Unit I
Fundamentals of Electrical Aspects of HVAC : Introduction, electrical injuries, grounding, circuit
protection, circuit lockout, electric power and energy, Ohm’s law, basic concepts of electric circuits,
electric meters, components, symbols and circuitry of air-conditioning wiring diagrams
Unit II
Electrical Systems of HVAC : Codes and standards, alternating current, power distribution, 240-
volt-single-phase-60-hertz systems, three-phase voltage systems, 240-volt-three-phase-60-hertz
delta system, higher-voltage systems, types of electric motors, shaded pole-motors, capacitors,
three-phase motors
Unit III
Installation of Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration Systems : Sizing wire, disconnect switches,
fusible load centers, breaker panels, distribution centers, installing electrical circuits for refrigeration,
heating, and air-conditioning equipment, contactor, relays, overloads, magnetic starter, push-button
stations, transformers, thermostats, pressure switches
Unit IV
Heating Control Devices : Heating fundamentals, basic heating controls, gas heating controls, oil
heating controls, electric heating controls, hydronic and steam controls
Unit V
Designing of Residential Air-Conditioning Control Systems : Residential air-conditioning
equipment, basic residential control circuitry, packaged air-conditioning control systems, split-system
air-conditioning control systems, heat pump control systems, heat pump sequence of operation, field
wiring
Unit VI
Designing of Commercial and Industrial Air-Conditioning Control Systems : Commercial and
industrial heating and air-Conditioning equipment, variable air volume systems, variable refrigerant
flow systems, commercial and industrial air-conditioning control circuitry, commercial condensing unit,
commercial and industrial packaged units, air-cooled packaged unit with remote condenser, water-
cooled packaged units, types of total commercial and industrial controls systems, pneumatic control
systems, electronic control systems
