Analytical List
Pages (ALP)

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 9

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
Overview

• Analytical List Page (ALP) offers a

unique way to analyse data step by
step from different perspectives, to
investigate a root cause through
drilldown, and to act on transactional
content. All this can be done
seamlessly within one page.
• The purpose of the analytical list
page is to identify interesting areas
within datasets or significant single
instances using data visualization
and business intelligence.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 10

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
Overview

• The ALP is highly customizable to ensure a very focused and localized view of the business issues. Each
user can set their own preferences and share common filter choices and layouts with other users.
• SAP provides many ready-made ALPs, but they can also be created from scratch. The standard delivered
ALPs are very well documented in the SAP Fiori Apps Reference Library with both usage and installation
details provided.
• You can locate the tile in a catalog group using the SAP Fiori Launchpad to launch the ALP.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 11

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
Header

• The page is made up of two key Click directly to filter by these values
parts:
• Header – Use the set filters for
the page
• Content – Displays a chart, a
table, or both based on the filter
values chosen in the header
• The header section is where the
filters are defined. The section can be Optionally switch header to compact view
shown as a simple field list with drop-
down lists, or as a visual filter where
you see small charts that are
clickable.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 12

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
Content

• The Content section includes charts

• The Content toolbar offers a chance to change the chart types, choose different dimensions and measures
used in the chart etc.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 13

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
Content

• In the Content section, you find a list of transactions that meet the filter criteria that you set from the filters
in the header and also from the clicks in the chart area
• Using the Settings option, you can remove or add new columns

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 14

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
When to Use

Use the analytical list page if:

• Users need to extract key information to understand the current situation or identify a root cause. The way
the data is presented is crucial for giving them the insights they need to take the right action
• Users need a way to analyze data step by step from different perspectives, investigate a root cause
through drilldown, and act on transactional content within one page
• In addition to the filtered dataset, users need to see the impact of their filter settings in a chart (visual filter)
• Users need to switch between integrated chart and table views (hybrid view)
• Users need to see the impact of their action on a global key performance indicator (KPI)
• Users need to find and act on relevant items out of a large set of items by searching, filtering, sorting,
grouping, drilling down, and slicing and dicing

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 15

End User Tools - Analytical List Pages
When Not to Use

Do not use the analytical list page if:

• Drilldown functionality is rarely used or not needed.
• Users need different visualizations for the entire dataset (for example, as a table or chart), but don’t need to
work with both visualizations on the same page (for example, in a reporting scenario). In this case, a list report
might be sufficient
• Users need to find and act on relevant items from within a large set of items by searching, filtering, sorting, and
grouping, without using drilldown or “slice and dice”. In this case, consider using a list report
• Users need to work with multiple views of the same content, for example on items that are “Open”, “In Process”,
or “Completed”. They want to be able to switch views using tabs, segmented buttons, or a select control. In this
case, consider using a list report
• Users need to see or edit a single item with all its details. Use the object page floorplan instead
• Users need to find a specific item, and the item or an identifying data point is known to the user (such as a
code). In this case, use the initial page floorplan
• Users need to work through a comparably small set of items, one by one. In this case, use the worklist floorplan
• Users have a trivial use case that does require the use of a chart, but that do not involve identifying a root cause,
analysing data, or drilldown. Instead, use a list report with a table/chart switch

Smart Business KPIs

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 17

End User Tools - Smart Business KPIs
Overview

• Smart Business KPIs are SAP Fiori tiles which display information on the tile level. They display real-time
information that is essential in the monitoring of business performance.
• SAP Provides a large number of standard pre delivered KPIs, these are already grouped into the typical
roles allowing you to start quickly.
• Cockpits can be formed by grouping multiple KPI tiles in the SAP Fiori Launchpad to provide complete
picture of performance at a glance. These can be reorganized by the user through dragging, dropping,
adding and removing.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 18

End User Tools - Smart Business KPIs
Tiles

• Tiles can be set with thresholds, meaning KPI tiles

can indicate statuses such as green or red.
• Tiles can also have mini-charts which may focus on
the most important or recent data
• KPI Tiles can be shared across multiple users
• A powerful toolkit is available to the Key User
allowing the creation of new KPI tiles.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 19

End User Tools - Smart Business KPIs
Further Analysis

• When you click a KPI tile you typically launch a detailed analysis. What happens after the
click depends on how the KPI tile has been defined. For example, you may be offered a
number of predefined drill-down views that provide deeper insight.

