Based On An Urgency Rating Scale
based on an Urgency Rating Scale (URS). Prioritization based on other considerations has also
been proposed for situations where the risk of death is low (Hadorn, 2000). In Dolan and
Cookson s (Dolan Cookson, 2000) work the different principles of for priority setting decision
makings have been focused qualitatively (e.g. need, equity and fairness principles). However,
quantitative approaches have yet to be developed. Nagel and Lauerer (Nagel Lauerer, 2016)
comprehensively discussed the different prioritization factors in their book and MacCormick et
al. (MacCormick, et al., 2003) thoroughly discussed the different prioritization factors and their
weighing, in a review on prioritization systems of patients. The prioritization has been considered
within scheduling problem for surgical patients as well. In Testi et al. (Testi, et al., 2008) and
Valente et al. (Valente, et al., 2009) the subset of patients to be operated on among the waiting list
and their order of admission (based on the prioritization system) was introduced which were based
on both the waiting time of the patient since its referral and its urgency status. Valente et al.
(Valente, et al., 2009) developed a model to prioritize access to elective surgery on the basis of
clinical urgency and waiting time. While, Testi et al. (Testi, et al., 2008) in their research emphasized
the importance of using both urgency related groups (URGs) and scoring system for scheduling
patients admissions in an explicit and
How Age Affects Hearing
The concept of this project is to test how age affects hearing. Hearing is important because it is a
survival tactic and form of communication. Hearing loss causes many difficulties, and it is
important to realize that hearing will not always be there. This study was inspired by ongoing
studies about the relationship of hearing and age. Humans can hear frequencies from 20 Hz to
20,000 Hz. Humans tend to hear sounds between 300 to 4,000 Hz because human speech is centered
around these tones. The pitch of a sound depends on its frequency. The separation of frequencies
occurs in the cochlea. A high note causes one area of the cochlea s basilar membrane to vibrate, and
a low pitch has the same effect on a different part of the cochlea s basilar... Show more content on

This process is called presbycusis. Presbycusis mostly changes the way the inner ear is shaped,
causing sounds to be processed differently. It can also occur from changes in the middle ear, or
changes in the nerves leading to the brain. Sometimes, sounds are heard at a lower pitch or not
heard at all. The higher frequencies are more commonly affected by presbycusis. Sensorineural
hearing loss is caused by over stimulated cells that die through oxidative cell death. This hearing loss
is most commonly noise induced and not commonly associated with age. However, this hearing
loss can be hereditary. People with this type of hearing loss have a harder time hearing lower
frequencies. Both types of hearing loss effect this test. Other causes of hearing loss are family
medical history, informalities in the brain or ears, and drugs. Drugs tend to be a cause of short
term hearing loss, but they could cause permanent damage. Gender is another factor that could
affect hearing. Some studies are beginning to show that women lose the lower frequencies and
men tend to lose higher frequencies. This difference is due to hormones and cardiovascular
disease. CDV can occur in both men and women, but is more likely in women. Decreased blood
flow to the ears is caused by the damaged blood
The Importance Of Plagiarism In Writing
Choices Plagiarism is when you take any form of writing and make it your own without giving
proper credit to the owner. You can also be plagiarizing if you use some of your old work without
the teacher knowing you did so. In universities across America about ¾ of people are involved in
some kind of academic dishonesty (Heckler, Rice, and Bryan 229). Many students have different
reasons as to why they had to cheat on an assignment and they range from not having enough
time, not getting the sufficient information from the teacher or for the assignment, and
sometimes some students also say that the teacher almost gives them no choice (Puka). RO In
The Words [Be sure this text is properly titled in your writing] the main character is struck with
an important realization; that his writing will never be as good as the owner of the manuscript he
found. In a simple confusion between him and his wife he makes a split moments decision and
decides that he will take ownership of the manuscript. His wife pushes him to show it to someone
and he ends up giving it to a publisher. Months pass by since he has given it and he almost forgets
about it until the publisher comes back and tells him he loves the book and he wants to publish it.
Years pass by and the man is now very well known author and has made a name and money off of
someone else s manuscript and no one but he knows what he has done. One day this old man
confronts him about what he has done and the man starts feeling guilty
The Afro Bolivian Community Of Kalakala
Sweat beaded down my back as I paused to think about where I could use the bathroom. I turned
around to see my host mother carefully and swiftly picking the coca leaves one by one and
stuffing them into a bag that was tied around her waist. The voice of Jorge Medina, an afro
Bolivian advocate echoed from the radio next to her. The government has taken significant steps
to recognize the Afro Bolivian population in the census, but more work still needs to be done. In
many of rural areas Afro Bolivians still do not have access to quality education and even learning
their history in schools. Many Afro Bolivian farmers do not have clean water in their homes or do
not have bathrooms. Just then my host mother looked up at me. Slightly embarrassed I asked, her
where can I use the bathroom. She pointed to a bush nearby, make sure you go quickly and duck
so no one sees you. Before doing fieldwork in the Afro Bolivian community of KalaKala, I did not
anticipate asking the questions like where would I use the bathroom? Would there be clean running
water to drink? In fact, these questions were far from my mind. My notebook was filled with other
questions that focused on the emerging Afro Bolivian movement and with notes of interviews with
Afro Bolivian activist in the city of La Paz. I was intrigued by their answers that were filled with
hope that change was coming. I young Afro Bolivian activist in the activist group ORISBOL told
me, We are two percent of the population, but we
Essay on FLQ Crisis
On October 5, 1970, British trade commissioner James Cross was kidnapped in his Westmount
home by members of the terrorist group Front de liberation du Quebec. The FLQ Manifesto
called for non democratic separation to be brought about by acts of terror. From 1963 to 1967,
the FLQ planted 35 bombs; from 1968 to 1970 they planted over 50 bombs. By the fall of 1970
the terrorist acts of the FLQ cells had claimed 6 lives. The kidnappers demands included the
release of a number of convicted or detained FLQ members and the broadcasting of the FLQ
Manifesto. The Manifesto was read on Radio Canada. Then, on October 10th, the Quebec minister
of justice guaranteed safe passage to anywhere in the world for the kidnappers in exchange for the

