Iraq 2003 Research Paper
The invasion of Iraq 2003 had an impact on Iraq and its civilians on a profound level. There
remains considerable controversy in regards to Iraq s political and military transition. Human rights
protection should be built into the institutional framework for a future Iraq. Men, women and
children were impacted physically and psychologically as a result of the crimes committed by the
US. A rights focus point will strengthen the cooperation of Iraqi civilians in the transition process
and will reinforce the consideration of the occupying power and interim administration to the people
of Iraq. The US obtains primary responsibilities such as the protection and welfare of civilians in

The reports on the abuse and mistreatment of Iraqi detainees by US officials at Abu Ghraib prison
undermined the public reputation and image of the United States across the globe. Domestic and
international opponents of the initial decision to invade Iraq in 2003, triggered criticism of the
current US policies to a profound level. The aftermaths of the invasion had negative repercussions on
the relationship between the two governments. Although, US forces practised persuasion, diplomacy,
and financial aid to support various Iraqi factions. By 2008, these actions were consistent in
faltering the insurgency. As a result, the military and political situations stabilised. By this stage,
President Barack Obama eventually terminated the US military presence in Iraq. Obama pledged to
transfer responsibility for Iraq s future to the Iraqi people and to engage in regional diplomacy to
ease external pressures on the country (Hahn, 2012). In his pledge in August 2007, Obama stated
that he would close Guantanamo, reject the Military Commissions Act, and adhere to the Geneva
Conventions. Our Constitution and our Uniform Code of Military Justice provide a framework for

Jaws is based on book written by Peter Benchley which is loosely based around the shark attacks of
1916 along the US eastern coast. Peter Benchley co wrote the screenplay with Carl Gottlieb. Jaws is
tagged as an action and adventure, mystery and suspense, thriller and is intended for older
audiences (PG 13). Jaws main characters are: Broody (Police Chief) played by actor Roy Scheider,
Quint (Fisherman) played by actor Robert Shaw, Hooper (Scientist) played by Richard Dreyfuss.
Other Jaws top billed actors/actresses are: Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody), Murray Hamilton (Mayor
Vaughn) . Jaws won several Academy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After finding evidence of a shark attack Chief Brody intends to close the beaches, however
Mayor Vaughn and several other key islanders are flat against the beach closing, mainly for
economic reasons. Chief Brody initially backs down about the beach closings, however once the
shark attacks came again to the shores of Amity, the beaches were closed. It was an island
consensus to hire a shark killer (Quint) to solve the problem, regardless of the hefty fee he
charged. It turned out not to be so simple a problem especially for Quint. Once the size of the
shark was estimated it created another issue for Amity with the very limited equipment and
expertise they had available on the small, isolated island, they had to reach out for expert help
(Matt Hooper, Oceanographer). As Jaws continued to attack Amity s beaches it was finally seen
for its actual size, that is when Chief Brody made the statement of you re gonna need a bigger
boat , which was not written in the original screenplay and has become known as the most
memorable line in the movie. Jaws is suspense filled and the music score for the shark attack was
developed perfectly to create further suspense, while the music played one watched, glued to the
screen waiting to see what was going to happen next. I would not recommend this movie to young
children because of the blood, guts and gore
Vladimir Lenin And The Bolshevik Revolution
According to the History.com Staff, The October Revolution began on November 6 and 7, 1917 (or
October 24 and 25 on the Julian calendar). (Russian Revolution ). The October Revolution has also
been called the Bolshevik Revolution since the Bolshevik Party played a crucial role in the
revolution. The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Leninwas a big supporter of Karl Marx.
Another Marxist who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com Staff,
Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d état against the provisional government. ( Russian
Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than follow an
order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the Bolshevik.
Encyclopædia Britannica tells us that, Kerensky was a socialist revolutionary who served as head of
the Russian Provisional Government. ( Aleksandr Kerensky ).
According to History.com Staff, The provisional government had created a group of leaders from
Russia s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin would alternatively call for a Soviet state that would be
controlled directly by councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers. ( Russian Revolution ). Both
decided that the Soviets was going to be a useful instrument in the next revolution. They didn t want
the Soviets to have all the power until they could control them. In the book, Rise and fall of
Communism 2009, Archie Brown shows us that, On 12 October, according to the old calendar,
Trotsky took command of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Petrograd Soviet and on
25 October...the Bolsheviks seized power in Petrograd (Brown 51). Insurrection was to start, but
there were complications with the date set. In the book, The History of the Russian Revolution
1960, Leon Trotsky says, At a session of the Petrograd Soviet on the 18th, Trotsky, in answer to a
question raised by the enemy, declared that the Soviet had not set a date for an insurrection, in the
coming days, but that if it became necessary to set one, the workers and soldiers would come out as
one man (Trotsky 162). There were forty thousand workers in the army of Petrograd.
On the 22nd of October, there was a meeting of the Red
Problems In New York City Essay
New York City and its suburbs are world renowned for many things. However, when it comes to
bicycle integration with public transportation, New York City lies in the shadow of other cities
such as Portland and San Francisco. In these cities, all public buses have bike racks, trains have
bicycle storage, cyclists have access to secure parking at metro stations, and safe bikeways provide
cyclists with a route to metro stations. All four of these characteristics are needed to foster a bicycle
friendly transit system. However, while New York Cityexcels in certain areas of this criteria, it
lacks bike racks on buses and secure bike parking at subway stations. These problems also persist
in New York City s suburbs; however, the suburbs fall even farther behind the city due to their
lack of safe bikeways. With careful planning, these problems can be solved. To fix the lack of
secure parking at downtown metro stations, I suggest implementing bike lockers at large parking
garages in the city. The lack of secure parking at suburban metro stations can be resolved with
more bike lockers at city stations that serve suburban commuter routes. For the shortage of bike
racks on city and suburban buses, the solution is to simply install more bike racks on these buses.
Finally, the lack of safe bikeways in the suburbs can be resolved by building more bus stops closer
to residential areas, which will reduce the need for cyclists to travel long distances on dangerous
main roads.

