AG WORLD WIDE & GHANA HISTORY
The Assemblies of God (AG), officially the World Assemblies of God Fellowship
(1988), is a group of national Christian denominations which together form the
world's largest Pentecostal body.
With over 300,000 congregations and outstations in over 212 countries
With 70million worldwide membership
18million in Africa
It is the fourth largest international body of Christians.
• The Assemblies originated from the Pentecostal revival of the early 20th
century.
• This Azuza Street Revival led to the founding of the Assemblies of God in
the United States in 1914.
• AG was established in Ghana in 1931
• This Azuza revival is generally traced to a prayer meeting held under the
leadership of Charles Parham, at Bethel Bible College in Topeka, Kansas, on
January 1, 1901.
• However the founding fathers of AG include:
• E.N Bell
• Howard Gross
• Daniel Opperman
• Archibald Collins
The 1st AG church in Ghana was planted at Yendi, 1931. It came down to Kumasi
and Accra in 1944 and later to Tarkoradi in 1945.
• It was established by Missionaries from USA – Rev Lloyd and Margaret
Shirer

Ghana was known as the ‘Ambassador’
• The Assemblies of God, North Kaneshie was started in 1972 by Rev Pedro
De Pax Barbosa, a missionary from Sao Paulo Brazil.
• North Kaneshie AG was established after Evangel Assemblies of God and
the New Town Assemblies of God, which were established by American
missionaries.
Rev Dontoh, 53, who died on September 5, 2009, after 28 years in Ministry,
was buried at the Osu Cemetery on October 10, 2009.
• The last American Missionary who served as GS in Ghana was Rev Harold
Lehman
• In 1970, Rev Elijah Nyamela Panka took over as the 1st indigenous GS

Protestant
• The Assemblies of God is a Protestant fellowship.
• We believe each person may commune directly with God based on Jesus'
death on the cross.
• This provides a personal and meaningful relationship with Him.
Trinitarian
• Like most Christian groups the Assemblies of God believes God exists in
three persons - the Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit.
• We believe all three are alive and at work today.
• We also believe this God of three persons is the one and only true God
(Matthew 28:9; Luke 3:22; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Evangelical
• The church is distinguished as such because it places high priority on the
inspiration of Scripture and its mission to bring the lost to a saving knowledge and
relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pentecostal
• The most definitive identification of the Assemblies of God is Pentecostal.
• Just as it was founded in 1914, the Fellowship remains a full gospel church -
one where the fullness of the Holy Spirit is welcomed, nurtured, and taught.

THE TRANSFORMATIONAL AGENDA (Micah 4:1-2)
The current leadership are looking at six (6) thematic areas, under the overarching
umbrella of the Transformational Agenda, summarized as follows:
REACH: Aggressively reach every community and plant churches in every town
and village with greater passion and excellence. Engage all internal and external
stakeholders to fulfill our core mandate and impact the socioeconomic
development of our country.
REBUILD: Significantly improve Pastors’ welfare, engage in massive human capital
and infrastructural development.
10
Ag youth brains 2023 for ablekuma-gbawe district youth ministry
RESTORE: Restore the Pentecostal fervor; seek the Azusa and early church revival
etc.
REFORM: Embark on administrative reforms and restructuring of the
Organization
REPOSITION: Make A/G the leading Pentecostal-charismatic church in Ghana
REBRAND: Enhance our image making us more visible and appealing to attract
new members.
Still under the transformation agenda we are majoring on three key areas;
1. Shift to more encompassing ways of spreading the revival
2. Grow in its leadership position of delivering life changing, Pentecostal-
themed gospel to the world.
3. Transform into a relevant entity that seeks the development of its
members, the body of Christ and effectively, the nation.
