Welcome to IMTAP! This is an interactive study group designed just for
students like you in AMCI’s Part 1 and i2mc courses. This is a seven-
week course that will introduce you to medical terminology and basic
anatomy & and physiology.

We will build your understanding through a mix of repetition and fun

educational games that make learning easier and more enjoyable. I’m

System
The nervous system can be broadly divided into
two main components: the Central Nervous
System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System
(PNS). Here's a brief overview of the key
differences between them:

Central Nervous System (CNS):

• Location: The CNS consists of the brain
and spinal cord.
• Function: It is the main processing center
that receives, interprets, and initiates
responses to sensory information. The
CNS integrates and coordinates signals
and is responsible for higher cognitive
functions.
• Protection: The CNS is protected by bony
structures (skull for the brain and
vertebral column for the spinal cord) and
layers of meninges (protective
membranes).
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS):
• Location: The PNS includes all nervous tissue
outside the CNS.
• Function: It serves as a communication network
between the CNS and the rest of the body. The PNS
is responsible for transmitting sensory information
to the CNS and carrying motor commands from the
CNS to muscles and glands.
• Components: The PNS consists of nerves, sensory
receptors, ganglia, and various sensory and motor
neurons.
