Excel 2013 Problem Solving
1. PREAMBLE.
2. USE OF SPREADSHEET.
1. Observe the structure of the windows of the Excel application and then: open all the menus (bar
multifunction), identify the meaning of all the buttons (and note them on a sheet of paper
deliver), write and edit formulas and data in a cell of the sheet through the bar
of formulas, move from one sheet to another.
5. EXAMPLES.
1. Sum the two numbers contained in cells A1 and A2 and bring the result in
cell A3.
2. Family budget: for this example, the following formulas are required: + to add; - to
subtraction; =sum(list of values) to sum a list of values. The execution
the example should clarify very well the concepts of absolute addressing ($) and of
relative addressing: indeed the formulas of columns C and D should be obtained from
column Bthrough copy; furthermore, it is necessary to introduce the fixed expense and the related addresses
absolute in a second time (i.e., after having shown the entire balance for three months without
fixed expense). It is requested to obtain a table like the following where instead of the points of
questions must be written appropriately using formulas:
A B C D
1 BALANCE

21. Print (and deliver) results and formulas of the family budget.
22. In the family budget, change the format of the cells by assigning the currency format to all.
the cells that contain amounts; put borders (appropriately) around the template
of the family budget; change the reason and/or the background color.
23. Print (and deliver) results and formulas of the household budget.
24. Appropriately rename the sheet containing the household budget.
25. Perform a spell check of the template.
26. Use the "Control" voice to see the relationships between the data in the formulas schematized.
family budget.
1. Create a folder called Functions in which to place all the subsequent exercises.
2. Write formulas to obtain the integer part of a value and to obtain the rounding of
a value (with 2 decimal places, with 1 decimal place, as an integer, to the tens, to the hundreds).

the row and column index outputs (at every moment) the value of the table that you
find at the intersection of the specified row and column.
10. Print results and formulas of the previous exercises.
11. Write a list composed of DATE and BALANCE: write formulas to calculate (given a
interest rate) the interest accrued between the first and last date in the list.
12. Print results and formulas from the previous exercises.
13. Write a list containing ZIP codes and CITIES and write a formula that, given a ZIP code
produce the output name of the corresponding city (and an appropriate indication if the
CAP does not exist.
14. Write a table containing a list where the first column has the lower limit.

18. Build a formula that generates a new number output every time the sheet recalculates.
random.
19. Print results and formulas from the previous exercises.
20. Write, in a column, a list of words. Write a formula that constructs a new
word formed by concatenating the portion of each of the words in the list that is obtained from
starting from a certain character whose position is given and for a length equal to the
length of a sample word provided as input. For example, if the list is made up of
from the words: butterfly, mountain and storm and if the starting character is 4 and if the word
the champion is XX the result must be made.
21. Write a sentence in one cell, a string of the sentence in another, and another string again.
in another cell. Build a formula that replaces the first string in the sentence with the
second (on every occurrence).
22. Print results and formulas from the previous exercises.
23. Write a table that shows, for a series of values starting from a given value and
according to a certain interval always provided, the tabulation of the exponential functions and
logarithm.
24. Load two 3x3 matrices of numbers and write formulas to calculate: the determinant of
first matrix, the inverse matrix of the first matrix, the product of rows by columns of
two matrices, the transpose matrix of the first matrix.
25. Given two column vectors of values, write a formula for the dot product of the two.
26. Print results and formulas from the previous exercises.
27. Given a series of values (not necessarily distinct), write formulas to produce
as follows: the maximum value and the minimum value, the median, the mode (i.e. the most common value)
recurring) of the area.
28. Print results and formulas from the previous exercises.

4. Add (if not present) the title of the chart and the axes.
5. Try changing the chart type to one that is reasonable for the input data.
6. Try to add and remove the grids.
7. Print results, graph and formulas from the previous exercises.
8. In the area A1:K11, write the multiplication table for the numbers from 1 to 10 appropriately.
The first row and the first column are headers containing the numbers from 1 to 10. In each
another cell contains the product of the row header and the column header. Yes
appropriately build a graph for the data.

