ABSTRACT – in bold
It consists of one (1) paragraph. A thesis and dissertation abstract is a construct of 200-250
words. It is double- space; font type is Arial; and font size is 12. It uses past tense and active voice of
verbs.
Margin is indicated below:
Margin: a. Left side – 1.5 inches
b. Right side – 1 inch
c. Top – 1 inch
d. Bottom – 1 inch
This section is limited to 150-200 words for a thesis and 200-250 words for dissertation. Observe
double spacing, and use Arial font type, size 12. Verb tense should be in the past tense. Active voice
must be implemented.
It contains one or two introductory statements, the main objective or the problem, the research
design, research instruments used, respondents or materials, sampling technique, statistical tools, major
findings, and one or two concluding sentences.
Keywords are written at the bottom part which contains the discipline, variables, research design,
and our country.
Note: For a qualitative study, it follows more or less the same instruction on the technical aspect, only
the titles or headings in each chapter are not in capital letters.

Background of the Study
This chapter must be clear and logical in describing the trends and/or problematic issues
(globally, nationally, locally) in the field, the research gap and the urgency of the study.. This chapter
should contain the parts found in Chapter 1 (See Table of Contents). This also contains a literature
particularly in the light of the chosen variables, surfacing the research-unexplored area as well as the
conflicting areas in the literature. Review of literature is thematic.
The first line of every paragraph is indented one-half inch or 5 spaces. Maintain the regular
double space throughout the manuscript. Do not use block paragraphing.
The first paragraph is a personal view about the issue, This is followed by the problematic issues
supported with statistics and literature. Discuss the importance of the dependent variable and relate the
independent variable to the dependent variable. Research gap discusses the uniqueness of the study or
its difference when compared to studies previously done. The urgency of the study discusses the
relevance of the study as well as its social value. The background of the study may have 3 to 4 pages.
Review of Related Literature – letters are in bold and not caps . The required number of
pages for thesis is at least 15, while for dissertation, at least 20 pages, with recent references. The main
variable is indented 3 spaces while the indicators are embedded in the paragraph which end with a
period. Variables and indicators are all in bold letters but not capitalized. The independent variable has
to be discussed first followed by its indicators. Next to be discussed is the dependent variable, followed
by the indicators. Articles, readings and the like are all summarized. All paragraphs have
references/authors with year. There should be a synthesis of literature, as the last paragraph in this
section.
Theoretical Framework and Conceptual Framework are in bold and discussed separately.
In the theoretical framework, the theories should reflect the connection or the relationship between
variables. Propositions will do, which are usually found from readings/ literature. The title of the theory
or the proposition has to be introduced first with its author and year and followed by how it is stated with
more discussions on it.
In the conceptual framework, the variables and the indicators have to be introduced first. These
are defined and described or discussed briefly. On the next page is the figure, it is a one page framework.
If the discussion has not been finished, this will be continued on the next page after the figure.
Note: A chapter page has an assigned page number although no number is written on it. The
page numbers of the succeeding pages must be placed on the upper right corner of the paper

This chapter must include details of your methodology. Points to be highlighted include the
description of the following; research design, research locale, research respondents/participants, and
sampling design, research instruments, data gathering procedure / data collection, statistical tools, data
analysis, ethical consideration, and other parts found in this chapter (See table of Contents). These are
in bold letters. All these sections are in paragraph form. The research design in a quantitative study
must comprise 2 pages discussion while for a qualitative study , it comprises 3 pages discussion. A
printed copy of the adopted questionnaire has to be presented during the proposal defense.

Final - Past tense
The research locale which shows the map should be on a separate sheet.

For your Findings, Conclusions, and Recommendations, write a one sentence introduction after
each heading in a past tense form.
Make your statements clear, direct and brief. Maintain the margin and the double spacing.
Findings (includes quantitative values, their magnitudes, descriptions, and interpretations or implications)
Conclusions (general statements as answers per problem of the study)
Recommendations (state the future directions of the study per problem of the study)
