Ocean Carriers Case
The Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business DePaul University FIN 555: Financial
Management Prof. Randy Fisher Case Study Questions: Ocean Carriers These questions relate to
the Ocean Carriers case in your course packet. You can find the data for this case on the course
website in a spreadsheet named: Ocean Carriers Exhibits.xls. This case provides the opportunity
to make a capital budgeting decision by using discounted cash flow analysis to make an
investment and corporate policy decision. Ocean Carriers is a shipping company evaluating a
proposed lease of a ship for a three year period beginning in 2003. The proposed leasing contract
offers very attractive terms, but no ship in Ocean Carrier s current fleet meets... Show more content

How are your results affected? What do you conclude? Useful Hints: a. You need to be consistent
in the treatment of the timing of the cash flows in your analysis. To accomplish this, you should
assume that all cash flows occur at the end of the year closest to the actual date of the cash flow,
so for example if the case states that a cash flow occur in January or early in a specific year, you
should assume that it occurs on Dec 31 of the previous year. This is what makes most sense from
a financial perspective, as the Present Value of a cash flow will be almost exactly the same
whether it occurred on Dec 31 in one particular year, or Jan 1 the following year, as those two
dates are just one day apart. (When there is no mentioning in the case of when within a certain
year a cash flow occurs, assume that it occurs at the end of the year.) b. As stated in the case, you
should assume that operating costs will grow annually at 1% in real terms. You should however be
consistently using nominal cash flows while making the cash flow projections. c. Assume that
Ocean Carriers has a sufficiently high taxable income in each year so that any tax shields can be
used immediately. d. Assume that the ship is depreciated straight line for 25 years to a remaining

Importance of Ambitions in Life Essay
Importance of Ambitions in Life Ambition is defined as a strong desire to obtain success, power,
or riches or as something that you want very much to do or to obtain. Having an ambition
represents everything to many people. The only purpose in a man s life is fulfilling his dream,
because am ambition can be associated with a dream. And if this dream doesn t exist you can t say
that you have lived your life to the full. In the moments of solitary meditation when we are alone
with ourselves and we can no longer lie or delude ourselves, we ask the fundamental question: why
do I have to die, why is it that my life must end, why is my existence finite, limited in time? Ambition
is the catalyst that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creative act is born from an irresistible impulse towards the absolute, that is the wish of the
individual to lift his subjectivity to the maximum perfection allowed by his spiritual resources
and then to transpose this degree of spiritual elevation into a concrete world. On the other hand,
the creative act is born from the hope that people will recognize the value of his work and
therefore remember his name forever. You should consider the first aspiration of the individual.
We can assert that that it is dissolved in a paradox. Of course, the process of creation augments
substantially the spiritual energies of the individual, it even makes him think that he represents
the supreme measure of the generating principle of life, but the work, the product of this process
does not succeed in conveying all the superior exigencies of the creator and, consequently, it does
not completely confirm his exceptional self appreciation during the creation of his work. But in
my opinion when you have an ambition it means that you are living for fulfilling it, you live your
life to the full, you are completely dedicated and focused on what you want to achieve or fulfil.
When you have a certain ambition, even if it is a very strange one and you hope every day that
one day you will fulfil it, you have passion and you give everything you have to see you dream

The White Man s Burden By William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth once said, Life is divided into three terms that which was, which is, and which
will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the
future ( Classic ). Many poems are significant because of the writing that is portrayed for our
pleasure using our emotions. Characters from different novels tend to have the same characteristics
that poems have.
Kipling s poem, The White Man s Burden , written and published in 1899, speaks about the power
that one race has over another. The character Heathcliff from the novel, Wuthering Heights,
depicts the characteristics shown throughout this poem. Kipling s poem articulates superiority
and responsibility by the use of language, form, and meter. The first eight lines explains how the
colonizers are cast as victims. To wait , signifies only the patient one will be served. By waiting
they are waiting like a waiter or a server. They are wearing a harness waiting to be told what they
should do. Half devil and half child , is showing the inferiority between the pure Europeans.
Patience , veil the threat of terror , check the show of pride , open speech , simple , profit , and
gain are phrases of the whites of having to show restraint. Gain , gives a connotation of accusing
satirically towards the non Europeans. In other words, the Europeans believe that they are showing
restraint and are able to gain by helping the Half devil . This next stanza

