massacre in Littleton, Co in 1999 that was blamed... Show more content on

If anyone tries to link gangster rap with gun violence will inevitably look within the United
States. A country where drive by shooting, street killings, violent rap lyrics and the death of 3 of
the most profound artists to grace the hip hop scene have graced the cover of newspapers and
made headlines for the better part of 20 years. I honestly believe that gangster rap was just a
reaction to the violent nature of society, and not the cause of it. Former SLOTUS (Second Lady
of the United States) led the field of politicians when she rose to rose to prominence for her work
with the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). Voicing her strong opinions and advocating
censorship, for the labeling of record covers of releases featuring profane language, especially in
the heavy metal and hip hop genres. The committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of
increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to have violent, drug
related or sexual themes via labeling albums with parental advisory stickers. Many groups answered
back with criticism and parodies from bands like NOFX, Danzig, Ice T and Megadeth. Lead guitarist
and co founded Dave Mustaine stated in an interview with Spin magazine that Hook in Mouth
declaims censorship and the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). Mustaine elaborated that the
lyrics were aimed at those who were f*cking around with our constitutional rights and trying to
Rousseau Snapshot In Time
What can be painted in self portraits is a snapshot in time, and therefore limited in nature to the story
that it can tell. Conversely, the written word is limitless in nature, and the length of the
autobiography is therefore limitless as well and thus can provide a much more thorough examination
of self and portrayal of self to others.
Sometimes a self portrait is a statement of how the artist wants to be seen and remembered.
Sometimes it s how the artist sees himself. Sometimes they provide a unique perspective that can
provide physicians or other medical professionals with psychological, psychiatric or neurologic
insights into the artists through their physical renderings. In each case, it is a snapshot in time. On
the other hand, the written word, as in an autobiography, is often a chronological accounting of
events that takes place over the course of several journals. As in the case of Rousseau s
Confessions , it was two distinct works, each part consisting of six books. The events described in
Rousseau s Confessions should not be taken as gospel, for the human memory is fallible much as
some would like to believe otherwise. There is no doubt however that Rousseau s feelings on the
matters he described were as true as he could make them. This showed that he made a valiant attempt
to stay true to his own philosophy of humans being fundamentally good by remaining as honest as he
feasibly could in his autobiography. In contrast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

author may give a detailed description of themselves and their lives, leaves the final picture up to

Concussions And Concussions In Sports
Death sentences, or even handicap for life, the reality of sports is they can lead to outcomes of all
kinds. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is the outcome of many hits to the head, as concussions.. It
affects the body by limiting the body movement to just the eyes. Chronic Traumatic
Encephalopathy become the result of an extra gene, but also could be caused by concussions, or
head trauma. The diagnosis of these diseases have been seen in young athletes, due to the constant
head trauma. Sports have made it a big thing to comprehend and to be aware of as well.
Concussions are the main cause of the diseases because of the repetitive hits the brainis taking to the
skull. Sports have a variety of wins, but the intensities of the game are not worth the win with the life
threatening plays.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS is a disease caused by concussions and head trauma. ALS is
a rare neurological disease that mainly involves nerve cells, which control voluntary muscle
movement, such as breathing, talking, or chewing. With this being a progressive disease that has no
cure it has made a tremendous impact for check ups after blows to the head. A hit to the head does
not always mean you have a concussion, but with symptoms and side effects the athlete should not
take a chance and get it checked out immediately. This is more of a physical incapacity disease.
ALS has become a common disease for athletes in the mid twenties, and life expectancy is very
slim once the diagnosis has taken place. The main reported life periods for ALS athletes has been
3 5 years, but with medication and treatments it has had higher life expectancies about 20% have
5 years, 10% have 10 years, and 5% have 20 years. The athletes lives have changed from the
beginning of the diagnoses till the end of the lives they do live with the disease. Being a scary thing
to think about athletes do tend to have the ability to walk away at retirement perfectly clear from
ALS, which is a win.

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE is a degenerative disease that is caused by sports just as
ALS, but commonly diagnosed in people with the extra gene called the Tauopathy protein also
known as the tau protein. Tau protein is an extra gene that could
Acorn Worm Essay
Acorn worms get their names Hemichordates from having some of the characteristics of a chordate.
Hemi meaning half and then adding chordate. They are both also part of the deuterostomes family
by having their first opening to be the anus. There are certain characteristics that make acorn worms
part of the deuterostomes family including a bilaterally symmetrical body, radial cleavage,
enterocoelous coelom, and invertebrate. Bilaterally symmetrical meaning that the acorn worm can
be open right down the midline and both sides of the worm would be exactly the same. The
enterocoelous meaning that the acorn worm has a true body cavity which forms of the embryonic
mesoderm as the evaginations of the gut and also that the anus is the first opening... Show more

The postanal tail is just something some acorn worms have which in turn results in poor
segmentation. The tubular nerve cords are located in the dorsal midline and the ventral midline.
The ventral cord is only in the trunk of the acorn worm and is attached to the dorsal cord through
the prebranchial nerve ring. The dorsal cord goes all the way to the collar and runs through the
coelom to the buccal tube as the collar cord. Finally, the stomochord is a hollow and flexible tube
which come about in the embryonic development out of the top of the embryonic gut to the
pharynx. As the acorn worm becomes an adult the stomochord moves to the proboscis to serve as a
communication to the oral cavity. Hemichordates aren t chordates because they lack some of the
chordate characteristics one being notochords. Notochords can be found in between the digestive
tube and the nerve cord of the chordate. It can be found during the embryonic stages and also
sometimes in their adult life. The notochord is there to provide skeletal support because of the
length of the body but, is later replaced with a vertebral column in some

How Does Croesus Define Happiness
In modern society, the line between pleasure and happiness is commonly blurred. While pleasures
are momentary feelings of joy, they do not entail true happiness. True happiness is present even at
the worst of times. It is there in moments of delight as well as in moments of pain and distress. On
the journey to a good life, discovering a true sense of happinessis essential. This concept is
portrayed in The History by Herodotus and Happiness by Richard Taylor. While these readings
define happiness differently, they both demonstrate the idea that a life well lived consists of long
term happiness as opposed to short term pleasures. In The History, Herodotus describes happiness as
something that is socially defined. Croesus believes that he is... Show more content on

In Happiness, Richard Taylor addresses the fact that many people spend their lives trying to acquire
wealth and possessions in hopes that these things will bring them happiness. Taylor says The pursuit
of possessions beyond a certain point, far from constituting or even contributing to happiness, is an
obstacle to it; for one has no chance of finding the right path to anything if he is resolutely
determined to follow the wrong one (Taylor, 113). Taylor is arguing that the accumulation of
possessions is not only unhelpful in the journey to happiness, but it is detrimental. According to
Taylor, happiness is something that must be found within yourself. External stimuli will not bring
true happiness. In order to reach this sense of happiness, you must exercise your creative
intelligence. Taylor states that creative intelligence is exhibited in Virtually any activity guided by
intelligence...for example, the exercise of skill in a profession, or in business, or even in such things
as gardening and farming (Taylor, 118 119). This definition of creative intelligence does not require
one to actually create anything, but rather to succeed at doing something. This expertise in
performing a certain task will bring the internal fulfillment that Taylor deems necessary to truly be
happy. Though Taylor defines happiness differently than Herodotus, happiness remains essential to
living a