Custom CDS Views

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 48

Key User Tools - Custom CDS Views
Overview

• If you need access to data in your system

in a way the system does not offer so far,
you can create your own data access by
making use of a Custom Core Data
Services view (Custom CDS view)
• In SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics
there is a tool to create custom CDS
views using a simple guided process
• The views that can be created are of the
type dimension and cube only

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 49

Key User Tools - Custom CDS Views
Creation

• After selecting to create a new view, you

will be presented with a sequence of tabs
along the top of the screen to move
through the steps of view creation.
• There is an option to preview the data at
any time during the creation process, but
it must be saved as a draft view
• First step is to provide the use of the view
(data source for an analytical query or an
Odata service, dimension or cube type of
view?) and to choose one primary data
source and optional one or more
associated data sources

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 50

Key User Tools - Custom CDS Views
Creation

• If you define an optional associated data

source then you must also define the logic
that combines the sources
• A mandatory step is to select fields for the
custom view. You can also change the
names of fields to make them more
meaningful.
• Optionally, each field can be customized
by adding aggregation behaviours to the
measures and defining semantic
information so that consumption tools
know how to treat each field

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 51

Key User Tools - Custom CDS Views
Creation

• If the selected data sources include prompts, it can be defined how they are filled with optional
default values
• The final step is to optionally set filters (helpful if you want to limit the data that is exposed
through your view)

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 52

Key User Tools -
Custom Analytical Queries

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 53

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Overview

• Analytical queries are the core component in embedded

analytics. They provide focused views on real-time business data
that power many of the Embedded Analytics tools that the
business user will use. SAP provides a large number of
analytical queries for all areas of business.
• While the tool is very easy to use (no coding required), an
understanding of the Core Data Services (CDS)-based data
sources is essential. This is why the tool is usually only used by
the analytics specialist and not the business user.
• Analytical Queries are actually built using CDS views, and in fact
you could use the ABAP for Eclipse Editor to create these.
Learning the syntax of CDS is not for everyone however, so SAP
provides a simpler way to build these CDS views using the form-
based Custom Analytical Queries tool. This tool is a simplified
way to create the CDS view without coding and requires very
little learning effort

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 54

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Features

• The tool supports a number of important

features:
• Create, copy or delete queries.
• Select and arrange the fields to be
used.
• Add restricted and calculated
measures.
• Setup fixed or user input filters.
• Preview the created query.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 55

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Creation

• When launched the Custom Analytical Queries application shows the available analytical queries, the
number displayed here depends on your authorizations.
• From the landing page, you can search for existing queries or choose New to create a new query.
• All new queries will be automatically named with prefix with ZZ1_.
• Then, choose the data view for which the query is defined. The views available in the data view are the
list of Interface views released by SAP. To create the query, choose OK.
• The General tab shows the basic details of the query. You can enter a more meaningful name for the
query in the Label field.
• In the Field Selection tab the available fields from the Data View (CDS view) are shown. To add a field
from Data View into the query, mark the checkbox in the column Selection next to the field you want to
add. This field is automatically added as a display field and can be used in the filters.
• Don’t worry about the field order, the field order can later be changed in the Display tab.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 56

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Creation

• The Display tab has several functions. First of all you can rearrange the display order of the selected
fields. You can move the field up and down the list by selecting a field and using the Up and Down
buttons.
• A newly added field automatically inherits the label from the Data View field. If required, you can change
this label. You can enter a new field label name into the Override Label field.
• Selecting the Add button give you the option to add one ore more Restricted or Calculated measures.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 57

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Creation

• In the expression editor you can choose any measures from the Data View, Calculated or Restricted
Measures, and the User Input Filters defined in the query to create an expression.
• The functions supported in the expressions are listed when you select Functions button.
• You can also type in the expression using the supported fields and functions.
• The editor supports syntax highlighting and code completion, and will display error messages when the
expression is incorrect
• When you are finished using the Expression editor, the expression that you created is listed in the
expression list.

INTERNAL – SAP and Customers only 58

Key User Tools - Custom Analytical Queries
Creation

• In the Filters tab, you can define new filters. By default, the newly
added fields do not have any filters.
• Choose Fixed Values to define include and exclude filters for the
selected field. Like Restricted Measures, one or more include and
exclude filters can be defined for the dimensions. The filters take
effect on the whole query upon execution. Only those records that
match all the filters are displayed.
• You can also choose the filter to be a User Input Filter.
• The New Custom Analytical Query can then be saved and published
• Click Save Draft and Publish to publish the query.
• In the Preview mode you can test the Custom Analytical Query using
the same OLAP features that the business users would use.
• Once you have published the query it will be available for business
users to locate using their tool Query Browser. They can add tags
and include it in their Favourites, so it is easy to find.

Key Takeaways

▪ Analytical List Page (ALP) offers a unique way to analyse data step by step from different perspectives, to
investigate a root cause through drilldown, and to act on transactional content. All this can be done seamlessly
within one page.
▪ Smart Business KPIs are SAP Fiori tiles with surface content. They display real-time information that is
essential in the monitoring of business performance.
▪ SAP Fiori Analytical Applications are delivered by SAP and follow a standard floorplan design (a SAP Fiori
design standard) to provide business users with a focused application for a very particular business scenario
▪ Analysis Path Framework (APF) is a framework for creating interactive, chart-oriented analytical drilldown apps
by configuration.
▪ Review booklets present an aggregated view of business data in a specific area by combining predefined
business pages. Review booklets to display, analyze, and validate data.
▪ The View Browser is an SAP Fiori application that you use to quickly and easily search through all CDS Views
supplied by SAP and also those custom created in the customer environment.
▪ In SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics, there is a tool to create custom CDS views using a simple guided