1984 Personal Response Essay
Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along with
many other things. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears.
In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many
of which I can say I fearmyself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me
to fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history
and truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to
have real emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on in the novel, especially
with the implications of the ending. As much as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately this all leads up to the ending, with 2 + 2 = 5. Mathematical laws of addition would
show that the equation of 2 + 2 would equal 4. Yet what is shown by the party s manipulation is
that it is possible to make someone believe that 2 + 2 = 5. By physically and mentally completely
breaking people down to an almost breaking point, it is possible to reprogram their thought process
to really think it equals five. This
Much Ado About Nothing Misogyny
Much Ado about Nothing (c. 1598) is often considered as Shakespeare s happiest comedy , as love
is found by the unlikely and good triumphs over the evil trickery of the plays antagonist Don John.
However despite the play s merriment, there is an aspect of melancholia. Arguably Much Ado about
Nothing is a warning of the potential tragedy that can come from miscommunication and deception.
The play has two main plots. One centers around Hero and Claudio s relationship, and highlights
youthful romantic love. This can be evidenced by Shakespeare s use of blank verse, this gives the
words spoken by Hero and Claudio a sense of romance due to the excessive positive imagery and
poetic lyricism, for example: Thronging soft and delicate desires .... Show more content on

Their relationship draws parallels with another Shakespearean play, perhaps the most tragic of
them all; Romeo and Juliet (c.1597). Hero and Claudio similarly to Romeo and Juliet, met and
became engaged in a matter of days, upon a conflict in the story the principal female stages her
death. However, unlike the well known tragedy, Hero and Claudio resolve their issues and we can
presume lived happily ever after. The likeness of both plays presents the idea that perhaps Much Ado
About Nothing is more tragic than expected. Therefore this would agree with the statement that at
times Shakespearean comedy veers uncomfortably close to tragedy . The wedding scene in Much
Ado is one of the most blatantly tragic scenes in any of his comedies and this is a plot device
added to emphasize the humour and positivity of the ending. For example in Act IV scene I of
Much Ado About Nothing, though this scene is the climactic and tragic peak of the story, it does
not label the play as solely tragic. The contrast of tragedy shows the importance of the comedy
Shakespeare commonly added comic relief to his Tragedies. So, when Claudio rejects Hero in so
vile a fashion using phrases like rotten orange and she hath known the heat of a luxurious bed the
play takes on a tragic element and yet, Shakespeare has introduced this dark moment in a play to
The State Of Qatar And The Isaias Afwerki Regime
The State of Qatar, until recently the main financier and patron of the Isaias Afwerki regime, is
now its enemy together with Iran and Turkey, the triad that the Eritrean regime alleges it promotes
the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood. In March 2015, a Saudi led coalition with the United
Arab Emirate as its major partner started a war in Yemen over the Houthi rebellion which has been
simmering for many years. That must have been a boon for the Eritrean regime. Since it came to
power in 1991 after defeating the Ethiopian Derg regime, the rebel group has been pursuing a goal of
becoming a major actor in the geopolitics of the volatile region that includes Ethiopia, Sudan,
Somalia, Djibouti, Yemen, and the Congo. That overly ambitious... Show more content on

That cheap pandering certainly doesn t benefit Eritrea; its only value is simply reiterating his
government s loyalty to the Saudi led alliance, in addition to appeasing the ultra nationalists

Eritrea is opposed to the Muslim Brotherhood and we do not allow them to come and preach in

adding Israel to the lot and stating, we are not eager to see countries such as Turkey, Israel, Iran

stating that, Eritrea is on a solid path as it relates to her relations with the region. we feel we have

Effects Of The Battle Of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery

Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of
Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were
beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloo had a direct effect
on how we use artillery today.
The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic
wars and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. The French marched into Belgium with 70,000 troops
and 256 artillery pieces (Stevenson, n.d.). They were met by the British Army led by, the Duke of
Wellington, Arthur Wellesly. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians),
the British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces.
Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he
worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This led to a fatal
miscalculation he decides not to attack until midday, in an attempt to allow the battlefield to dry. The
delay, would allow Marshal Blucher s Prussian Army enough time to join the fight.
Napoleon starts the battle by bringing up 74 artillery pieces and begins bombarding the British with
canon fire. They sweep and zone the battlefield with 3000 rounds over 30 minutes. To counteract the
artillery fire, Duke Wellington

