Clean Water Act Of 1977
Clean Water Act of 1977:
Amendment to the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 Research Paper The Clean Water
Act (CWA) was created in response the rapid loss of clean water. The government wanted to
restore and preserve the water, as much of it was no longer useable for consumption or recreational
use. A lot of this was due to agricultural runoff which lead to a surplus of phosphorus and nitrogen in
many waters. (Tim Martins) The CWA s most prominent effect was stricter regulations on the
discharge of pollutants. Specifically trying to prevent point source pollutions from places such as
pipes and drains and focusing largely on industrial waste. The only exceptions are for those who
have gotten a permit to discharge of waste in a
Modern English Language
There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million
people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of
the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the
evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and
varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the
English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of
America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro
Hungarians, Russians, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants
would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ...
accent and an idiosyncratic syntax (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this
time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South
Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the
English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English
[c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization process, several varieties of the English language were
produced. Examples of the New Englishes were Australian English, South African English,
Caribbean English, and South Asian (History: Late
Everyone Needs Dietary Supplements Essay
Everyone Needs Health Supplements

Some people may say, why bother with health supplements? Some people today would like to
believe that all we have to do to keep ourselves healthy is to eat a proper diet. That s where the
problem lies. The question I propose is, What is a proper diet, and how do you go about getting it
into your system? Some would say, Well by eating healthy food. There s another problem. What
is healthy food and where do you find it? You won t find it at your local grocery store as you will
soon find out. Others might say, We have a garden where we grow our food. That s a start, and it
also tells me that you are already aware of the fact that there is a need for a more nutritional ... Show

I know this not just from reading about this issue, or listening about people talk about this issue but
from my own experience. I know what it is like to feel emotionally and physically tired, although I
was eating what some consider a well balanced diet. I was eating all the right foods. However, I
found out that I was not able to get all of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that an individual
needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Why is that? I would have to consume large amounts of food to
meet the nutritional requirements of my body. Why do I say this? Let me tell you why.

First of all, there is the issue of the nutritional value in the food we eat, or should I say the lack of
nutritional value in the food we eat. There is much evidence available today that clearly states that
the food sources we have are highly deficient in nutritional value.

For a long time the scientific community made light of health supplements. This is no longer true.
The American Medical Association and also the Federal Drug Administration are now singing a
different tune. In fact they are praising the value of health supplements. There is now a new field of
nutritional science specifically for the study of vitamin and mineral supplements.

As I said earlier, one of the most common reasons given for not needing food supplements is, I eat
well balanced meals, I don t need
Herta Muller Research Paper
Herta Müller
Writing is told from within ones self through expressions and thoughts. Creating stories are what
people do as they walk through life, opening and closing doors, and creating history. Becoming
banned to publish in your own country about the struggles and accomplishments throughout your
childhood you would not think would be a problem. It takes unique individuals to accomplish this.
Nobel Prize winner of Literature in 2009, Herta Muller has done this. Her intense, descriptive
novels, essays, poems, and short stories explaining her issues and strategies growing up in a country
which forced labor and banned her from publication is why she won. Herta Müller has discovered
strength and independence through writing, becoming the woman she is today.

With strategic language, details, and events laid out, she writes in a way which carries her stories
and makes them a magnificent read. She recited everything in such detail, in ways it is as if you
are in the middle of the dictatorship where which she suffered in Romania. Professor Pete
Englund, Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy states, She has a story to tell growing up
in a dictatorship and a minority in another country. And, also, growing up in sort of a stranger for
your own family. These words describe in a summary how Müller feels about not only Romania,
but Germany too. A quote from Herta Müller: It is very conservative minority and thus I was
exuded, and I always was exuded from Romanian society for political reasons. And then I came to
Germany and here in Germany I was always the Romanian, and in Romania I was always the
German. So somehow one is always the other. Müller not only found ways to live with the frown of
her home country but also the negativity of Germany, but also posses great characteristics in
Chinese Views on Death and Dying Burial Techniques,...
Chinese religion and strict cultural beliefs are inseparable from the death rites performed. Many
different names for death are scattered throughout Chinese history, including an ideogram that
depicts a person kneeling in front of their ancestor s bones 1. In Chinese culture, death rites are
intricate and well thought out works on preparing one for the afterlife and rebirth. Chinese funeral
rites have strict guidelines as to where the rites are to be performed, how the rites are performed
(ritualbathing of the corpse), the dress of the attendees and the dead, the transfer of material goods
on Earth to the dead, acknowledgement of the deceased and the actual burialof the body. All these
sacred rites are performed by specialists (usually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not much unlike Western culture, different colors hint to a time of mourning. Instead of wearing
black (like in Western cultures), those who are mourning the deceased in China are seen wearing
white clothes, shoes and cloaks that are usually made out of sackcloth or hemp. Although mourning
colors differ in different parts of China, white is the universal color of mourning for the Chinese.
These mourning clothes are usually ragged, unbleached, unhemmed and white. 5

The corpse must go through a series of cleansings and blessings before it is allowed to be buried.
A ritualized bathing of the corpse is required before it goes on to the next step in the rites. In south
China the water is not gathered by the family themselves, but rather, bought from a deity of a sacred
well. This particular rite is called mai shui or roughly translated, buying water . There are

several ways the corpse is cleansed from scrubbing with the water bought, or a

gentle dab on the forehead with the sacred water. Along with the cleaning is the

donning of new clothes on the corpse.

