Transformer
1. A 25 kVA transformer has 500 turns on the primary and 50 on the secondary winding. The primary
is connected to 3000 V, 50 Hz supply. Find the full load primary and secondary currents, the
secondary emf and the maximum flux in the core. Neglect leakage drop and no load current
(Consider an ideal transformer)

2. A 10 kVA, 6600/220 V, 50 Hz transformer is rated at 2.5 V/turn of the winding coils. Assume the
transformer to be ideal, calculate:
a. Step up transformation ratio
b. Step down transformation ratio
c. Total turns of the high voltage and low voltage coils
d. Primary current as a step down transformer
e. Secondary current as a step down transformer
As a step down transformer, If a load of (10+j15)Ω is connected to the secondary side,
Calculate:
f. The Current through the secondary winding
g. The Current through the primary winding
h. The Power drawn by the load.

3. For the transformer in Figure below:
Calculate :
a. the equivalent resistance Req referred to the primary side .
b. the equivalent reactance Xeq referred to the primary side .
c. the equivalent circuit referred to the primary .
d. the magnitude of the primary current .
e. the efficiency of the transformer .

4. A 150 KVA, 2400/240 V transformer has the following parameters referred to the primary side.
Req1=0.5Ω and Xeq1=1.5Ω. At full load the transformer delivers rated KVA at 0.8 lag pf and the
secondary voltage is 240V.
Calculate the voltage regulation and the efficiency assuming core losses of 600 W.

5. A 200/400V, 50Hz single-phase transformer has the no-load test data of 200V, 0.6A, 80W. Calculate
the no-load circuit resistance and reactance.

6. A 25kVA, 2200/220V, 50Hz single-phase transformer’s low voltage side is short-circuited and the
test data recorded from the high voltage side are Psc=150W, Isc=5A and Vsc=40V.
Determine the equivalent resistance, reactance and impedance referred to primary.

7. Tests are performed on a single-phase, 10 kVA, 2200/220 V, 50 Hz transformer and
the following results are obtained:
a. Derive the parameters for the approximate equivalent circuits referred to the low-voltage side the
high-voltage side.
b. Express the excitation current as a percentage of the rated current.
c. Determine the power factor for the no-load and short-circuit tests.