Theory based strategies help carers of Looked after Children to facilitate and rebuild secure
attachments when they are supporting and working with children in care, or if they move
placements for example, into an adoptive or foster family. These strategies help the carers manage
and understand challenging behaviour that is often caused as a consequence of an insecure
attachment. Attachment can be defined as a long lasting bond that is developed by infants towards
their parents and is described as a positive emotional link between two people a link of affection .
(Lindon,1998,35,Cited in Crawford et al, 2005). Attachment disorders can impact on a child s
developmental wellbeing throughout childhood and into adolescence. Evaluating the attachment
theory can show different ways these disorders affect the relationship of the child and carer.

British psychotherapist, John Bowlby (1907 1990) was recognized as the father of the attachment
theory and advanced a multidisciplinary stance, which included psychoanalysis with ethnology and
cognitive development. Bowlby (1969) wanted to understand more about the level of distress that
occurred in infants when they were separated from their parents and how that experience impacted
on their developmental wellbeing.

There are strong associations between early insecure attachments and later negative vulnerabilities

Chronic Acalculous Cholecystitis
When a patient comes with abdominal pain, it can be due to different causes. The pain may be
visceral, somatoparietal or referred pain as an indicator of a wide variety of systemic and local
causes. Visceral pain is from abdominal distention or stretching of the muscle fibers, carried by
sympathetic nerve fibers, presents as dull, poorly localized painin the mid areas of the abdomen.
Somatic pain occurs once the parietal peritoneum is inflamed or irritated, and passed by sensory
fibers. Somatic pain is better defined and more localized, high intensity, and also associated with
tenderness and spasm of the localized muscle groups.

pain, she rated her pain as eight on the scale of 0 to 10 as 10 being the worse pain. The pain of
Ms. G is in her upper abdomen and radiating to her upper right back and right scapular tip
consistent with Collins sign. The pain initially stated as achy but changed to colicky in nature and
became more constant. The pain started after she ate and vomited few times before arrival.
Percussion of Ms. G s abdomen is significant for tenderness to palpation towards her upper right
quadrant a positive murphy s sign, without rebound tenderness. Bowel sounds are normal. Ms. G s
clinical presentation is consistent with Cholecystitis. The pain for Cholecystitis usually starts within
an hour post food; it can last from one to five hours and increases steadily over ten to twenty
minutes along with Collins sign, and the pain doesn t relieve after vomiting.

First Aid for Adults Essay
First Aid for Adults

For my listening piece I decided to do a talk on first aid for adults. I identified the main
characteristics of scripted speech and tried to emulate them in my piece. The key characteristics of
instructional speech are that it uses very short, concise sentences to give directions. Long complex
sentences can lead to ambiguity and confusion. Instructional speech uses simple, easy to understand
vocabulary as complicated wording, jargon and terminology make instructions difficult to understand
and may confuse the listener. The points must also be presented in a logical order to make them
easy to follow.

The audience should be addressed directly, using a fairly personal, ... Show more content on

In my third and fourth drafts, I put the information into even smaller blocks to emphasise the
succinct style of writing because I felt that it was still too difficult to follow; so I used more bullet
points and used capitals, underlining and italics to emphasise key words and phrases. Also in the
graphology of the piece I have used dashes in order to more effectively show where the reader
would give a slight pause. An example is in a hundred compressions a minute just under two a
second .

In the third paragraph in particular, the sentences were too complex so having originally written
them as one complex sentence in the pluperfect tense, I broke them down in to one point per
sentence and put them in the present tense so that it would be easier to understand. I also changed
some of the verbs that were in the present tense into the imperative form because it made the
phonology sharper and clearer for the audience to hear. One example is in the sentence After you
have returned to the casualty and rechecked their breathing and they are not breathing or if the
likely cause of unconsciousness is trauma or drowning and they are not breathing, you now give two
rescue breaths . The sentence was much too long and confusing so I changed it to When you return
to the casualty re check their breathing. If they are not breathing or if the likely cause
Theme Of Racial Intolerance In To Kill A Mockingbird
There are many themes shown throughout the book To Kill a Mockingbird. The author, Harper
Lee made the novel take place in the 1930s and in a fictional town called Maycomb County in
Alabama. The narrator was a young girl in the novel names Scout Finch. Throughout the book
Scout, her older brother Jem, and her best friend Dill discover new things and become more
mature. Then towards the end of the book Atticus, the father of Jem and Scout, agrees to defend a
black man named Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a white girl. In the book To Kill a
Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, racial intolerance and courage are two of the many themes
demonstrated throughout the novel.

