Triangles in Mathematics

A triangle is a three-sided polygon with various types classified by sides (equilateral, isosceles, scalene) and angles (acute, right, obtuse). Key properties include the sum of interior angles being 180° and the area calculated using base and height or Heron's formula. The document also covers the Pythagorean theorem, perimeter calculation, and the triangle inequality theorem.

Triangles in Mathematics

1. Definition of Triangle:

A triangle is a three-sided polygon. It has three sides, three angles, and three vertices.

2. Types of Triangles (by sides):

- Equilateral Triangle: All sides are equal.

- Isosceles Triangle: Two sides are equal.

- Scalene Triangle: All sides are different.

3. Types of Triangles (by angles):

- Acute Triangle: All angles are less than 90°.

- Right Triangle: One angle is exactly 90°.

- Obtuse Triangle: One angle is more than 90°.

4. Important Properties:

- The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is always 180°.

- The exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the two opposite interior angles.

5. Area of Triangle:

- For base and height: Area = 1/2 × base × height

- Heron's Formula (for sides a, b, c):

s = (a + b + c)/2

Area = sqrt[s(s - a)(s - b)(s - c)]

6. Pythagoras Theorem (Right Triangle):

In a right-angled triangle: Hypotenuse² = Base² + Height²

7. Perimeter of Triangle:

Perimeter = sum of all three sides = a + b + c

8. Triangle Inequality Theorem:

The sum of any two sides of a triangle is always greater than the third side.