15. Print results, graphs, and formulas from the previous exercises.
10. THE DATABASE FUNCTION OF EXCEL.
1. We set up a archive with 3 fields that we call CA, CB, CC. The
field CA will contain a registry, field CB a number (we can think that it is
the amount owed by a customer) and the CC field will contain a type (we can imagine that
it is the type of customer). Let's put this information in the first three columns of the sheet
electronic: the first line must always contain the field names. Therefore, we will have the
the following situation in the first three columns (A, B, C) of the spreadsheet:
1 CA CB CC
2 aaaaa 150 pieces
3 abaaa 219 tb
4 acaaa 230 tc
5 aaaaa 70
6 aaaaa 280 tb
7 abcde 12 pieces
8 ttttaaa 33 pieces
9 tttt 66 tc
10 tttt 89 tc
Considering the data from the exercise of paragraph 10.1.1, carry out the following exercises:
Create an automatic filter on the data.
2. Remove the automatic filter option.
3. Create an automatic filter on the data again.
4. Filtering the data: select the desired value in one or more of the combo boxes associated with the names of
field to impose the filter condition(s). Restore the display of all rows
hidden by the currently active filters.
1. Consider a list of first names and last names loaded respectively in columns B and A of
electronic sheet (starting from row 1). In column C, the date of birth should be indicated. We
let's consider the problem of sorting this data by personal details (with the same surname)
The arrangement should be done by name). We can have the following situation:
A B C
dddd aaaa 22/07/73
eeee mmmm 23/07/75
eeee aaaa January 24, 1966
aaaa zzzz 02/03/34
aaaa bbbb April 3, 1972
aaaa aaaa 05/06/75
mmmm cccc 07/07/89
bbbb bbbb 03/03/82
1. With reference to the list in paragraph 10.1.1, call up the command that shows a
dialog box containing a form that allows viewing, inserting,
modify and delete data of each single line (record) of the database.
1. With reference to the list in paragraph 10.2, add a header row and
add a column of amounts and, once the area containing the list is selected, recall the
command to get Subtotals. Use the combo box "On each change in" to
choose field (A) from the list whose changes determine the groupings based on
to determine the subtotals (a grand total will also be added later). Check the box
import in 'Add subtotals to'. Confirm the choices.
1. Write the data from the three columns of the exercise in paragraph 10.2 into a single column (A)
separating the data of each field with 4 spaces. Consider the previous text that is located in
a single column and split it into multiple columns. Typically, the division will be carried out
automatically based on the fixed size (in characters) that you want to give to the
column. The separation is guided by a series of dialog boxes.
1. Consider 3 sheets from the same folder. On each, write a table of 4 rows.
zone 1,2,3,4) and 3 columns (agents A,B,C) where the sales amounts are placed. Each
the sheet relates to a month. Use the consolidation function to produce the situation
overall of the three months.
1. Use the data extraction function to load the content into a spreadsheet.
table Category of the Access 2013 database named Northwind (it's among the examples -
samples).
2. Once the previous procedure has been completed, modify some descriptions of the
tableCategories(then be careful to restore the original values) and hence cause
the data update in the spreadsheet.
10.9 The Pivot Table.
1. Consider the following data table to be loaded into a section of a spreadsheet (the
the table contains a list of quantities sold by different agents in different areas in
determined periods):
PROGRAMAGENT ZONE
1a X 1 100
2b Z 2 1150
3b Y 1 150
4c Z 1 200
5d Z 2 250
6a Y 2 300
7b X 2 350
8c X 3 400
9d Y 3 450
10 a Z 3 500
11b Z 1 550
12 c Y 1 600
13 days Z 3 850
14 d X 1 650
15 a X 2 700
16 a X 1 750
17 c Z 2 800
18 b Y 1 1300
19 b X 3 950
20 degrees Celsius X 1 1000
21 d Y 1 1050
22 a Z 1 1100
23 a Y 3 900
24 b Y 1 1200
25 b Y 1 1250
2. Build a pivot table by grouping the previous data by agent and on equal terms.
agent per zone on the rows, based on the period on the columns, to obtain as data the
sum of the quantities sold.
3. Modify the original data and update the Pivot table.
4. For the zonadati field (sum of quantities) specify to perform calculations
customized: calculate a discrepancy or a percentage discrepancy of the element
current compared to the corresponding value of the previous grouping.
1. Agreeing not to be able to perform insertions (in multiple work sessions) and cancellations
Through Access forms, it is possible to use them to manage the list of data referred to.
paragraph10.1.1o10.2o10.9. Produce a printout of the mask page
Access generated.
10.11 Access Reports.
1. Create an Access report to print the data of the list referred to in paragraph 10.1.1 or 10.2.
10.9.NB The addition of lines at the bottom causes problems (as well as removal from
coda).
Premise: in order to carry out the exercise, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the structure of the
Excel addresses even in the presence of external documents. The general structure is as follows:
‘DirectoryPath[FolderName.XLSM]SheetName’!LocalAddress
'C:\AB\[PROVA.XLSM]Sheet1'!$A$1.
An alternative within the same folder is the following:
SheetName!LocalAddress
and example: Sheet1!A1.
