Chapter 3:rise of void fang
The morning air in Kagehara City was crisp and bright, a stark
contrast to the tension simmering beneath the surface. People
went about their daily lives, unaware of the danger looming just
beyond the skyline.
Suddenly, the calm shattered.
A massive red portal tore open above the city plaza, the sky
darkening as crimson energy pulsed wildly. The portal’s edges
crackled violently, lightning lashing outward. Citizens screamed
and scattered as a monstrous demon stomped through the
gateway.
Its thick, crimson-scaled skin rippled with muscle, eyes burning
like molten lava. This was no ordinary enemy — far stronger
than most demons the city’s defenders had faced recently. Not
Malgorith-level, but a threat that demanded every ounce of
strength the Blade Breakers and Guards could muster.
From the shadows, the Blade Guards formed a defensive line,
gripping their elemental swords tightly. Their manmade blades
hummed with power, the colors of lightning, wind, and petals
shimmering in anticipation.
The three Blade Breakers emerged with purpose—Rin’s green
Daichiken gleaming with earth magic, Fenji’s blue Mizukiri
flowing like water, and Kaito’s blazing red Enginmaru flickering
with flame.
Rin’s eyes sharpened. “This demon is tough. It’s not Malgorith,
but it won’t fall easily.”
Fenji added, water swirling around his blade. “These Red
Portals are becoming more frequent. We can’t afford mistakes.”
Kaito’s jaw clenched. “Blade Guards, stay sharp. We’ll need
your support.”
The demon roared and charged, shaking the ground with each
thunderous step.
Kaito met the charge, his sword blazing as he slammed into the
demon’s massive arm. The impact sent shockwaves through
the street, cracking concrete and tossing debris.
Rin summoned earth spikes from the cracked ground to slow
the beast’s advance, but the demon’s thick hide absorbed the
strikes, barely flinching.
Fenji twisted through the battle, conjuring water shields to
protect civilians trapped in the crossfire. His blade cut through
rubble, creating safe paths.
The Blade Guards unleashed lightning and petal storms, their
combined elemental magic a brilliant spectacle, but the
demon’s ferocity kept pushing forward.
Rin shouted over the chaos, “Focus on its limbs! We need to
cripple it before it reaches the crowd!”
Kaito grunted, dodging a fiery swipe, “It’s fast. Too fast.”
Fenji’s voice was steady, “Coordinate your attacks—we have to
buy time.”
Together, they struck, but the demon countered with brutal
force, sweeping a massive tail that sent several Blade Guards
flying.
Despite their power, the fight was wearing on the defenders.
Sweat dripped from their brows, breaths coming in ragged
gasps.
Rin took a deep breath, gathering strength. “This ends now.”
he called upon the earth beneath them, summoning a towering
pillar that pinned the demon’s leg.
Fenji moved swiftly, weaving water around his sword, creating
a spiraling torrent that encased the demon’s other leg, slowing
its movement.
Kaito’s eyes burned bright. “Flame strike—full power!”
He unleashed his Inferno Burst, a wave of fire surging
forward, engulfing the demon in roaring flames.
The demon screamed in rage, thrashing wildly, but the
coordinated assault was breaking its defenses.
As the demon faltered, the Blade Guards seized the moment,
charging with lightning and wind-infused blades that crackled
and sliced through the air.
The battlefield exploded with elemental fury—petals whirled to
heal wounded comrades even as bolts of lightning seared the
demon’s flesh.
The demon lunged one last time, but Kaito leapt into the air,
landing a blazing pillar directly into its chest.
The creature’s roar turned to a strangled gurgle before it
disintegrated into shadow, the red portal collapsing behind it
with a final thunderclap.
Silence fell over the plaza.
Rin wiped grime from his face, breathing heavily. “That was
close.”
Fenji’s gaze was somber. “This was no ordinary demon... and it
won’t be the last.”
Kaito looked around at their exhausted comrades. “We’ve won
this battle, but the war’s just beginning.”
Blade Guards tended to their wounded, repairing city damage
while citizens slowly returned, grateful but shaken.
Meanwhile, miles away in the peaceful mountain wilderness,
Haruki moved quietly through the forest, the only sound his
boots crunching over fallen leaves.
His mind was far from calm.
