Pressure-Based Questions (Class 8 Level)

1. A force of 100 N is applied on a surface of area 2 m². What is the pressure on the surface?

2. A wooden block of 5 kg rests on a table. (Take gravity, g = 10 m/s²) What is the pressure it exerts

if the contact area is 0.5 m²?

3. A man weighing 800 N stands on a shoe sole with area 0.02 m². What pressure does he exert on

the ground?

4. A brick exerts a force of 60 N on the ground. Find the pressure if the area of contact is 0.3 m².

5. An elephant exerts a force of 40000 N while standing on one foot of area 0.4 m². Find the

pressure on the ground.

6. A sharp knife has a small area of 0.005 m² and it is pressed with a force of 50 N. What is the

pressure applied by the knife?

7. A school bag weighing 120 N has base area of 0.4 m². What pressure does it exert on your

shoulder?

8. A woman exerts a force of 600 N on the floor through her heels. If the area of the heel is 0.015

m², calculate the pressure.

9. A tractor tire touches the ground over an area of 2 m² and exerts a force of 3000 N. What

pressure does it apply on the ground?

10. A force of 250 N is acting on a surface. The pressure exerted is 50 Pa. What is the area of the

surface?
Answer Key

1. Pressure = 100 N / 2 m² = 50 Pa

2. Force = 5 kg × 10 = 50 N; Pressure = 50 / 0.5 = 100 Pa

3. Pressure = 800 N / 0.02 m² = 40000 Pa

4. Pressure = 60 / 0.3 = 200 Pa

5. Pressure = 40000 / 0.4 = 100000 Pa

6. Pressure = 50 / 0.005 = 10000 Pa

7. Pressure = 120 / 0.4 = 300 Pa

8. Pressure = 600 / 0.015 = 40000 Pa

9. Pressure = 3000 / 2 = 1500 Pa

10. Area = 250 N / 50 Pa = 5 m²