It shows that whites are treated differently than blacks. If Boo Radley was black, he would ve
probably went to jail and not the courthouse basement. As a result, throughout the book whites and
blacks are treated differently and the blacks are kinda afraid of the whites. Another theme that is
shown in To Kill a Mockingbird is courage. In the book, a blacked man named Tom Robinson is
accused of raping a white girl. The father of the white girl, Bob Ewell is the one that said he saw
Tom Robinson rape his daughter. Atticus, the father of Jem and Scout, shows a lot of courage by
defending Tom Robinson in court. In the book Atticus says, In our courts, when it s a white man
s word against a black man s, the white man always wins (Lee 295). This shows that he basically
knows that it s impossible for Tom to win in court, but he defends him anyways because he thinks
it s the right thing to do. Atticus tried his best to help Tom win, but in the end it didn t happen.
Tom should ve won but just like Atticus said there s no way a black man is going to win against
an all white jury. If somebody else would ve defended Tom, he probably would ve lost in court
right away, but Atticus tried really hard to win it for him. Therefore that is how Atticus showed
courage in the book, he went along by himself to go against all the whites and defend the black man,
Tom Robinson, because he thought it was the right thing to do. Boo Radley also shows courage
throughout the novel.
Career And Technical School System
Throughout the United States and even the world, there are many different types of schools that
children are able to attend. These schools are also located in different environments, such as rural,
urban, and suburban. Not only are there different environments, there are also a wide range of
schools to pick from; public, private, boarding, charter, home schooling, online and career/technical
schooling. The career/technical schoolsystem is very different from the majority of other schools.
However, they are very beneficial to the future of the students, especially for collegereadiness across
the nation. Through this website, https://www.acteonline.org/, we see that career and technical
schools are very technology driven. Career and technical schools are educational facilities that
allow students to explore a specific career or field that they are interested in. They offer
approximately sixteen different career and technical choices and over 70 different sub careers
ranging from Educationand Training, Government and Public Administration, Manufacturing,
Information Technology, Finance, Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to
Transportation, Distribution and Logistics plus other career fields of interest that appeal to the
students. The Career and Technical Education Schools are able to fulfill the needs of employers
who are looking for specific criteria when hiring a new employee to fill an available position within

Ancient Mesopotamia Geography
The geographical location was an important factor in many of the ancient civilizations. Where the
people settled determined whether they would have success at surviving. Both Mesopotamia and
Egypt were ancient civilizations founded in roughly the same longitude and latitude area of the
world. Hot dry areas full of dessert. What drew early civilizations to settle on these locations was
the same for both places, land near water that was good for planting. What is different about each
location is what makes these two early civilizations vastly different yet extremely important to our
world today, the natural resources and the way the early settlers utilized them. Both Mesopotamiaand
Egypt were founded near large rivers. To be a farmer and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Egypt also had Oasis s, where natural water can be found in the middle of the desert. Some
settlers settled around the Oasis because of the fresh supply of water. The nomadic travelers
moved their herds of animals through the desert did so from Oasis to Oasis. Another key
geographical feature of Egypt is the Sinai Peninsula which is in the northernmost portion of
Egypt that it connects that main area to the Red Sea. The ancient Egyptians referred to the fertile
area along the Nile river bank as the black land and the desert as the red land. Egypt has flooding
from the Nile that brings the silt which is black to the riverbanks making the land extremely fertile
and very easy to plant in. This afforded Egyptians the opportunity to plant many farms with crops as
well as provide the necessary nutrients to have farms with animals. What is a major difference
between the Egyptian and Mesopotamia civilizations is the difference in the natural resources.
Mesopotamia had a limited resources, Egypt had best amounts of resources, such as minerals,
limestone, gold and other very valuable precious metals and stones. These resources the provided
the Egyptian people with many things to trade and it helped set the course for the type of life that
the Egyptian lived. Mesopotamia peoples had to make do with what the land provided. These
