Host (with dramatic flair):

“If you prick us, do we not bleed?”

Whoa! Now that is a line that makes you stop and think, doesn’t it?

Hey everyone! Welcome to Day 1 of Literary Week — happening from the

14th to the 18th of July — and this year’s theme is “Know the Characters
in English Literature.”

Now, let’s talk about a character who is bold, complicated, and definitely
not your typical villain — the unforgettable Shylock from The Merchant of
Venice.

Some say he’s the bad guy, some say he’s misunderstood — but one
thing’s for sure… Shylock is not easy to ignore.

He’s a Jewish moneylender, yes, but he’s also a father, a businessman,

and a man who’s been mocked, insulted, and pushed to the edge. He
demands a “pound of flesh” — literally — but before we gasp, let’s ask…
why?

Behind all that anger is pain. Behind the tough words is a cry for justice.
Shakespeare gives us a character who’s not black or white — but
somewhere in the grey zone, making us question what’s right and what’s
fair.

And that’s the beauty of anti-heroes and grey characters — they make us
think. Feel. Question. They're flawed… just like us.

So buckle up, bookworms! We’re just getting started.

Stay curious, stay creative, and most importantly — stay tuned!
Because we’ve got more awesome character deep-dives coming up every
single day this week!