Under the sweeping authority of the act, 465 Canadians were so rounded up. A day later, on
Saturday October 17th, the body of Pierre Laporte was found stuffed in the trunk of a green
Chevrolet. In Ottawa, government sources said the FLQ assassinated Laporte because War Measures
was enacted. The tension that night was palpable. John Turner, the minister of justice, looked
distraught. In his office, Trudeau ministers Gerard Pelletier and Jean Marchand were weeping openly
at the death of an old friend and colleague. Early in December 1970, police discovered the location
of the kidnappers holding James Cross. He was released after his FLQ captors were given safe
passage to Cuba. Four weeks later Paul Rose and the kidnappers of Pierre Laporte were found in
the corner of a country basement. They were tried and convicted for kidnapping and murder. The
October Crisis was the first time in Canadian history the state itself, both in Ottawa and in Quebec
City, was held to ransom by extremists and terrorists. It was also the first time, in peace time, that
Ottawa invoked War Measures. It was a drastic step to take and one laced with very dangerous side
effects. In the guilt by association atmosphere engendered by War Measures hysteria, the terrorism
and extremism of the separatist FLQ tarnished all separatist movements in Quebec. Also, Rene

Merck Research Laboratories And Pharmaceutical Companies...
Merck Research Laboratories and Pharmaceutical firms in the world. Scientist Dr. Campbell and Dr.
Mohammad Aziz, have made great progress in developing a cure that will make a difference in
disease called River Blindness. River Blindness is a disease known for being life threatening to those
who contract the disease. Its symptoms include severe itching throughout the body, skin
disfigurations, and total if not permanent blindness. As chairman of Merck, it is my decision on
whether to allow Dr. Campbell and Dr. Mohammad Aziz and their researchteam to continue or
discontinue their research to find a cure for River Blindness. I must answer several question
before arriving at my final decision. Questions such as: should as a company invest more time
and money into developing ivermectin into a drug that is safe for humans knowing it will likely
never be profitable, or should I put a stop to any further research knowing that it could negatively
impact profits? I will need to gather facts about the disease, define what ethical issues our
company are responsible for, look all those affected by the disease, what consequences will we
suffer as a company, what our obligations as a company are, what does this decision same about
our integrity as a company and me personally, and what potential actions or plans will need to be
put in place. In making my decision, I will apply the Eight Steps to Sound Ethical Decision Making
process to arrive at my final decision. This process will
Medieval Women In The Middle Ages Essay
Throughout the Middle Ages, the place of women in society was often limited and they hardly had
any power over men. However, this would soon change in the Medieval Europe. Women could run
manors, become nuns, and mainly ran the house. Women also had a new place in society and many
of these women became famous and well known because of this. Women in Medieval Europe had
more opportunities than ever before.
Women did many various jobs and improved and gave variety to the workforce. The women who
ran the Manors would often ran manors, farms and castles single handedly. She was an influential
person who had to deal with the management of acres of land, crops, animals and property; hundreds
of employees and their homes; legal arguments, fights, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Very few women rose to prominence in the medieval ages. One of the earliest of them was Hilda of
Whitby who was a notable abbess in the 7th century. She achieved high learning in Celtic
monasticism and later founded the Whitby Abbey. This abbey was for both men and women who
worshipped together but lived separately. She attained sainthood and was immensely revered all over
England. Another influential woman was Saint Catherine who was a notable Church figure in the
fourteenth century who extensively wrote on theological matters and played a very active part in
bridging the divide between Papal authority and political authority. During the 14th century, she was
instrumental in mitigating the influence of the anti Papal league. Catherine also convinced the
Pope to move back to Rome and remained a very active figure in the church. Medieval queens were
the most influential and powerful women during this time. Eleanor of Aquitaine was an unusual
medieval figure who was able to attain immense influence and power in medieval ages during the
12th century. Eleanor first married King Louis VII of France but due to the lack of an heir, the
marriage was annulled. She later married King Henry II of England. She became the patron of a
number of literary figures and remained a very influential political, social and cultural figure
throughout her
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solid Phase Extraction
Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is a sample preparation step which is important in determination of
specific compounds in foods. SPE offers many opportunities not only for analysis of a large
diversity of food samples but also for optimization and advances. 5 Besides, Solid phase extraction
methods for DNA have been developed in recent years in formats that enable high throughput DNA
extractions. Moreover, Solid phase extraction (SPE) is widely used for clean up in food analysis,
and has largely replaced classical gravity column chromatography. 6 Furthermore, the applications of
SPE are determination of sympathomimetic amines in blood, urine and tissues, Benzodiazepines
screening in urine, determination of cocaine and cocaine metabolites and anabolic steroids in urine
and Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in blood, serum or plasma.
Liquid liquid Extraction Liquid liquid extraction is also known as solvent extraction. It is a
separation process which is based on the different distribution of the components to be separated
between two liquid phases. It depends on the mass transfer of the component to be extracted from ...

For direct extraction, dip the fibre coating into the aqueous sample and the analytes can partition
between the coating and the matrix. For headspace extraction, place the fibre in the headspace above
the aqueous matrix during extraction. Extracting the volatile analytes only, but this method is
advantageous for high molecular weight interfering samples. When a sample contains both high
molecular weight interfering and non volatile compounds, such as proteins, it is quite difficult to