He paused, noticing a strange glint beneath a dense thicket of
bushes.
Curiosity piqued, he knelt and pushed aside branches.
There, half-buried in shadow, lay a sword unlike any he had
ever seen—black as the void itself, absorbing the light around
it.
Haruki’s fingers brushed the hilt, feeling an unnatural pulse, a
faint energy rippling through the blade.
The sword’s aura was cold but alive, pulling at something deep
inside him.
From behind, soft footsteps approached.
Master Ryujin appeared, his expression unreadable.
“You’ve found it,” Ryujin said quietly. “Void Fang.”
Haruki looked up, confusion in his eyes. “Why was it hidden
here? And why me?”
Ryujin studied the sword carefully. “Void Fang is rare—one of
the few natural swords. Unlike the manmade blades, its power
is ancient and mysterious.”
He continued, “It manipulates shadows and emptiness. Its
wielder can bend the void to their will, but it demands great
skill and balance.”
Haruki gripped the sword tighter. “What happens if I fail?”
Ryujin’s eyes darkened. “Then it consumes you.”
Back at headquarters, the Blade Breakers gathered as Haruki
entered with Void Fang strapped to his back.
The room fell silent, all eyes drawn to the black sword that
seemed to drink in the light around it.
Rin’s breath caught. “That sword... it’s Void Fang.”
Fenji’s expression was a mix of awe and unease. “I’ve never
felt a blade like that.”
Kaito’s tone was cautious but firm. “It’s unlike any sword we’ve
seen. Powerful, yes... but dangerous.”
Ryujin addressed the group. “Void Fang’s power is unique. It is
natural, not manmade. Its abilities are shadow and void
manipulation—rare and difficult to master.”
He glanced at Haruki. “This sword chose you. You’ll need to
learn its ways carefully.”
Haruki nodded, feeling the weight of the moment.
Ryujin’s voice was calm but carried weight as he addressed the
group. “Void Fang’s power is unique and ancient. Unlike
manmade swords, it channels the void — shadows, emptiness,
the space between things.”
He glanced meaningfully at Haruki. “It chose you for a reason.
That connection will test you, but also protect you.”
Rin’s eyes softened. “We’ve fought many battles, and this city
has survived because we stand together. Void Fang or not,
you’re part of that bond now.”
Fenji nodded. “The blade’s aura is unsettling, but also inspiring.
I’ve never felt anything quite like it.”
Kaito’s gaze was sharp but not unkind. “Remember, power
without control can consume you. We’ll be watching your
back.”
Haruki felt the weight of their trust and responsibility settle on
his shoulders. The sword’s cold pulse seemed to synchronize
with his heartbeat. “I won’t let you down. I’ll master it.”
The training room grew quiet except for the rhythmic sound of
steel slicing air and the soft thuds of footsteps.
Haruki moved slowly, focusing on controlling the sword’s eerie
black energy. Shadows shifted unnaturally with each motion,
curling around the blade like living smoke.
Rin observed carefully. “The void is not just darkness. It’s a
force—still, patient, but overwhelming when unleashed.”
Fenji added, “It’s like the calm before a storm—empty, yet full
of potential.”
Kaito cracked his knuckles. “I want to see how it reacts in battle
soon. But don’t rush. Learn the limits.”
Master Ryujin sat silently, eyes closed, as if sensing something
beyond the physical realm. After a long moment, he opened his
eyes and said softly, “The void hides many secrets. You must
be ready for what comes.”
Haruki swallowed hard, the sword’s weight in his hands both a
burden and a promise.
Outside, the city’s skyline glowed faintly against the night,
peaceful for now but watching those shadows creeping closer.
The Blade Breakers stood side by side, their swords faintly
glowing under the stars—green, blue, red... and black.
Haruki’s gaze swept across his comrades, feeling the silent
strength they shared.
Rin broke the quiet with a small smile. “Whatever comes next,
we face it together.”
Fenji’s voice was steady. “The darkness is growing. But so are
we.”
Kaito nodded firmly. “We’ve survived worse. And this city
depends on us.”
Haruki tightened his grip on Void Fang. “Then let’s make sure
they never fall.”
As the night deepened, the four warriors prepared—not just for
the battles ahead, but for the shadows yet to reveal
themselves.
The war was coming.
