(Setting: Mary’s home in Nazareth. Mary is sitting by a window, sewing.
The angel Gabriel
appears in a radiant light.)
Narrator: Long ago, in the town of Nazareth, a young woman named Mary was chosen for a
divine purpose.
Gabriel: Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.
Mary: (startled) Who are you?
Gabriel: Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. You will conceive and
give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of
the Most High. His kingdom will never end.
Mary: (hesitant but faithful) How will this be, since I am a virgin?
Gabriel: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow
you. Therefore, the child to be born will be holy, the Son of God.
Mary: (humbly) I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.
(Gabriel departs. Mary looks both overwhelmed and hopeful.)
Scene 2: The Journey to Bethlehem
(Setting: A dusty road. Mary, now heavily pregnant, is riding a donkey. Joseph walks beside her,
leading the way.)
Narrator: At that time, Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the
entire Roman world. So Joseph went up from Nazareth to Bethlehem, the town of David,
because he belonged to the house and line of David. He took Mary with him, who was expecting
a child.
Mary: (weary) Joseph, are we nearly there?
Joseph: (comforting) Soon, Mary. Just a little further. We’ll find a place to rest.
(They approach Bethlehem, bustling with people. Joseph knocks on the door of an inn.)
Innkeeper: (gruffly) No room here. The town is full.
Joseph: Please, my wife is about to have a baby. Is there anywhere we can stay?
Innkeeper: (softening) There’s a stable in the back. It’s not much, but it’s warm.
Joseph: Thank you. God bless you.
Scene 3: The Birth of Jesus
(Setting: A humble stable. Animals are gathered around. Mary and Joseph are beside a manger
filled with hay. Mary holds the newborn Jesus in her arms.)
Narrator: And so it was that while they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. Mary
wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the
inn.
(A soft glow surrounds the manger. Mary gazes lovingly at Jesus.)
Mary: Welcome, my child. You are the Light of the World.
Scene 4: The Shepherds and the Angels
(Setting: A field outside Bethlehem. Shepherds are watching their flocks. Suddenly, an angel
appears, and the glory of the Lord shines around them.)
Narrator: Nearby, shepherds were keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the
Lord appeared to them, and they were terrified.
Angel: Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. You will
find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
(A host of angels appears, singing.)
Angels: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.
(The shepherds exchange amazed looks.)
Shepherd 1: Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told
us about.
Scene 5: The Visit of the Shepherds
(Setting: The stable. Mary and Joseph are with Jesus. The shepherds enter reverently.)
Narrator: The shepherds hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying
in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word about what they had been told
about this child.
Shepherd 2: We have seen angels! They told us about your baby—the Savior of the world!
Mary: (smiling) Thank you for coming. The Lord has blessed us all.
(The shepherds kneel before the manger in awe. A soft glow fills the stable.)
Scene 6: The Wise Men’s Journey
(Setting: A desert landscape. Three wise men on camels follow a bright star in the sky.)
Narrator: After Jesus was born, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is
the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to
worship him.”
(The wise men arrive at the stable, bearing gifts.)
Wise Man 1: We bring gold, for the King of Kings.
Wise Man 2: Frankincense, for the Son of God.
Wise Man 3: Myrrh, for the Savior who will sacrifice all for us.
(They place their gifts before Jesus and bow in worship.)
Closing Scene
(Setting: The stable, bathed in warm light. Mary and Joseph look at Jesus, surrounded by
shepherds and wise men.)
Narrator: And so, the prophecy was fulfilled. The Savior had come into the world, bringing
hope, peace, and love to all. Let us rejoice in the gift of Jesus, the light of the world.
