IMAGE PROCESSING AND MULTIMEDIA

 People use various ways to communication and convey
 Multimedia is a form of communication that combines different content forms such
as text, audio, image, animation or video into a single interactive presentation
 The use of multimedia to communicate ideas
 Begins with newspapers
 Followed radio and television
IMAGE
 An image is a physical likeness or representation of a person, an animal or a thing,
photographed, painted, sculptured or otherwise made visible
 Examples of image are:
 A painting of something (painting of a flower)
 A picture that has been created or copied and stored in electronic form
 A picture taken with a camera
 A scanned picture through image scanner
DIGITAL IMAGE
 Is a representation of an image or picture in digital form
 Consisting of binary digits (bits) that encode the image's visual information.
 Each pixel in a digital image corresponds to a tiny element of the overall picture
 Digital images can be created through various means
 Such as capturing a photo with a digital camera or scanning a physical image into a
digital format.
 The manipulation of digital images through techniques like digital image processing
DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING
 Involves using computational techniques to analyze, enhance, compress, and reconstruct
images.
 By manipulating digital images through computer software
 Improve image quality and enhance pictorial information for better human perception.
 The process typically begins
 With importing images captured by devices.
• Like scanners or digital cameras.
 Then Analysis and manipulation of the images software applications
 final output displayed on devices
 Like printers or monitors.
 This field plays a crucial role in various applications
 Including healthcare, agriculture, remote sensing, and quality control.

SOME COMMON APPLICATIONS INCLUDE

 Medical Imaging:
 Used for analyzing and interpreting medical images such as X-rays, CT scans, and
MRIs
 Satellite Image Processing:
 Utilized for analyzing satellite images to monitor land use, crop health, urban growth,
and environmental changes
 Forensic Analysis:
 Helps in analyzing and enhancing images for forensic investigations, including
fingerprint analysis and facial recognition.
Exercise
1. How digital images are typically captured for processing?
A. Using a scanner or digital camera B. Through manual drawing
C. Using a typewriter D. By recording audio signal

MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION PLANNING STRATEGIES
Multimedia is the field concerned with the use of a computer to present, store, transmit and
combine text, graphics, audio and video with links and tools that let the user navigate, interact,
create and communicate.

 Before producing multimedia product, whether it is animation, film, movie or book, we

should use a planning strategy such as
o storyboard
o Which clearly expresses how the story will flow in multimedia product.
Storyboard is refers to the process of creating a sequence of screens to provide an overview of the
project, demonstrate the arrangement and functionality of the program elements

 Is a graphic layout that sequences illustrations and images with the purpose of telling a story
visually.
o Film makers and video creators use storyboards to transfer ideas from their mind to
the screen
o Creating an effective storyboard requires skill
Multimedia storyboard can include elements of video, sketch, text, audio, photos and even physical
prototypes used for the purpose of pre-visualization.
Pre-visualization is a crucial step in the creative process, especially in fields like film and
architecture. It helps to plan and envision the final product before the actual production begins,
saving time and resources.
Image Processing Software
Image processing software is the software that is designed to organize, retouch and edit images that
have been saved on CDs and DVDs, and scanned in or transferred directly from the camera to PC.

 Image processing software can be commercial and free.

Some of the useful image processing application software
Are Photoshop, Ms-paint, Gimp, Paint 3D, Photo styler, Photo editor and photo explosion

 Photoshop is a general-purpose application designed to work on any raster based (made up

of dots or pixels) image and perform any number of included manipulations.
•It is one of the most popular image processing software packages available today
•The software provides many image editing features for raster (pixel-based) images as well as vector
graphics.
•Used by photographers, graphic designers, video game artists, advertising and meme designers.
Adobe Photoshop Used for
•Create website layouts and attractive graphic designs
•Image editing and graphic design
Exercise 2
1. Why is pre-visualization considered a crucial step in the creative process for fields like film and
architecture?