Oracle Of Delphi To Chaerephon About Socrates
Study Question One: What is the message from the Oracle of Delphi to Chaerephon about
Socrates? Early in Socrates testimony he refers to a witness by the name Chaerephon, he is
described as an early friend of Socrates and to all those present at the trial. It is mentioned that he
was exiled; however, he returned. According to Socrates, Chaerephon acted in a rash manner; thus,
Chaerephon boldly asks the oracleof Delphiwhether any man is wiser than Socrates. The Oracle of
Delphi, also known as the Pythian prophetess, responded saying there was no man wiser (Pojman
and Vaughn). We then learn that Chaerephon was dead, but his brother, who was present in court,
could testify in support of the claim.

Study Question Three: How does Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think of arrogance as excessive pride or dramatization with one s own achievements. The only
blatant case of arrogance to me is when he proposes maintenance in the Prytaneum to be a just
return (Pojman and Vaughn). Looking more into the Prytaneum, I found this is where victorious
Olympic athletes ate for free; for Socrates to say he deserves free meals for the rest of his life
does sound conceited. This feeling must have been shared by the jury, by comparing the first vote,
determining if he was guilty, to the second vote, which determined his punishment, nearly 80 of
those who voted for him to be not guilty supported the death penalty shortly after he made that
remark. It s hard to say if he was serious though, all we get is a synopsis, his gesticulations could
have indicated that he was trying to lighten up the atmosphere with a joke. Some may consider the
anecdote about him finding out he was the wisest man alive from the God of Delphi to be arrogant;
however, he wasn t the one who seeked the answer, it was his friend Chaerephon. Moreover, he was
skeptical to find out that was the case, so he immediately set out to provide counter evidence to the
Oracle. Lastly, emphatically advocating to reproach those who pretend to know something when
they know nothing makes it hard to say he was arrogant; I see his behavior as a healthy skeptic who
was hungry for the truth. The death penalty was absolutely unnecessary; unfortunately, he had more
enemies in the jury than friends. As history shows unconventional views are generally suppressed by
those with a vested interest, those who brought charges against him along with his other enemies
enjoyed the superior social status that came with inflating one s wisdom, and
Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman
Novelist, Gail Godwin, in her short story, A Sorrowful Woman, tells the story of a wife and mother
who experiences pressure of societal norms which eventually leads to her demise. The main
character is overwhelmed with her life taking care of her husband and child. The husband, who is
stereotypically portrayed as perfect and supporting , an important decision of Godwin, copes with
his wifes condition. The mother continues to shut out her familymembers and withdraw from
completing her work as a homemaker. The couple chooses to hire a nanny, who benefits the family
by providing care and help. The main is eventually fired and the mother s condition gets worse. She

