Project Specification Guidelines
Introduction
This is a research-based project. The aim of the project is to enable students to conduct a research on
new topics in computing issues. Your research should involve a wide range of area, students are
encouraged to explore any area of their interest. This also helps students to grab a better understanding
of their interest to train themselves on conducting an academic research.
The expected outcome of this project will be a good knowledge and research skills gained. The
research will be conducted as a group project. On top of it, students are expected to conduct a
presentation during the weeks (13-14) to share the findings with classmates and also to facilitate
discussion on the topic that the group is researching on. Hopefully, this will be a better way to impart
knowledge to small groups (TWO STUDENTS) – your classmates.
Project Information
In this project, you must pick a research problem and work on it. You can also pick a research problem
from some other area (your area!) with Databases, Cloud Computing or Cybersecurity twist.
Successful projects could lead to publishable results. Obviously, publishing is not a requirement, but
this is the mindset that you should have.
Project Ideas
You have to form your team and come up with a project idea on Sunday 5th April 2020. I strongly
encourage you to come up with your own project ideas. You may choose some open question from
the topics in 11.
Instructions
1. Each team should not exceed two students.
2. References for your research should be as follows and up to date (means not more than 5 years
old):
a) Conference papers in the related area (conference papers means: papers that are published in
international conferences).
b) Journal paper (means: papers that are published in international journals). You can search
University’s Digital Library or other library in the net.
c) Books
d) A combination of the previous.
3. Any other resources other than the resources mentioned in 2 are not acceptable (like: internet
links). These include general articles in the Internet, magazine or books. However you can use
the materials (general articles from Internet) to enhance your understanding and provide you some
idea and knowledge on the chosen area/ issue.
4. You should have at least six (6) references from the resources mentioned in 2.
1
5. The due date for submitting your research is week 13.
6. Your research paper can be state of art research paper, comparison, or a new vision that you may
create in your field.
7. Your research paper should include:
Title
Abstract
Introduction
Body of the research (the different issues that you need to discuss)
Conclusion
References
Appendix (a copy of the references should be attached)
8. All topics must be unique among all the class members. I shall register the topics of interest on
first come first serve basis. If you have confirmed a topic, let me know and book your topic as
soon as possible.
9. The research paper should be less than 10 pages of double space, 12 point, times new roman font
in Microsoft word.
10. At a completion of the research you should submit:
a) Hardcopy (normal binding). Your project (names and ID number should be in the first page)
b) Softcopy: Your project, the references, and PowerPoint slides of your presentation
11. Topic chosen can be any topics in DB or Cybersecurity areas. Do a quick search on the Internet
to check the possible area that you want to investigate further. The following are some suggested
area where all of them are hot topics in both industry and academia:
a. Cybersecurity Algorithms (Comparison)
b. Data Science (Algorithms, Security, Applications, or Tools)
c. Big data and analytical data platforms
d. Cloud data stores
e. Concurrency control in mobile databases or object-oriented databases
f. Enforcing and Integrity constraints in: relational databases, object-oriented databases, and
mobile databases,
g. Entity framework resources
h. NewSQL databases,
i. NoSQL data stores
j. Object-relational bindings
k. Object-relational impedance mismatch
l. Object-relational mapping technology
m. Scalable cloud platforms
n. Serializbility in different databases
o. Service platforms
p. Type of transactions and transaction managements in mobile database
Good Luck