The next step in the funerary rites would be the transfer of material goods to the dead. Things like
paper clothes, cardboard houses, furniture and servants and other things the dead might need in the
afterlife would be transferred into the world of the dead by

Freedom of the Will

The will, in its simplest form, is the ability for one to control one s own actions. Through the will,
the morality of the action is entirely decided by the doer. Augustine professes the will simply
permits the doer to do evil. In Socrates assertion, free will is contingent on self control because
without it, one can find oneself enslaved to a material thing or desire. Based on reading and prior
knowledge, it can be deduced that the only thing that can truly keep one from vice is free will.
As Augustine examines certain events in his own life, he tries to analyze human nature as a whole,
and explores why human beings, even children, have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustine feels while one s choices are ultimately part of God s plan; one should still have the free
will to choose to turn away from him. The intellect leads the souls will, but the will does not
always follow1. This is part of how one can knowingly do wrong. One knows what should be done,
but one can also knowingly act against this2. Intellect may have the truth, one s desires may press
with what one wants to do, but the will ultimately chooses.
Socrates view on free will was the drive for self control. He believed the unexamined life is not
worth living. For Socrates, free will is impossible without self control, for unbridled passions can
remove one s agency. His view in the Republic (as told by Plato) is in conflict with the libertarian
view, where people who are slaves to their desires have the right to self determination, regardless
of what their idea of the best life is. The reason for his disagreement with libertarian free will in
the Republic is justness requires reflection3. This leads to conclude actions are entirely determined
by beliefs of what is the good, and beliefs of what is the good is determined by knowledge.
Socrates believes, in a similar way, nobody willingly chooses to do wrong. Like Augustine, he
advocates doing wrong always harms the wrongdoer and that nobody seeks to bring harm upon
themselves. In this view, all wrongdoing is
Humeral Shaft Fractures
Humeral shaft fractures account for 3 to 5% of all fractures in adults and for 20% of all humeral
fractures. Fractures of the humerus can occur proximally, mid shaft, or distally. Humeral shaft
fractures occur most commonly in the elderly and are significantly associated with impairment of
independence and quality of life. Majority of the fractures are non displaced and can be treated non
operatively, which is still the standard treatment of isolated humeral shaft fractures. Although non
surgical management of humeral shaft fracture can be associated unsatisfactory results. Surgical
treatment is reserved for specific conditions and offers better outcomes. Humeral shaft fractures
those managed with internal fixation supports relative stabilization... Show more content on

It provides strength and resistance to both torsional and bending forces. The proximal humerus
articulates with the glenoid cavity of the scapula to form the shoulder joint. The muscles and tendons
of the rotator cuff, the acromion, and ligamentous attachments between the coracoid process of the
scapula and the acromion serve to both stabilize the gleno humeral joint and provide a wide range of
motion of the shoulder joint. The distal humerus articulates with the radius and ulna at the elbow.
The greater tuberosity is located on the superior aspect of the humerus just lateral to the humeral
head and it provides attachment for three of the rotator cuff muscles supraspinatus, infraspinatus and
teres minor. The lesser tuberosity of the humerus is located on the anterior surface of the humerus
and provides attachment for the subscapularis muscle. To classify the fractures, the lesser tuberosity
marks the boundary between the proximal humerus and the mid shaft. Humeral shaft is enveloped in
the muscles and soft tissue which provide favorable non operative healing mechanism in
uncomplicated fractures. Muscles originating on the humeral shaft include the brachialis,
brachioradialis, and the medial and lateral heads of the triceps brachii. The deltoid, pectoralis major,
teres major, latissimus dorsi, and coracobrachialis all insert on the humeral shaft. Different location
of the fracture along the humeral shaft will have specific deforming forces acting on the fracture
fragments. Fractures near the midpoint of the shaft can have proximal fragment pulled laterally by
the deltoid, while the distal fragment pulled medially by the triceps and biceps. Fractures near mid
shaft of the humerus are more likely to shorten than proximal or distal fractures due to the strong
pull of the biceps and triceps muscles. The blood supply to the humeral shaft
Analysis Of Duffer Brother s Stranger Things
The extract chosen is from the beginning of the television series Stranger Things (2016), directed by
the Duffer Brothers, and follows the main characters: Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas. Before this
extract, there s an introduction to the main characters, in keeping with the suspenseful movie genre,
showing them play a gamecalled Dungeons and Dragons (D D). This introduction follows a
presumed scientist, the main characters playing D D, and the beginning of Will s disappearance.
This sequence was chosen since it s an introduction to characters, plot, and has good use of film
elements and cultural context. A cultural analysis is going to be done through the historical lense via

In order to incite suspenseful feelings and include elements of Sci Fi, cinematography and sound
design were used. The fact that there isn t sound or dialogue in the sequence and that the monster is
never shown greatly increases the scene s suspense. Sound design was utilized to create suspense
because the monster is solely heard with over exaggerated growling. Cinematography created
suspense by using shots that have low key lighting from eye level angle, and sometimes dramatic
high angles, tilting the camera for an upside down POV (Figure 3a). Since the scientist can see what
s chasing him, but we can t a mysterious suspense of the unknown is created. The directors and
cinematographers intended to make shots suspenseful by focusing solely on distinct parts of the
scientist s body, such as his face (Figure 3a), and then pulling into a long shot to show his lower torso
being lifted up (Figure 3b). Immediately after that long, suspenseful sequence, the sequence
transitions to a serene, rural neighborhood sprinkler. This demonstrates a purposeful discontinuity, in
true thriller fashion, with many fluctuations in