Her husband proposes that they hire a nanny, which they do. The main character soon chooses to
fire the nanny, which I believe was a poor decision that ultimately led to the downfall of the
household. I believe firing the maid was a bad decision on the mother s behalf because the nanny s
presence benefitted the entire family. For the main character, the nanny took over many jobs that
would otherwise be left undone given the mother s condition. For the husband and son, the nanny
provided help watching the kid and guidance, respectively. Firing the nanny put the situation,
which seemed to be getting better, on a downhill path which worsened the condition of the mother,
Next morning she fired the girl who cried... [and] took down the watercolors from the walls,
sheathed the records she had danced to, and went away (Godwin 41). This quote signifies the end
of a somewhat hopeful step into a bleak future as the nanny takes with her objects that brought life
into the house. I would ve preferred to see the nanny still working for the family and raising the
child. Although this does not guarantee that the wife will get better, which is probably inevitable,
the nanny made it so the kid grew up with proper care and guidance. The husband also could have
spent more time helping his wife instead of taking on her responsibilities
John Williams Concerto For The Boston Symphony And Pops
In 1985 the famous movie composer John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the
Lost Ark, 1941) wrote a tuba concerto for Chester Schmitz, longtime tubist of the Boston
Symphony and Pops Orchestras. The gravity of this addition to the repertoire cannot be overstated,
as this piece has become a close second in popularity to the Ralph Vaughan
Williams concerto and has likely affected many a composer who has attempted to write a concerto
for the tuba since. The piece is filled with identifiable themes, tonal harmonies, lengthy melodic lines,
and idiomatic writing making this piece highly enjoyable for both audience and performer.
The first movement opens with a powerfully optimistic melody stated by the tuba over a recurring
string (in this case piano)

According to my last service learning experience at ROOTS in 2014, the clients in the shelter

which is mentioned as ROOTS instruction with age 18 to 25. The ethnicity in ROOTS are wide

Since the client s information is private as the law stated for every shelter. I did not have the way

that I have seen in ROOTS. Also, clients in the shelter mostly looked nice and friendly to chat and
play. The most common risk behavior may be that some of the people may use some words of

like to avoid any type of communication. Therefore, the physical violent situation did not occurred

several of them may not take English as their primary language. Overall, these clients all have their

Analysis Of The Book Memoirs Of A Geisha
Memoirs of a Geisha is a beautiful work of meta fiction; where the author implements an
autobiographical approach and fabricates a fictional translator who is supposedly a friend of the
protagonist in the book; Nitta Sayuri a geisha or Geiko of Kyoto, Japan. Here Golden gives an
unusual frame to the storytelling through the voice of the translator Jacob and how Jacob
documents Sayuri s oral narration about the fascinating life she has had as a Kyoto Geisha. This
biographical approach gives the story yet more believable and also can leave the readers confused
between fantasy and reality. The story is set in a period in Japan; which is almost forgotten today.

