STUDENT DRESS AND GROOMING CODE
The Box Elder School District Board of Education requires all of its students to conform to standard that
avoid extremes which tend to draw undue attention and supports the position that parents should
oversee the appearance of their children.
Failure to follow the dress code will result in the following consequences.
First Offense
The student will be issued a warning and asked to change to appropriate dress.
Second Offense
The student will be asked to change to appropriate dress and student conference with administration
Third Offense
The student will be sent home and parental meeting will be arranged.
Fourth Offense
The student will be suspended from school and student/administration contract written.
NOTE: Any deviation to this policy for special activities shall be approved in advance by the principal.
1. All outer clothing worn by students must be neat and clean. Minimum length for shorts, skirts, and
dresses are expected to be no more then four inches above the knees and in good taste and not
embarrassing or distracting to others and the learning environment.
2. Tank tops, bandanas of any color or design, see-through clothing, excessively low necks, abbreviated
clothing, and underclothing showing are considered unacceptable (no bare midsections or bare
backs).
3. Appropriate footwear will be required at all times. Shoes with metal or rubber cleats or other hardware
(including roller shoes) that may be damaging to the floor will not be allowed. Appropriate footwear
must be worn to meet the health and safety standards requirement of the State of Utah. No bare feet
are allowed at any time.
4. Makeup should be worn to conform to good grooming rules. Students who can and choose to grow
facial hair may do so, provided that it is clean, well groomed, and in good taste. Advisors or coaches
of any organization or team that represents BRHS (student council, choir, athletic teams, etc.) may
dictate standards for or even forbid the wearing of facial hair. It is expected that these coaches and
advisors will be the principal enforcers of their own policy.
5. Any clothing which refers to, promotes, or insinuates any of the following is unacceptable: 1) drugs; 2)
alcohol; 3) tobacco in any form, 4) pornography, or inappropriate language, 5) gangs or cults. Any
apparel, jewelry, chains, belts that hang to the knees, bandanas, accessory or manner of grooming
which by virtue of its color, arrangement, trademark, or any other attribute denotes membership in a
group or gang that advocates drug use or exhibits behaviors that interfere with the normal and orderly
operation of the school is prohibited. Chains are inappropriate and prohibited. The administration
reserves the right to ban any fad clothing that they deem inappropriate.
6. Athletic PE clothing will not be worn outside of PE classes. All PE classes will require a white shirt
and red shorts.