year old girl. There, she meets a man who was addressed as the chairman , who she immediately
starts to admire and since then she becomes devoted to that man. Later on, after many ups and
downs, she masters the art of becoming an astounding geisha; capable of making men fall in love
with just a single look, which makes her mizuage or virginity most expansive in Gion and finally
a high paying patron buys this privilege when she was 15 years old. After a few escapades in the
company of some most undesirable patrons, she finally becomes the mistress of the man she had
set her heart on all along, the benevolent chairman. In her life as a geisha and before that; with her
little expectation for happiness; this makes her as happy as she could be. This is the man who
stayed with her till his death in Manhattan, U.S, where he helps her set up her own tea house who
became a hub for the intellectuals, artists and businessman all over from Japan and also U.S till

this book actually unveils the history of a patriarchal time period and its impact throughout the life
of a little girl. The author carefully wraps the truth about why Mr Tanaka could only choose being
Geisha or a prostitute as only suitable employment for Chiyo and her sister, rather than some other
helper job at his company. Ultimately, a
Antigone Creative Response To Creon
Creative Response 1 Paragraph

The scene depicted here is the final scene of Antigone where Creon witnesses his son, Haemon,
commit suicide by impaling himself with a sword grieving the death of his beloved Antigone. The
reason I selected this particular scene is how a proud and confident king can be brought down to
his knees by the inevitable natural order of fate. His decision to not listen to the prophet and failing
to disregard human decency seemed to only lead him down a path of destruction. King Creon was a
slave to the social and political order, and the power to execute the will of the state blinded him from
human decency. The unyielding and vindictive act of sending Antigone to death, and indirectly his
son and wife, proves his hunger for power led to his ultimate demise. This a crucial scene ... Show

This later destroys him by choosing the side of the mob and the state over his family. The artistic
choices I prepared were to symbolically represent the scene through the definition of color. The
photo tableau depicts a dim setting with the man Haemon dressed in red holding the weapon of
his death, and the king Creon in black mourning over the death of his son on a black surface. The
red fabric of Haemon is the blood spilled from Creon s blindness, as well as the passion of love
Haemon had for his love Antigone as he could not live without her. The pair of scissors represents
the sword used by Haemon, but also the two blades of the weapon symbolizes that the weapon has
inflicted pain on both the king and his son. The black worn by Creon is depicted in a negative
connotation representing death, also denoting his strength and authority. The black surface and dim

The Ottoman Empire and Judaism
The reason the Jews went to the Ottoman Empire was because the Christians persecuted them
because of their different beliefs. The Jews were so scared of what the Christians might do they
wanted to settle in a safer place which the Ottomans offered them. The Ottomans offering them land
was the best thing the Jewscould have asked for. The Ottomans offered the Jews protection, offered
them communal autonomy and tolerated their religious practices. The Ottomans at the time had a
rule about non Muslims having to pay a tax, which is called the Jitza. The Muslims considered Jews
and Christians dhimmi or the people of the pact. The dhimmi we issued to pay the jitza, and where
forced to follow these rules; prohibition against carrying fire arms, against riding horses, against
building new houses or worship or even repairing old ones, against proselytism, against building
homes higher than Muslim ones, and they must wear distinctive clothing. Even after all of these
rules the Jewish community still thrived in the Ottoman Empire. The population of Jews in the
Ottoman Empire was very distinct and was coming from different places. The most noticeable and
most studied among the Jews in the Ottoman Empire were the Sephardim. The Sephardim had great
political and cultural influence on the Ottoman Empire. The Jews became very valuable to the
Ottomans because of the ties they had with Europe. Europeans brought new languages and
technologies including the newest forms in medicine,
John Duns Scootus Comparison Essay
Love is often a word mistreated by most people. Now days, the word love is thrown around so
much, it has lost its meaning. People forget why we are living, breathing humans today. People
forget about the sacrifices made for the sins we acted out. People forget about the love that God has
for us. It is easy to misinterpret the meaning of Gods love. Human love and God s love are two
different things. The love from the Lord is invincible and no human can come close to that type of
love. God created mankind because He loved humanity.
John Duns Scotus was a Franciscan theologian that had different beliefs among many people.
Many Catholic s believe that the incarnation happened because Adam and Eve sinned; however,
John Duns Scotus disagreed. He believed that the incarnation would have happened regardless if
any sins had taken place or not. This all adds up to one word that would lightly explain God as a
whole: love. God loved humanity, God loved all people. Everything God did was because of love.
The incarnation was predetermined. John Duns Scotus view of thinking is based on love, not sin.
